Using IE6, is there anyway I can stop a new web page opening up everytime I click on a link? For example, when i was browsing this forum, every different thread i clicked on opened a new window instead of just opening in the exisiting one.
View 6 Repliesmy PC is very sensitive....when left idle it takes about 5 minutes just to changes web pages.Sometimes it is running well, sometimes it is really slow. I am using windows XP and have firewall and AVG. Can anybody help?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI believe I have a virus but I can't seem to find information about it. I am unable to clear it up when I run virus checks either.What's happening is this. When ever I open a web page (aol is my home page with ie as my brower) the page takes forever to load and then just after it does load I get a message saying "We're sorry, the content you requested is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." My computer is also EXTREMELY slow to load pages - pages that use to load within 5 seconds (like when checking email) can take 5 minutes to open, if it opens at all.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI tend to have problems with Firefox taking an unusually long time to load pages, and normally, I can solve that with using a System Restore. This time, though, I can't get System Restore to work. I've tried several times from various checkpoints, but each time I get a message saying "Incomplete Restoration." I know this topic has been posted before, and I tried using the advice given in this thread I disabled AVG Anti-Virus, but I didn't help. I know from the previous thread that you'll need to look at the system restore logs in order to help; so, I'll just post those now to save time.

On my desktop, all programs function fine. On the other desktop for the other user, when a program is launched, it opens up as a blank program window. IE opens fine, but other programs such as McAfee and other certain Microsoft Office programs will open but not fully execute.

The msconfig screen opens but as soon as I move my mouse the entire box just leaves the screen. Regedit is doing the same thing. Cannot find any information on this in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

To do it without using the cd it has to copy the installation files to the computer and then run them. When setup does this it creates a new choice of an operating system to boot from called "Windows XP Setup." So now I have a Windows XP and a Windows XP setup. I've been in msconfig and looked at boot.ini but that didn't help

When I do Ctrl+Alt+Del it opens the Task Manager instead of the Windows Security window(where you can change password,log out, open the Task Manager ect.)

I have tried again and again to get it to stay on and checked, all to no avail. I don't understand why. At the desk top I right click anywhere to get to very small window with (properties) at the very bottom. I then click on Properties and get (Appearance). Next I click on appearance tab to get to the window that has the (Effects) button. Next, I click on the effects tab and look to see if the little bitty square next to (Show Window Contents While Dragging) is checked. And it is never checked. So I check it to get the effect of dragging the contents with the window as I move it around the screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm haveing multiple problems with my laptop and its pretty bad.First of all the wireless conection breaks all the time and it says that Wireless zero configuration utility needs to be restarted. So i have to go to Run; %SystemRoot%/system32/services.msc s and restart it. But it just goes out again after a few hours.Windows Firewall will not open. It says; "Windows firewall setting cannot be displayed becasue the associated service is not running." I click ok and it says" Windows cannot start the widows firewall/Internet connection sharing (ICS) service.Windows defender cannot update. It says its trying but then fails and it dosnt display the problem long enough to write it down here. My sound is no longer working. Im about to just give up and reformat and re instal everything. Unless anyone thinks i have a hardware problem

He boots up his computer, to go to the screen where it gives him 5 choices to start his computer: start windows normally, safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, last good known configuration, etc. No matter which one he chooses though, they all give him the same result. He sees the windows logo with the bars loading up XP but shortly after that he gets a Blue Screen of Death for about a second (not long enough for me to see the error), then it goes back to the Boot options I listed above. Not exactly sure where to go when I am trying to help him at the moment. Usually, I can get the BSOD error and go from there, but this time I'm stuck because I can't see the error in time. At the moment, I have limited computer specs. from him (pretty sure its a dell) but other than that, not much else.

One problem im havinf is that i cant go to any web pages. so i have to do all this then bring the results to work so neeedless to say its taking some time. well anyway i was wondering since my computer is pretty new would it be ok to save the few things i wanna keep on a flash disk and reformat and reinstall windows media center edition? Or would last known good configuration do the trick (get all the crap off)?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've created a new user account for my other half and it all works fine EXCEPT for the fact that any URL which doesn't end in '.htm' or '.html' won't load in IE6. also have the google toolbar and none of the buttons seem to do anything (but I think this is related to my first problem). On my own account, everything works perfectly. I've tried as much as I can without ANY success (checking for viruses,
spyware, many settings etc.).
A simple, silly question but where is sign in on these pages? I can't find it and to be identified as the upright character I am I need to go to 'sign out' before I am recognised. What am I not seeing?
