Jul 12, 2005How/where do I configure XP to allow multiple internet windows open. Each time I go to a second site, the previous open site closes.

Nov 5, 2005I have checked into everything I can think of so that I can view images in my e-mail and on e-card websites.I have also downloaded netscape but it is the same there.I have a Dell Dimension 4600 Series desktop computer.I use Windows XP, Norton SystemWorks Premier 2005. I have Spyware Blaster, Pop Up blocker and a firewall.I have gone to each of these and checked anything that would prevent being able to view images.I get a blank bacground with a tiny square with a red x in it. I did a system restore due to a Trojan virus about 2 weeks ago, and nothing now shows up in my scans

Aug 14, 2005Opening Multiple files from Context Menu: Using Windows XP Home SP2, file Explorer, whenever I select multiple files (e.g. .doc, .xls, .jpg, or combinations, etc.), right click, and select the "open" command from the Context menu, for each file, before opening, it displays the "move items" dialog (which I cancel) and then a "copy items" dialog (which I cancel). These extra actions do not occur when I open a single file from the context menu. These extra actions do not occur when I select "preview" or any command other than "open". This problem seems related to "shell.dll", open ommand action settings, registry settings, or shell extension hooks. That is as far as I could get in researching this problem. open action settings, registry key changes, or shell extension hooks I should change using program ShellExView to solve this

Feb 25, 2005I am trying to set up Windows 2000 Pro to open multiple windows of folders. I went to the control panel, folder options and set the radio button to open multiple folder windows. It will not do it. I can only open one folder view at a time. What am I doing wrong? I know this is not earth shattering as far a problems go, but I really need two and three windows of folders open at a time.

Apr 4, 2010The problem I've got is this. About a week ago I noticed that I was struggling with internet access. Wifi connects to a known router no problem but actually accessing sites can be a pain. I often have to refresh multiple times in the browser (happens in Firefox, Chrome and Opera) to get it to finally load the page. Mar 22, 2008it enters a kind of loading spasm which can go on for several minutes, making this repeating, rhythmic pattern of loading noises, before everything goes back to normal. Foxit Reader and McAfee Security Center are the worst, but right after booting most programs cause it, as does merely logging on which now takes about ten minutes. It doesn't exactly make the computer unusable but it's incredibly frustrating. Outside of the spasms it's perfectly normal.
I haven't installed anything recently, except for a demo of Penumbra: Black Plague which I've since uninstalled . I have very little free hard disk space (1.5 GB of a 60 GB disk) but that's been the case for some time, while this only began a few days ago. I've done full scans with Ad-Aware, Spybot and McAfee which turned up nothing more than a few tracking cookies. I'll paste a HijackThis log if someone reckons it'd be of use, but I'm uncertain whether this is a malware problem (hence my not posting this in the malware section). It's occurred to me to just format and reinstall windows, but perhaps there's a likely simpler solution?

Apr 26, 2006It happens even opening the control panel, like 20 seconds. On the internet it's even worse. I have a cable connection. My puter was really fast before. I have a Pentium 4 - 2.4 - 512 Ram. It also seem to use a lot of high % of usage and I don't know what it is.

If I go to the task manager, I notice I get multiple IEXPLORER.EXE processes appearing, some taking a good quantity of RAM over. If I try and end the process it comes back after a second and grows in file size. I've read some other threads and have HijackerThis 1.9, I can't see anything suscpicious in the log, but I'm a novice at that sort of thing. Also I checked for trojans etc and other files/folders but could see anything obvious.

It also uses up a lot of RAM for some reason but the CPU usage is normal. I have another hard drive that is in a removable tray that I use, and that has all the same settings and everything, but that one is using a fraction of the RAM and runs pretty good!
