I'm trying to make a dual boot system Vista/XP with my HP Media Center purchased in 2007 with Vista pre-installed. Inside Vista I created the partition for XP (disk D and rebooted with the 'XP Pro SP2' inside. After selecting its correct partition for installing it copies all files on hard disk and it reboots in order to start its installation, upon rebooting and starting first time from hard disk, it says that there is an error in the system and stops. If I install only XP on the system it works correctly even though some newest hardware is not recognized. I had already made a dual boot two years ago with a 2007 XP Student Edition and it smoothly. If it is due to the XP version being too old that maybe cannot deal with the boot record created by Vista Or perhaps such an old XP cannot recognize a boot hard disk that is not C:? Is there a way to bypass this point (perhaps fixing the boot record) in order to continue correctly the installation? Thank you, Al
I originally had Vista Business edition on my laptop and decided to dual boot with XP. So far I created a partition on the same drive (C: ) as Vista and installed XP on it. how do I choose between Vista and XP when my computer boots up? When I turn on my computer it boots straight into XP and doesn't show that menu where it gives me a choice of which OS I want to boot
Is it possible to have a Vista based system and then load XP on the same system and switch between the two. I know mac's have something similar to this but i have an HP dv7 pavilion notebook with an AMD Turion x2 Dual-core mobile RM-70 2ghz processor, 4 gb of ram, ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics chip set, and 156GB of free harddrive space
just ordered a new pc that is on its way pre loaded with WIN XP PRO SP2. It also come with a free VISTA BUSSINES upgrade. I want to set up a dual boot system when i get my VISTA disk. should i use partition magic and set up a new partition for vista or is there a better way of doing this
I initially started with XP and created a separate partition for Vista, installing Vista on the other partition, Vista sees the (XP) Earlier version of windows. When I choose XP, I get the following error: NTOSKRNL.EXE is missing or corrupt. If I repair the XP with fixmbr - I end up screwing up Vista. Then when I repair Vista, it end's screwing up XP

I was dual booting XP and Vista but didn't want Vista anymore. So I got rid of Vista, and that's all said and done now. Problem is, the boot loader is still coming up telling me to choose between "Earlier Version of Windows" and "Windows Vista". How to I get rid of it without using Vista's boot manager?
I'm currently running Vista on a raid 0 array, and want to dual with XP. I have two partitions, one with vista and the other that I tried installing XP on. After it finishes the initial installation and restarts it says to press any key to boot from the CD. I wait without pressing anything and than it says that there was an error reading the disk. If I remember correctly, after it restarts it goes strait into windows setup. This happens every time I try restarting, but I can get back into vista by putting the hard drive to boot first. In vista I can see the other partition where XP was installed, and inside is just a folder titled WINDOWS and it seems like all the windows files are in there
I had win xp installed on my C:, then installed win2k on my G:. I reformatted my C:, and when I restarted my computer, it could not boot into win2k.. it gave me an "insert system disk" error
I have a new laptop that came with Windows Vista. I have been trying to load it with Windows XP because Windows Vista didnt work. I am pretty sure a format and clean install will wreck my warranty, hence the dual boot. So far, I have been able to partition and install XP SP-2 to a partition. I've booted into XP fine but my Vista partition is not available. I think that the partition table or MBR has been corrupted.
So to repair this, what I did was boot up from the Vista recovery DVD and run the 'startup repair' option to reload the bootloader for Vista and thus, enable dual booting. When I rebooted I got a black screen saying 'Invalid Partition Table' or something to this effect. I tried repairing the MBR and so on and so forth from the console on the recovery DVD but this proved to be pretty much totally fruitless. So I went through and did an install of Windows XP once again, to my other drive partition I had created. So I am basically where I started.
I have a dual boot PC, Windows ME on one HDD and XP on another,but for some reason the windows XP setup is now one of the options, and I 'd like to get rid of it without messing up the bootlog. The following is my boot file, anyone know how to edit it to get rid of the "XP setup" option without messing up everything else.
I am using Windows XP Home edition. I want to use IIS and Windows XP Home edition does not include IIS.I'm trying to upgrade from XP home edition to XP Professional. I have tried running the setup.exe from the Windows Professional CD but it gives an "error: 70077, paramater authorization failure".what should I do now to upgrade from XP home edition to XP professional?

