Computer Starts Up Into The BartPE Without The CD Rom

Nov 15, 2006

I used at work, BartPE burned CD and a formatted USB thumbdrive (which I did not create) to boot my CPU's and it installed an "image" of windows XP onto the drive using Norton Ghost and everything thing moves great.I have read that most imaging software can be used to do this with BartPE. What I have not figured out yet though is how and where you put the image in BartPE when you do the "build" and then make it start ghost or the 'image' upon bootup in the cpu.

right now i have successfully created the BartPE CD and "thought" i had used the CMD to format C: drive then told it where to install the files from BARTPE to C: drive, which did not work ( i dont guess) for the computer now starts up into the BartPE without the CD rom now, but NO

Installed BartPE - Used The Cd

Jan 27, 2008

Recently I became devoted to taking care of my computer by installing Anti-virus, spyware removers, and backup/performance utilties. Well I came across BartPE and it's features. Well I decided to use it and have the Rescue CD just incase. Doesn't hurt right? Plus the idea of it seems very helpful if I ever need a virtual Windows XP. I continued with the instructions and all was well until I got errors and warnings.

I posted the log here. I have no clue on what to do next. I used the CD that came with my Dell Dimension E521. I use Windows XP Media Center 2005.

BartPE CD Messing With On Hard Drive?

Jun 5, 2010

Strange occurance on a machine today. There was nothing wrong with the rig running XP Pro. I was testing a BartPE bootdisk with WiFi drivers for the specific card that was on the computer. Boots up PE no prob, no joy on the NIC though, but thats not the issue. I'll fix that later. When I exited PE and restarted the machine the boot.ini had been modified. It now showed 3 instances of Windows XP (which where non existent) and when I booted into windows it had re-enabled ALL the startup programs (all but a few where disabled through msconfig) and even some previously disabled Services had been restarted. Everything else was fine, it took a bit of work to change it all back and correct the boot.ini file, but just wondering if anyone know WHY this would have happened. I cant think of anything in the PE boot that would have done that

The computer is in a cold place so I know it's not overheating, the fan is loud and it turns off and on rapidly, and just whenever. The area around the computer is well ventilated.

How To Disable Log On - When Computer Starts Up?

Nov 12, 2008

OS= Windows XP. When I turn on my computer, I get this: Log On Message: The system could not log you on. Make sure your username and domain are correct, then type your password again. Then, I get this: Log on to Windows: User name: HP_Administrator Password _________________

At that point, I do not even have to enter a password, I just click "ok" and it starts up. But the extra steps are a pain. My computer just recently started doing this. How can I turn off or disable this "log on" stuff? I've tried dinking around at Control Panel>User Accounts, but I do not seem to be able to resolve the problem.

Computer Crashes Every Time It Starts Up

Dec 16, 2006

First off, here are my computer specs (I like to get detailed): HP Pavilion a820n running Windows XP SP2
540J Pentium 4 HT, 3.20 GHz (1MB L2 cache, 800MHz front side bus)512 MB PC3200 DDR SRAM memory
200 GB 7200RPM Serial ATA hard drive.Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 with up to 128 MB shared video memory.Thats whats on the front of my tower. So, the title of this thread is self explanatory. I just turn on the computer and after it loads, after the desktop appears and right around when the desktop icons are loading, it just goes blank and restarts itself. Last night I did an error check for the hard drive, and it didnt come up with anything. I actually went to bed while it was scandisk or whatever, and when I got up, the computer was in its neverending cycle of resterting and crashing. I can, however, load it in safe modes, like with networking; that's what I'm using right now.

Computer Quickly Restarts Once Starts

Let me just say I'm not the computer savvy one in the family, waiting for him to get home later. So once I would login to windows I would get about 2 seconds before the screen would flash blue and I'd get some message I couldn't make out. I did some searching on your forums; and have now logged into safe mode, turned off the automatic restart and here's the error I get on the blue screen: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps: Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Computer Only Starts In Safe Mode After Updates

Dec 5, 2008

I've been working on my father's computer (an HP pavillion zv5000), and realized that he had some Windows XP updates to be installed, so I decided to download them. What I didn't realize at the time was that he hadn't installed any updates in almost 2 years (though Automatic Updates appear to be enabled). When I rebooted after the installations were complete, I could not start in Normal Mode. When starting normally, I get a black screen with white writing saying that there's been a problem with the computer (can't remember word-for-word), and gives me the option to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, and another safe mode. It also offers to start up with the last settings that worked, or normal mode. When I try to boot up in normal mode, it sends me back to that same screen, and likewise when I try to boot with the last settings. Now it only works in Safe Mode. I'm not really sure what's happened, and if it's related to the updates or if it could be a virus.

Computer Some Times Starts - Some Times Doesn't - System Restore Point

Apr 10, 2006

I seem to be having problems as of late with my computer. for the past 10-15 days when I startup my computer sometimes Windows will load and other times it won't. I don't even get the privledge of the blue screen of death, but rather then brown green screen saying Windows failed to start. Usually it takes 3-4 tries before Windows successfully loads, but it seems to be getting progressively worse. I haven't installed any new software or modifiied any configuration details within the last 30days. I even tried a system restore point of about a month ago and I continue to have this problem.

I threw in my XP cd for a re-install but it says my version of windows is newer then the one on the cd, and after thinking about it, if this is a serious problem, having to re-install windows, all of my drivers for my 3rd party hardware and then update everything might not be worth the effort if I can just get a new computer. I have been pondering for a while of purchasing a mac for my next round of computer purchases so if it comes down to that, hardware and software costs from my current system are not a major issue. So is my computer just slowly dying like a used car, or what might be the problem?
