Please can someone tell me why my PC has slowed right down & takes ages to open programes? It's driving me mad. I have got AVG & Zone Alarm running, also Spybot & Acronis Spyware Shield. Even with these I still keep getting spyware & adware but because Spybot runs every time I log on I get rid of them straight away.I don't know why things have slowed so much.
View 13 RepliesI have just reinstalled XP, and just installed SP2 for the first time, now the one glaring thing I have noticed immediately was my browser has slowed to an almost crawl. While sometimes, not often, the pages will load quickly, they usually take at least 10-15 secs, normally pages drop quite fast 2-4 secs for most as a guesstimate.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite with a Celeron M, 1.4Ghz, 1.5Gb RAM, and XP Home. In the past few days, it has slowed down to a crawl. Programs like Sound Forge that opened almost instantly now take a minute or more. I ran a complete virus scan and found nothing. System Restore won't work - even in Safe Mode. It's like everything is in slow motion. The CPU is active even when I'm doing nothing.

I am SO frustrated-- this has happened to me twice before, and I could not figure it out, so I just reinstalled fresh copies of Windows each time.It runs fine for a while, then all of a sudden this same problem comes back. When I first got the laptop 96months ago)I was prompted to download SP2 I did and had the same problem. Dell walked me through restoring and said I should not install SP2.

It takes a very long time to even load the interface fully. Most of the programs in Startup (MSConfig)also do not load. I have recently installed Norton 2005. I have scanned the system for Trojans, viruses, SpywareAdware etc. But nothing shows up. Is it because of NAV?? MSConfig/Startup also does not have any unknown entries.

View 5 Replies View Relatedwhen I try to open a Lotus WordPro file (*lwp) inside a folder it can take 30 seconds or more to open. Sometimes I have to click on the file a second time at which time I get a(not responding) message on the folder bar.If I open the same file by starting WordPro and selecting the same file from among recently opened files it opens almost instantly. Other types of files don't seem to be affected the system crashes when I right click on a folder to try and display properties.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI noticed that there was critical updates needed (XP/SP3) so i installed them and the browser was taking ages to load ( 2-5min's!) so i downloaded IE7 thinking that maby it needed that to work properly but still no success. Once the browser is opened it's pretty normal but if i open new links / tabs they take ages to load and its the same with closing them, I've been searching for quite a while for an answer but no luck.

My boss has a problem when shutting down his Laptop at work. When he chooses to shutdown it can take up to 10 minutes for it to shutdown and he is really starting to get worked up. However, when he uses it at home it shuts down right away. Can anyone suggest a posible reason for this? His laptop is a Dell with Windows xp. I will be monitoring this thread so if you need any extra info about the problem then drop me a line.

View 14 Replies View RelatedLast night I burned a cd using WMP 9 and everything was fine. It was done in about 10 min, then afterwards I closed everything and turned my computer off. This morning I started it up, and tryed to play a computer game. All of the sounds were slowed down to about 50%. I quit that and went to WMP to see if those sounds worked. They all played at 50% too. All of the sounds in windows do the same thing.

Have gone into "My computer" - then "advanced options" and increased virtual memory to 1500. There is a good amount of space on the disc. But actions made no difference and still get the message that the virtual memory is low. Speed of computer has not improved.Will try "System restore".
I'm using XP service pack 2 on a Fujitsu-Seimens laptop. The system has slowed down so much now that it can take 5 minutes to refresh a webpage. It has only recently happened. I use a good anti-virus but cannot now complete a scan in sensible time. The CPU seems to be working 100% all the time. I'm pretty sure the problem is down to something I've downloaded recently. I've used system restore but no luck there.

Now there appears to be only 22gb of free space.Is this normal? View 11 Replies View RelatedLast week my wife downloaded some crap off the internet and netpumper came along. She installed it unknowningly and started all Italian p0rn pop-ups. I detected netpumper and immediately uninstalled it, removed few of the registry entries I found.Did some regular cleaning process like Spyware S&D, Ad-ware, AVG anti-spyware. Got a clean chit from these guys and alls wiped out. I then ran AVG and Avast anti virus to make sure no virus is sitting in my system. Alls clean again. Then ran CCcleaner to clean some crap left behind by the OS.Now, I thought, the threat is gone (because no pop-ups) but now the threat started showing up as very slowed down PC.
