After a new install I have 2 traits different from the way they have been for about 5 years and I would like to change them to what I am familar with.But afer googling,I am still lost , This one I think need a new registry value added and I never did that I have changed values but never added a whole new value. So if you can help me take it slow.I would like to remove the my recent documents on the start menu using the classic style.I have found several D value names to add and I would like the correct one.
I followed instructions to edit the registry for a program (Foxit PDF Reader), changing 0's to 1's to disable a certain feature, then exiting from regedit. When I reopened it, the changes hadn't stuck. Is this a peculiarity of the program i.e., it has some way of preventing changes to its features or have I failed in some way to save registry edits before exiting?
I have kaspersky anti virus installed on a windows 2000 server, it used to update from the administration kit. However problem with that server, means that the admin kit is no longer running.I cannot update kaspersky manually as it says it is controlled by administrator, and there is no update section of the settings, for me to change where the server looks for its updates.Think it maybe something that can be changed in the registry editor, however when i attempt to change the value, i get a 'Error writing the values new contents'The correct permissions have been set, but still not working.
I have a Windows XP Pro, SP2 customer. We are attempting to modify the registry key for the "Everyoneincludesanonymous" from a value of 0 to 1. When he selects "OK" he gets a message that says he cannot change this value. In fact he cant change any registry data and he is the admin.
I logged on to my system today and all of sudden.I am no longer the administrator of my computer...the RUN command has dissappeared, I can't edit the registry, and I can't access the task manager.I've come across some other solutions to fix my the registry and task manager but I can't fix those until I can access the 'RUN command' to execute these other methods.
For years whenever I would insert my card into the slot, a screen would automatically come up asking me what I want to do with these files - which is how I set it up (to prompt me everytime). Well, one day, about 2 months ago, all that stopped.So, besides changing the preferences/settings for the device (multiple times) I reinstalled the drivers, updated the drivers, rolled back driver(s), etc. (not in that order), and contacted Sony support - which was a waste of time.Of course Sony Support (or anyone's answer when they do not know how to correct a computer related problem) said I should restore my computer to a earlier time. Unfortunately, this is not an option for me since I have never once been able to use that feature on my computer and I don't know why, nor do I care at this point because all I want to do right now is simply fix the problem with the media card prompt.
I recently uninstalled Windows SP3 RC1 from my computer and reverted back to Windows SP2 through the use of Projekt (Project) Dakota. Before uninstallation though, one of my siblings had run this script to update to Windows SP3 RC2. I do not want to install the newest RC2, as I'm now waiting for a final release. I changed my Windows Update Settings to download but to not install, as it was already downloaded from yesterday. Is there anyway to remove the already downloaded but not installed update for Windows SP3 RC2, and is there anyway to remove the script (that tells the computer to download SP3 RC2?)
can somebody explain to me as detailed as possible,about how to edit your Registry.I know you can really mess things up if you don't do things properly,it would be greatly appreciated.I am in need to access it to stop messenger from starting at boot/running in the backround.I went within windows messenger it self and unchecked the boxes(run windows messenger when Windows starts and allow messenger to run in backround)BUT IT STILL RUNS IN THE BACKROUND?I also have other things I need to deal with by editing my Registry.Just unsure exactly HOW TO BACK THE REGISTRY AND EDIT IT??I keep NOTICING (msmsgs.exe)listed in my running processes when I pull up task manager.
Tow recent additions to the Beta stable have left me impressed enough to tout it's benefits. :One-Care" is a lifesaver program that is a joy to use as soon as you open it from the download try it and you will like it - or not(Tell Me) You read everyday about backing up problems but now I believe that has been resolved in one fell swoop by this program. What's going on? did Microsoft finaslly hire a programmer who lived in the real world?
The other program is "One-Note".I find myself happily configuring this program to the way I do things and it responds (some quircks but the feedback allowance appears to be listening)Try the programs for discussion at the outset before they print the final copies and some ogf the little things that need tweaking may actually be done without getting zillions of patches.
I suppose I became bored(or stupid) but I decided to give Windows Live One Care a try. I like the idea that it has a two way firewall.I've tried Zone Alarm, but it's just too much trouble! Any opinions on this? I haven't read anything on this forum one way or the other. It has a 90 day free trial, so if I don't like it I can always reinstall my Avast,which I was having NO trouble with.

