I logged on to my system today and all of sudden.I am no longer the administrator of my computer...the RUN command has dissappeared, I can't edit the registry, and I can't access the task manager.I've come across some other solutions to fix my the registry and task manager but I can't fix those until I can access the 'RUN command' to execute these other methods.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI turned on my computer and found out that my regular user cant access task manager/run or turn off the computer. i am the only user on this computer and there is no network. the user is listed as administrator and i can change/create/delete other users which i tried. i created an admin user and that guy could do everything except access other user files. i looked into Administrators group and both were listed. when i do ctrl+alt+del it says Task manager has been disabled by computer administrator. but there's no administrator. there's a win98 computer that's connected to this one. but it's only used for internet by people who call a browser the internet every time my computer boots up it goes to a bios where date and time are change to weird numbers every time
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a buddy that cannot start his computer because he has a corrupte system32 registry file. i have fixed this problem before on computers but i cant do this one. when i insert the xp cd and go to the recovery console i can not proceed with typing in the commands. usually when you go to the recovery console it asks for the administrator password, but when i do this to his computer it doesnt ask for it. it just goes to the c:> command line. then i try to type md tmp command and it says access denied..

When I restarted my computer it went to my log on user menu, I hit the administrator one, then my screen went to black, all black except it says safe mode in the four corners and it says:

I'm sure this is a simple question but I can't figure out the answer. I'm running XP yet my start button and the taskbar aren't blue, the standard XP color, they're now looking like they did in Win 98. How do I fix this? Also I can't access the task manager either by control alt del or by right clicking the task bar and selecting task manager there. I've searched on this and found a number of different methods to supposedly fix this but haven't been successful so far.

When I reopened it, the changes hadn't stuck. Is this a peculiarity of the program i.e., it has some way of preventing changes to its features or have I failed in some way to save registry edits before exiting?

However problem with that server, means that the admin kit is no longer running.I cannot update kaspersky manually as it says it is controlled by administrator, and there is no update section of the settings, for me to change where the server looks for its updates.Think it maybe something that can be changed in the registry editor, however when i attempt to change the value, i get a 'Error writing the values new contents'The correct permissions have been set, but still not working.

A friend of mine has a 4 yr. old PC running XP Home with 128Mb of memory. He's had problems with programs aborting recently. I tried to run Device Manager to make sure there were no issues there. It briefly brought the screen up, then it went away. The same thing happened to Task Manager when I tried to see what was running and how much memory was being used. Anybody ever see this behavior before? I might try installing a memory cleaner pgm (ie. Memturbo), but I'm not sure I would even be able to get it to run. The hard drive amd memory seem to have no errors.

The mouse pointer remains active but i cannot click on anything succesfully. The task bar and task manager do not respond at all, i can open files saved on my desktop but cannot do anything when they're open and cannot close them again. I reset my PC a number of times but this did not solve the problem. I assume this is a virus or spyware problem but could it possibly be anything else?

Eventually I reset and the computer would not boot. I opened the case, removed the video card and was able to boot to XP Pro SP2. I had left the computer on overnight to render/burn a DVD with Sony Vegas.Once I got to the desktop, I found that networking was no longer functioning. None of my network connections appeared under "Network Connections". My onboard LAN (Realtek RTL8100) was no longer appearing in my device manager nor is my modem (not that I ever use it) or my firewire card. I don't know what else might be missing.I have a MSI MS-6533 Mainboard w/ Intel P4-1.6 GHz (Bought as barebones system).
View 6 Replies View RelatedThere are a few things that contributed to the leadup to me losing my Device Manager and sound. First, about 3 weeks ago, I bought 2 sticks of Mushkin EM3200 DDR RAM (two 1GB sticks; 2GB total). Installed it, and it disagreed with my board in a big way (apparently it was the voltages or timings). I managed to get as far as "Verifying DMI Pool Data..." before I got one of two error messages: "NTLDR is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart." or "Windows failed to load because the System32 folder is corrupt or missing." In each case, I popped in my Windows XP disc and fixed the boot record from the recovery console (I did not restore the MBR), and it booted right in.
At the time, Windows booted up just fine, but lately I've been having some funky problems. I've got one SATA drive (partitioned into two) which is my boot drive and one IDE drive that I just use for storage. Sometimes, with my IDE drive plugged in on boot, I can't get Windows to load by any means. Sometimes it boots just fine. When it boots fine, and I go into "My Computer" (either via the Start Menu or the icon on the desktop) it takes about 20-30 seconds to actually display anything (I get either the flashlight-over-folder animation or it just doesn't load). With my IDE drive unplugged, I get no such issues.
As well, the first couple of times I restored the boot record, I had no issues with sound at all. Then suddenly Windows started saying I had no sound device (my volume icon had disappeared, and the "Sounds and Audio Devices" menu in the Control Panel showed no output/playback device) although I clearly do have one. The weird thing is, I still got sound. Then I updated my sound card drivers (it's onboard sound; Realtek AC'97, pretty standard fare) and lost sound completely. All I get now is motherboard/PC speaker beeps. So I attempted to check the Device Manager to see if maybe there was just a device conflict. I say attempted because my Device Manager was completely blank. And I mean completely. All it showed was the title bar, menu buttons, and a white page. Nothing else. Zip.Just ran out to work and got an Audigy for $30 thinking it may just have been my onboard sound kicking the bucket. Installed it, booted up and tried to install the drivers. The driver installation program detected no Audigy in my machine (and I thought it wouldn't because Windows didn't pop up with the little "Found New Hardware Wizard" when I booted).

View 7 Replies View RelatedSolved the problem by reinstalling windows totally, off the 7 disks I have. Anyway, just want to vent it out. Could not figure out why when I turned on my computer it told me that the registry was corrupt, missing, or whatever? Would not start no how. Did the f2 thing or was it the F8 thing, don't remember. Anyway got the start in safe mode, go to last good fig. restart in dos mode, restart windows, etc. Most of the time, got the windows logo, the green/blue lines going across, took quite a while, then the screen said the above message. Had nothing new installed except Windows updates. Thought computer was fried. Even tried just installing/recovery but to no avail. Finally did the complete install. Thank god I also have the sp2 disk or else it would of taken forever to download. Just don't understand why, it worked fine for 2 days after the downloads from microsoft.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI opened windows explorer and I think it was taking up so much memory that it froze-I had to wait a while for it to work properly,and then it was really slow(even for my slow pc,I had windows live messenger and itunes' windows open and they just disappeared from the taskbar,and I had to right click on their icons in the right corner(is that the notification area-I forgot),and when they reappeared on the taskbar I had to right click on them,and they would only open when I clicked maximize. It took me a while to open some things in windows explorer too