I'm having problems dual booting XP with Vista. My first problem is that I can't see the space I create from when I shrink the volume on the XP install screen. I have 2 HDs, both over the 137 GB limit (or whatever it is) so I assume it may be related to that. Also the main HD has a separate partition for Vista. I don't really use the one HD so I was going to just install XP on that and be done with it. Well when I went to do that, it said that it couldn't recognize the formatting on the C drive or it may be damaged and would need to reformat it to continue. I canceled out of it and then my pc wouldn't boot. I had to put the Vista cd in to repair it
I'm thinking about unplugging the C drive and then trying again. Or would that cause problems when I plugged it back in?
I loaded a second disk drive with Vista Beta 2 and have XP on another drive.Problem is I don't see Vista as an option to boot from? What is the name of the file(s) I have to edit to get this to work?
When i get a message in hotmail which has a couple of pictures tagged on the bottom it will only print the text and not the pictures unless it all fits on one page .If several pages are required only the first page shows any pictures,the other pages come out blank apart from the hotmail menu on the left hand side.
My OE has a glitch or is corrupt. I have followed step by step the following Microsoft site down to the instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling IE6.0 with does include OE 6.0 The strange behavior that I am experiencing is:
1. When I open OE and click on "Create email" the page momentarily comes up to write and email, but then immediately OE closes....vanishes. This all happens in a second or so. 2. If I go to Tools/options within the open OE program, anything I change within Options makes OE show "this program is not responding" in Ctrl/Alt/delete/Applications.
I have not attempted to uninstall and reinstall as shown on the given website above as it looks complicated to me with limited experience.Is there a simple way of uninstalling and reinstalling OE please. I have XP/SP2
I had vista and xp in dual boot and decided i was going to delete the vista partition, well apon restarting my comp,i get a real quick Invalid boot something or other, cant read all of it before it disapers, and then nothing, it wont boot into xp.i have done a fixboot and i did a bootcfg/rebuild and still nothing
I wish to set up a dual boot arrangement using :existing 300GB HDD and new 1000GB HDD existing Win XP pro and new Win Vista existing Wireless Broadband and new ADSL2+ without physically changing plugs on the internet and allowing access to the alternate HDD from each selected boot. Also is there an online training facility where I can learn more about programming system modules and changing startup files and defaults. I did do a Microsoft course years ago on NT4 but my notes and memory have gone astray
I had partitioned my HD to run XP (pro sp3) and Vista. Not liking vista, I deleted it and merged the two partitions into one, XP. Now when I boot I still get the option to boot to vista or an earlier OS. There is only one OS so I thought that would just be gone. Its not. How do I get rid of that screen at start so it just boots into xp, I'm being careful because I tried to reverse them when I partitioned it and ended up with a real jumbo

Problem: I am unable to connect to the internet.I have a new build dual boot system with Vista x64 SP 1 Home Premium on C: drive Seagate 120G 7200, XP Home Edition SP 2 on E: drive Seagate 160G 7200. A third Seagate 500G is for games, etc. Vista was installed first and the internet connection works. XP works well except I cannot make an internet connection. I have a Linksys WRB54G router which takes its internet connection from my cable company's modem. I have 4 ethernet connection points: 1 goes to a desktop, another goes to a notebook, the third goes to the computer in question and the fourth is unused. This router also has wireless capability. My build chassis is a Thermaltake "Kandalf" LCS, 1000W CoolerMaster, XFX 790i Ultra MB, Core2 Duo E8500 at 3.16 GHz, 4gig Corsair DDR3 in two 2gig sticks, two XFX 9800GX2 in quad SLI, a cd/dvd drive, and a floppy, kb, and mouse. Motherboard has two ethernet ports, one in use (Vista).I am not familiar enough with networking to know how to proceed. The Connection Wizard is no help, 'specially since I don't know what I am doing.
The moment I loged in and reboot. I bumped into the unbootable stage again. However, this time the repair feature did not work and I ended up having to do a re-install. So now I'm stuck with this:I've tried running eveysingle usable option in the repair window but none worked. I've even tried replacing the BOOTMGR via CMD in the repair window with the Windows Vista Disc but still nothing.And whenever I try to do the install, once it gets to the last step. It tells me something like this:"Cannot move onto next steop, issue doing the install blah blah blah. Windows will not restart something something."
I installed Windows Vista on My XP macin, but on another hard drive, I checked it out and then after a while I reformated the HD, and removed Windows Vista from the boot.ini, making my XP set as the default. With Vista removed from my hard drive, well for some reason every time I boot my XP system I have to choose the XP system. If I do not make it before the 30 secons I get a message that the operating system is missing.
A couple days ago, I was running Vista and XP on two seperate hard drives on my desktop. I have since deicded to use the Vista hard drive for data storage and have removed it from my desktop.However,whenever I boot up my desktop, my computer still goes to the black windows uploader screen and askes me to choose and "Earlier version of windows" (the XP) or my non-existant Vista.
I installed XP x64 (Yes, I know, that was a mistake) on my machine a while ago and was tired of having to put up with all the incompatibility issues that had been arising, whether it was not having iTunes work properly to even some of my favorite software just not loading and prompting me with error messages.
I'm going to build a new computer. It will have a new 500 GB Seagate 7200.11 32 MB cache. I want to reuse my current 500 GB Samsung Spinpoint 7200 RPM 16 MB cache, which is currently used only for backup storage. What's the best way to have both XP and Vista on the new computer (which is also possible to do)?Vista on the new Seagate; XP on the the old Samsung (will all my files be wiped out during the installation?)The reverse of the above XP on 100GB partition on the new Seagate; Vista on the remaining 400GB; use the old Samsung as I have been all this time. I am trying to make a flash drive bootable into wxpro. I have several format tools inclucing hp format tool. When I tried to access 98 startup disk to format my rally drive I got the message "no media". I copied the files to another area and received the same message. I then tried the format tool in xp. I cannot access the greyed out area to include msdos sys files. I have a old dos 6.0 prog that I use at work. I have been able to get the prog to work in 98. The use of a flash drive would be excellent if I can get it to work. To access/remove computer is a hassle and if I could just plug in a flash drive in would be excellent. So far I havent been able to get the drive to boot into xp.