I have installed advanced windows care professional but yesterday by mistake some files are deleted and i was told to reinstallation will fix the error but when i have tried for reinstalltion a message pop up. I recently installed Windows Live One Care on my computer. After installing it, I attempted to open it but had no success. An error message pops up and says "Windows Live One Care has encountered a problem and needs to close." It gives me the option to Send Error Report or to Not Send Error Report. This happens constantly everyime i try to open it. I can not reinstall this program because it is not listed in my Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Also, I tried using their (Microsoft's) uninstaller and i get this message.
I run a Dell XPS M140. I'm ready to pull my hair out. Three days ago I was infected with the "AV Security Suites" virus. I immediately shut down my computer, restarted in Safe Mode With Networking, and ran every single thing I had. I ran Avast, Spybot, Ad-aware, Malwarebytes, CCleaner, Registry Mechanic, Advanced System Care, and Glary Utilities. I thought I got it. I restarted my computer in normal mode and all seemed well until I noticed I cannot change my desktop theme or wallpaper. When I change the theme to "Windows Classic", it works, but when I restart my computer it's right back to the XP theme (green start button/blue taskbars)

I am trying to completely lock down anything from running on a specific user account, except for 1 program which auto runs on boot.. I'v been able to lock the system down pretty well with the group policy editor.. but is there anything similiar to this that will edit specific user settings only? Or make my admin account not affected by the group policy editor?

I have a problem with these context menus after some applications, like Winamp, created chaos in the menu for file folder and folder. I cannot double-click on folders anymore because the default task has been changed as well. For some reason I cannot access to edit most entries in the menu. I would like to change the menu default back to double-click and eliminate several items in the menu.
When ever I open up one of the menus in any program (file, edit, tools, windows etc.) it doesn't show me anything unless I run my cursor down over them all. This all so happens with all the sub menus

I recorded a move off of television onto a dvd, and now I want to edit out the commercials and burn a new copy for myself. What is some good software to do this with? I have Adobe Premiere 6.0, but I cannot seem to get that to work with this dvd. I was able to decrypt it to my hard drive. I am very familiar with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, but they are not for this type of editing,apparently.With DVD Shrink,all I can do is cut the beginning and the end credits etc. Is there something like DVD Shrink, but better, that lets you cut out the commercials and then encode it and burn it?
I want to remove a few right click functions that have added them selfs to my menu. I have managed to remove all but a few.These only occur when i right click a folder (i got rid of the ones for files).
In Windows XP, for an individual file, you can right-click an individual file, and then click Properties, then Summary, then enter the comments and keywords. But this is very cumbersome. Is there an easier way? I'd like to be able to enter the same keywords for multiple files at the same time (Explorer won't let you), and/or just click the file and type the information in a side-pane.
I am having a problem with file associations in that the options in Folder Options/File Types are grayed out. These are the New, Delete, Change and Advanced buttons. I noticed that I had a problem with my associations when my computer stopped keeping the changes I made using the Open With/Choose Program method. I installed Foobar2000 media player today and when I tried to associate media files within the configuration preferences I get the error message "An error occurred while changing file type associations. If you are using a limited account, please contact your system administrator.
So I allowed MS to do the hotfix and upade thing, it installed IE7 in one of the updates, so now the tool bar with File Edit View Favorites and all the other stuff is gone, anybody know how to get it back,I opened my file explorer and checked if I still had a favorites folder under my user name and I did, so I made a copy of it, when I opened my IE next time the toolbar was the MSN tool bar, am I going to have to stop this again?
