For some reason I can no longer start multiple Internet Explorers. When I try to start a second one (or click on a link that will start a new one) the old one is replaced by the new one. Windows XP Home.

trying to visit website that i visit the most frequently it takes forever for the browser to go to that site or for the site to even load. I ran spybot search&destroy as well as ad-aware, and deleted what it found, then i shut down my computer and installed updates as it was shutting down. when it started again, its still running very slow to some sites but if i go to website that i don't often go to

We have multiple laptops in our home along with a desktop. We all can connect just fine. We can't figure out what is going on with his. I've tried to reboot,we've tried connecting to the hard line, we've checked out the wireless router and the signal is fine. We've played with everything that we can play with and nothing works?

View 1 Replies View Relatedwas cleaning up PC, ran spybot/virus scan then turned my attention to the hard drive. When I ran Error Checking though, it took MUCH longer than normal and when I rebooted the taskbar was missing and IE would no longer start. This is XP Prof SP2 btw. I checked the obvious taskbar settings, tried restarting explorer.exe via task manager, ran sfc, undid the changes made by spybot and still nothing. I also tried to system restore, but it wont let me load it, saying "system restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart your computer and try system restore again."

View 2 Replies View RelatedAudio died recently, though I realize that now in retrospect.Started running real slow, finally died 4 weeks ago, MOBO wouldn't recognize Hard drive.after trying everything under the sun, I finally bought new harddrive. I installed winXP sp2 After installation, No Network connections.After trouble shooting I discovered that when I change the BIOS to enable on board ethernet, the MOBO recognizes that the PCI ethernet card is there and installs network connections...BUT, when I plug in the cable from the router, It does NOT see the bandwidth. It reads 10MBps when my laptop (plugged into the sme router ) reads 100. Additionally there is a green light on the back indicating that there is a connection AND my router lights up like something is connected.My device manager WILL show the ethernet card and that it is working properly. BUT no network connection (can't browse the I-net, can't connect to other computers on my network, PC is not visible to others on the network. total bytes sent and received remains 0.

I've been noticing some strange problems with my win2k box recently. If I go to the task manager, I notice I get multiple IEXPLORER.EXE processes appearing, some taking a good quantity of RAM over. If I try and end the process it comes back after a second and grows in file size. I've read some other threads and have HijackerThis 1.9, I can't see anything suscpicious in the log, but I'm a novice at that sort of thing. Also I checked for trojans etc and other files/folders but could see anything obvious.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever i launch internet explorer it takes longer than usual to load. And when i go to type a web address it just freezes and never loads a new webpage. I don;t know what is going on. This has started to happen on friday. I;ve ran the following and they found some stuff and have deleted it but i still have the same problem. I;ve even tried system restore and it still persist. I noticed that when i try to delete my history i get an error about not being able to open shell32.dll or something and that some about a inetcpl.cpl is having a problem.
I'm running XP Home Edition. A few days back I contracted one of those viruses that hi-jacks IE, but I was able to catch it before it completely installed. I used Malwarebytes, AVG and SuperAntiVirus to get rid of it and (after several scans) I'm now pretty certain that my system is 100% clean.Nevertheless, under the one user account that was infected AND in Admin (Safe Mode), programs like IE, Firefox, and Rhapsody can no longer find an Internet connection. Also Malwarebytes and SuperAntiVirus can't find their respective update servers. However, Bittorrent and Outlook still work fine and I can still ping IPs and Web addresses from the command window. The other odd thing is that one user account (on the same computer and that does not have Admin privileges) is still working perfectly.

I have quite a bit of free space on the hard drive, I run CCleaner, sophos antivirus, defrag, etc. I try to keep the system clean but am not sure if there is anything I can do to improve the performance.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Media Center Desktop PC with Windows XP SP2. I had no problem using my Screen Saver or Standby Mode when I had dial-up internet service. I decided to go with Starband Satellite Internet Service and I have had problems ever since. My PC goes into Standby Mode with no problem but will not stay, after a time my monitor and PC come back on, at times my Screen Saver fails to come on. I have checked my power settings and reset them, they are the same as they were before. The modem is always on but if I unplug the power cord Standby Mode and Screen Saver work normally. Starband says the problem is not because of their syatem. I would appreciate help to correct this issue.

View 10 Replies View Relatedi have a hp computer running windows xp and yesterday the internet stopped working so i tried restarting the modem and router and nothing happened so i was gonna shut down my computer and then start it back up but after i shut it down it never started back up. it just goes to the windows xp start screen and the little blue bar just keeps loading forever, i tried letting it set for about 30 minutes and still it would not load.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was on Firefox, which didn't have flash, so i decided to switch to Internet explorer, when i opened the program, my screen froze and i could not click on anything, it began to flash randomly, I couldn't do anything so i shut down the computer by the power button. I restarted the computer everything still working, and went back into Internet explorer 8 to see if it was still doing it. Yet again it happened and I powered down. When i started it again, the bios screen had small faint lines going though it in some places it continued to boot and got to a blue screen, and then nothing happens.

When the computer is connected to the internet via a DSL modem the start menu runs extremely slow. When the modem is off it acts normal. I also lost these 2 entries from the quick launch bar on the left, beside the START button. Obviously IE is still on the system because I'm here.
This tweak works also if your Using Zone Alarm or Zone Alarm Pro V.3.7. I found out by applying this tweak for Nortons with my Zone Alarm program.

Some days before I installed Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 for Windows XP-SP2. But I didnt feel secure with the changes and decided to uninstall it. But a problem comes. When I want to close the P C, I do as always: Click Start, Close, Shut Down. But, the P C instead of closing restarts. My Windows XP-SP2 is installed on Portuguese.
