I want to remove about 8 items from the right click context menu either in Explorer or while on the Desktop. I read an article that said all you had to do was edit the Registry by doing a search for ShellNew and remove the entire key if you didn't want any of them. I did this several times and did find all of them at least 5 times. But they are still there.

I cannot double-click on folders anymore because the default task has been changed as well. For some reason I cannot access to edit most entries in the menu. Since a few days ago, whenever I right click on a device, folder, or file, or whenever I click on the File or Edit menu when one of these entities is selected, the computer freezes, and I need to press Ctrl-Alt-Del and close the Explorer in order to continue. This problem does not occur within the open-file or save-file dialog of other applications, or even in Windows Explorer when browsing the "My Documents" section.

View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently whenever i right click on anything or anywhere on my computer, be it the desktop or an avi file etc, the list that should normally open instantly, takes a long time to open - this can vary from only a few seconds to 10+ seconds.Once i have waited for the menu to open however and click off it, the next time i right click on the same point it opens instantly. I presume this is because it has cached the menu or something.Ive had a look around the internet.

Seems like every time I open some application it puts a link on the start menu, I realize I can delete this by right clicking it and choosing "remove this item from the list". How do I prevent it from being put there in the first place?

Since I have installed a few new drivers/Software I have been having trouble with my desktop right click menu, the apps I've installed have added 3 new items on this menu and they take ages to load, even though they are not really that necessary and can be accessed without right clicking. The number of items causes the menu box to be either top justified or bottom justified, depending on where the cursor is located when the right click button is used. I am therefore having to move the cursor all over the screen to chase the desired "save Image" command. Also, with IE6, several menu items have been added (over IE5)....but, I am NEVER going to "email picture", "print picture", nor "go to my pictures" from this menu box. I could delete 7 of these pesky items, if I knew how, thus making this a much more user friendly menu box.

I have some startup items that I want to remove on my computer. I have used the msconfig to uncheck the boxes for these startup processes, but I then get a message when I startup about running in diagnostic mode. How do I permantly disable these processes?

Am not comfortable going into the registry and doing anything because I do not know anything same and have been warned that unless you are an expert - leave the registry completely ALONE! View 11 Replies View RelatedThis problem only happens to files that i delete from the OPEN or SAVE AS windows rather than deleting from the file folder itself. For example if I were to go to a folder in my external hard drive and delete a file that way it's not a problem to empty it from the recycle bin. But if I was saving a file or opening a file from an app and I delete it from that dialog box those are the files that just can't seem to be remove from the recycle bin. I know it's due to my external drive because when I turned it off the files are not in the recycle bin anymore. Now i tried using the Task Manager to turn off all processes dealing with my external hard drive but I still can't remove those files from the recycle bin; unless there are other files that i need to stop the process of.

Maybe I should not have it checked to create a back up each time it is run? Also should I run a hijack this report because of CPU usage or are they even related. I have a ton of program in my system tray (which I've been told means they are running somehow, and presumably using up resources). I'm assuming this might be contributing to the slow speed of my computer. Can anybody tell me how to prevent these programs from starting up whenever I start the computer. Some of them are programs I hardly ever use and I'm sure I could find them to open them if I ever need them. I'm running Windows 2000 Professional.

I have tried changing the application location and then clicking on the Start Menu item so that I get an error message.
