ever since I installed xp I've been having this problem .When I'm done useing my computer I shut it down and walk away.I saw it shut down I heard it shut down it is shut down.When I return into the room the computer is up and running and I've seen it turn on by it self.Is there something somewhere that i need to set?

I have a Computer problem i couldnt solve.When i push the power button on my case, the fans and the Bios beep are noticed. After that it just stops, it wont go past that point.

The following message is displayed on the screen 'CMOS settings wrong.Press F1 to restore defaults and continue' Upon pressing F1 the machine starts. I do'nt know how to set CMOS settings right Time/Date settings change automatically.
I cannot install any software.Messages like file missing.Cannot open installer pkg.Contact your vendor etc. I do'nt have the installation cs availablewith me.However when I try to repair/reinstall with the help of my other win xp cd, i get the message 'key no. is wrong.I cannot format the c: drive from within.
I have an eMachines Mod. T2642. OS WindowsXP Home sp2. When I plug in the power cord, the fans start up and the HD LED starts to flash and there is a clicking sound coming from the cpu. This is as for as it goes...no p.o.s.t. no nothing. The power switch will not turn the system off.

The beeping is not consistant and periodically beeps in a different tone. I repartioned and reformated the disk but I still have the problem. Is there any one with an idea of what might cause this. View 2 Replies View RelatedI used at work, BartPE burned CD and a formatted USB thumbdrive (which I did not create) to boot my CPU's and it installed an "image" of windows XP onto the drive using Norton Ghost and everything thing moves great.I have read that most imaging software can be used to do this with BartPE. What I have not figured out yet though is how and where you put the image in BartPE when you do the "build" and then make it start ghost or the 'image' upon bootup in the cpu.
right now i have successfully created the BartPE CD and "thought" i had used the CMD to format C: drive then told it where to install the files from BARTPE to C: drive, which did not work ( i dont guess) for the computer now starts up into the BartPE without the CD rom now, but NO
Recently I moved back to Australia from Washington State. I unpacked my harddrive and loaded up the computer. I noticed that the fan will kick off when I turn on the computer, or sometimes in the middle of doing something online. The computer is in a cold place so I know it's not overheating, the fan is loud and it turns off and on rapidly, and just whenever. The area around the computer is well ventilated.

Make sure your username and domain are correct, then type your password again. Then, I get this: Log on to Windows: User name: HP_Administrator Password _________________
At that point, I do not even have to enter a password, I just click "ok" and it starts up. But the extra steps are a pain. My computer just recently started doing this. How can I turn off or disable this "log on" stuff? I've tried dinking around at Control Panel>User Accounts, but I do not seem to be able to resolve the problem.
In short, I screwed up the c:/windows folder, computer starts but screen stays black, bios screen doesn't show up. Everything is connected.
Using xp home. Computer was purchased in 2004. Fairly nice computer for it's age, would like to restore it back to working condition. I have a friend who is using windows xp.When they boot the computer up.They encounter a black screen with some wording.He tells me that the wording is to do with ms dos.Then the screen goes black,with just the cusor showing in the top hand left corner.
I have an idea of what the problem is,and think that someone has gone into his settings and asked the machine to boot up in dos.

I just turn on the computer and after it loads, after the desktop appears and right around when the desktop icons are loading, it just goes blank and restarts itself. Last night I did an error check for the hard drive, and it didnt come up with anything. I actually went to bed while it was scandisk or whatever, and when I got up, the computer was in its neverending cycle of resterting and crashing. I can, however, load it in safe modes, like with networking; that's what I'm using right now.
I have Microsoft Windows XP and once I turn it on it appears as it is restarting but as soon as it starts up after the black screen that says Microsoft Windows XP the screen goes black and says monitor going to sleep and then it restarts over and over and over!

