View 1 RepliesI have reset IE, changed setting and my IE will only open one window and not allow me to go back. Every time I try to open another IE window the original window becomes the new one. I don't have any virus or spyware, I have checked for all that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a cable connection and lately I have notice that most of my internet pages are laoding painfully slow. I have clean up the temp files, cache and have check for adware/spyware. I am directly connect to the cable modem so there is no interference with a router. My cable provider says there is no "packet loss" when they ping by IP. They suggest that it is something to do with my PC any suggestions?
View 38 Replies View RelatedInternet Explorer Problem. It was an Add-Ons problem but I can't seem to fix it.When I am in the original window of Internet Explorer and I click on a link that opens a new window. When I want to close the new window it will close down all of Internet Explorer and leave a Blank Page. Then it will want to report the error. It did not used to do this. It seemed to have started happening about the time I upgrade IE and they started the new tabs. I work online and I need it to stay open. I also need to be able to close those extra windows so i don't have to many piling up. It is really bogging down my work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have reinstalled windows for the 3th or 4th time and I am in the process of reinstalling all my programs, I have a few questions:
1) can I erase the directories the programs previously installed in the old version of windows?
As you can see in the attachments, I have installed my windows under the partition D: , so can I just go and erase all the folders of the utilities of my previously installed windows in C: ?
2) just out of curiosity, I tried to run some utilities previously installed and some of them work, other dont work. what does this mean?
3) at the system startup, how can I erase the choice between the 4 windows? I just want to leave this present working version.
4) I noticed a general slowing down of the memory when I run an application, can it be because of this new installation? how can I improve this problem?
I originally had Windows xp media center 2004 installed on my computer. When I tried to download the SP3 update, my computer froze. I then tried a repair using my original discs but Windows loaded and new windows2 system on my computer and my original windows no longer works ( I get an error message that Windows/system32/system files are corrupt or missing. I have reinstalled most of my applications on the windows2 system but everytime I reboot, I am asked whether I want to boot from windows media center or windows xp professional (which gives me an error message and does not boot). How can I get rid of the older windows version without compromising my new windows 2 operating system.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have to use XP only occasionally when housesitting for a relative. This version of windows has what is to me a major annoyance...whenever I open up more than 6 or 7 windows (multiple IEs to cruise web, messenger, folders, etc), it suddenly collapses them into one button on the toolbar. Then you can't quickly switch between windows...you have to go to the one button then a select from a menu which window you want to go back to.Hopefully this is simple setting fix, but I was not able to find it in toolbar options or in the "help" file.I'm just used to windows 98, and a lot of the "features" of XP really frustrate me.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm getting this perpetual lag issue. Windows folders and internet pages load slowly load slowly, and the mouse cursor responds to clicks when it feels like it. I've checked the mouse, and that's not the problem. I checked Task Manager and downloaded Process Explorer, but I never see more than 15% usage at a time. I've also run AVG for viruses/malware, but nothing comes up. I've had similar problems before, when a piece of hardware died, but so far I can't find any conflicts.
View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen I start IE6 it just hangs on a white screen. I have SP2 and I've removed and reinstalled IE6 a couple of times but it doesn't help. When I launch IE it just hangs attempting to load my homepage (google) but I can press stop and access Options etc.. Firefox and all my other programs that access the internet are working fine but I need IE working too.I can't even access my router control panel via IE which makes me think this is a IE networking configuration problem. I've tried flushing dns but that didn't help.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am having a system with XP Pro x64 with multiple shared folders. Here is the setup. I have about 10 users (1 Admin account, 9 Limited accounts). I have created 10 folders for each User and modified them as shared folders with each user having access to their respective folders ONLY while the Admin account will have access to all folders. I have disabled 'Simple File Sharing', switched off Guest Account. Now I can view this system on other systems on the n/w. But the problem is, if I map a shared folder on one system, I was not able to map anymore on other systems and it gives error, 'the system can not accept multiple connections' in those lines.

I've been noticing some strange problems with my win2k box recently. If I go to the task manager, I notice I get multiple IEXPLORER.EXE processes appearing, some taking a good quantity of RAM over. If I try and end the process it comes back after a second and grows in file size. I've read some other threads and have HijackerThis 1.9, I can't see anything suscpicious in the log, but I'm a novice at that sort of thing. Also I checked for trojans etc and other files/folders but could see anything obvious.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently go tthe new comp and then ran into some errors when downloading off the internet, Files turn corrupt most of the time on IE or Firefox and other times it might want to work, Downloading the install for Winamp is one which will corrupt every time no matter how I try it, check for virus's, spyware, turn everything else off, turn off the firewall and I've done all that and still haven't gotten anything. I've been told I should try and update my bios but I know that could only cause more problems in certain cases, Even when trying the asus auto update it says that it couldn't uncompress it. One of the classic errors is" NSIS error, The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or virus. It may be possible to skip this check using /NCRC command line switch(Not recommended )". As well as say if any torrents that I get bit comet says it's corrupt and ones that work in the regular bittorrent downloader go at trash speeds, router I was on was set up before this so it should still be good. I hope this is enough information, if more is needed I'd be happy to tell you. I also cleaned the regestry and checked for viruses and malware as well as anything else I could think of.
ok I have a bunch of crap (virus') on my computer and i am in the process of tryin to fix it. i.e. spybot, ad-aware, spyblaster, and HJT. One problem im havinf is that i cant go to any web pages. so i have to do all this then bring the results to work so neeedless to say its taking some time. well anyway i was wondering since my computer is pretty new would it be ok to save the few things i wanna keep on a flash disk and reformat and reinstall windows media center edition? Or would last known good configuration do the trick (get all the crap off)?