So once I would login to windows I would get about 2 seconds before the screen would flash blue and I'd get some message I couldn't make out. I did some searching on your forums; and have now logged into safe mode, turned off the automatic restart and here's the error I get on the blue screen: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps: Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows XP on an 8 year old Gateway computer,and it will only start in safe mode.This happened after I updated my hardware drivers.I got a fatal system error box,and system restore doesn't work. When I try to use the Gateway Restore discs,they won't play because my D drive isn't recognized. Should I just scrap everything and get a new HD since I haven't had any luck with reinstalling,or is there a way for a computer idiot to reinstall Windows XP without a disc? I never got one,this was my roommate's old PC.Sorry if this is in the wrong place.
View 3 Replies View RelatedLately my computer has been running very crappy and I have noticed when it first boots up after everything loads up, the CPU usuage is at 100%. Main reason is due to one of the svchost.exe files are using 98% of it. After about 10 minutes this goes away. But what would this problem be related to? I can post a hijackthis log if necessary.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI've been working on my father's computer (an HP pavillion zv5000), and realized that he had some Windows XP updates to be installed, so I decided to download them. What I didn't realize at the time was that he hadn't installed any updates in almost 2 years (though Automatic Updates appear to be enabled). When I rebooted after the installations were complete, I could not start in Normal Mode. When starting normally, I get a black screen with white writing saying that there's been a problem with the computer (can't remember word-for-word), and gives me the option to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, and another safe mode. It also offers to start up with the last settings that worked, or normal mode. When I try to boot up in normal mode, it sends me back to that same screen, and likewise when I try to boot with the last settings. Now it only works in Safe Mode. I'm not really sure what's happened, and if it's related to the updates or if it could be a virus.
Installed SP3 today.The install seemed to go fine.Restarted the computer,now I am stuck in a boot loop computer starts, goes to the We apologies page.None of the load options work, computer simply shuts down and goes back to the same page. Since this computer was a Vista-ready computer,but I ordered it with Win XP Pro,I don't have the OEM Win XP Pro CD.Therefore, can't do a chkdsk.

Everything went well as expected except for one thing.When I turn on my computer, the acer logo appears then a page appears again which asks me to choose whether to start windows xp or repair it using USB. I have to always click the start windows xp before the windows logo appears and everyhting in windows is alright. I dont know how to fix this so that after the acer logo appears, windows logo comes next then desktop.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having problems as of late with my computer. for the past 10-15 days when I startup my computer sometimes Windows will load and other times it won't. I don't even get the privledge of the blue screen of death, but rather then brown green screen saying Windows failed to start. Usually it takes 3-4 tries before Windows successfully loads, but it seems to be getting progressively worse. I haven't installed any new software or modifiied any configuration details within the last 30days. I even tried a system restore point of about a month ago and I continue to have this problem.
I threw in my XP cd for a re-install but it says my version of windows is newer then the one on the cd, and after thinking about it, if this is a serious problem, having to re-install windows, all of my drivers for my 3rd party hardware and then update everything might not be worth the effort if I can just get a new computer. I have been pondering for a while of purchasing a mac for my next round of computer purchases so if it comes down to that, hardware and software costs from my current system are not a major issue. So is my computer just slowly dying like a used car, or what might be the problem?
computer now takes half an hour to an hour to reboot. in doing so, it tells me that it does not do the startup and services. it is so slow it is unbelievable. sometimes even being so slow that the words we type take a few seconds to show up on the screen. after working for a time it will invariably hang. or it will shut itself down. in either case we have to reboot, it takes that half an hour to an hour again
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I turn on my computer, it does the bios check, then goes into the bios screen on its own. I have checked all of the bios settings, and see nothing set wrong. The only way I can get itno my xp pro system, is to use "F8" during the bios check, the select my hd from there, then it seems only half of my programs work, and it also seems to be randomly changing the programs that do not work, when I do this.
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy system has been acting up today. I got home from class and tried to install my Microsoft Visual Studio, it asked me to restart after the installation. When I did, right when it got to the desktop it said something about a registry problem has been restored and the system has been recovered. Something along those lines. Getting back on the subject, 5 seconds after it reaches the desktop it crashes. Not a hard crash, just a restart, but it crashes none-the-less. Is there a way to get around this without reformatting?(I even tried running in Safe Mode, same problem.) I can't seem to find a way to fix it if I can't even get to my desktop.
View 11 Replies View RelatedA couple of weeks ago I downloaded latest windows update and rebooted as instructed. Only the PC kept rebooting itself continuously. When I stopped it with F8 and set it not to restart on errors I got a critical windows error message. I reformatted drive and reinstalled windows, all was fine for a couple of days, then here is the really wierd thing. I heard the fan spinning but neither I nor Lady Walsh had turned the PC on. I once again found it rebooting itself in a continuous loop. Seems it turned itself on from standby and corrupted windows again. I totally wiped the disc, reformatted both partitions and reinstalled windows. Did a full Norton antivirus scan which came up clean. But the same happened again yesterday. Anyone heard of a virus that can start your PC up from standby and reinstall itself ? And that can survive a disc fomat and windows re-installation? I'm running XP Sp2 on an AMD64 with 1 Gb RAM 120 Gb disc.
View 10 Replies View Relatedwhen my windows xp boots up...everything starts up except that the yahoo and msn messengers as well as the broadband connection dialin link doesnt works till like a minute or so after windows has got booted...it seems like the windows waits for something to load for about a minute and then after a minute the hard drive shows some activity and yahoo,msn and the broadband link comes up and i can only dial the link then...this 1 minute wait for the connection to be connected is really annoying me...from the task manager i c that 2 services imapi.exe,alg.exe and wmiserve.exe starts up after the freezing time of the windows and then net connection gets connected...if u want any more details i will let you know.
