Cannot Start Windows / Reboots To Boot Selection Screen Each Time

I am trying to help out a neighbor today who has computer related problems. He boots up his computer, to go to the screen where it gives him 5 choices to start his computer: start windows normally, safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, last good known configuration, etc. No matter which one he chooses though, they all give him the same result. He sees the windows logo with the bars loading up XP but shortly after that he gets a Blue Screen of Death for about a second (not long enough for me to see the error), then it goes back to the Boot options I listed above. Not exactly sure where to go when I am trying to help him at the moment. Usually, I can get the BSOD error and go from there, but this time I'm stuck because I can't see the error in time. At the moment, I have limited computer specs. from him (pretty sure its a dell) but other than that, not much else.

My computer used to have a dual boot of XP & Vista on a single hard drive with 2 partitions. I deleted Vista Partition and from a "Ghost image backup" i installed ONLY windows XP on a single partition. My problem now is; when the computer boots, It now stops on the "OS selection screen" for 20 seconds asking; Microsoft Windows Vista Earlier version of Microsoft windows( xp )Since Vista is not even on the hard drive how can i make this selection screen go away and default to Windows XP all the time?

Encountered a Blue Screen of Death error. The error stated that I should run Chkdsk and then proceeds to restart and bring me to the Windows boot selection screen (safe mode, last known good configuration, normally). No matter which choice I pick, it always leads to the BSOD then restarts. Since this is getting me nowhere fast, I want to just format and reinstall windows. I do not have my recovery CDs, and when I enter the BIOS to change the boot sequence I cannot change it so the CD drive is above the hard drive in priority. The reason it gives me in the bios is that "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system supervisor. Any ideas on how I can boot off the cd and reinstall windows from scratch?

When I boot WinXP it goes to the screen that asks you to select which use to log in as. I am the only user on my PC. Is there a way to get rid of that so Windows will just boot up automatically?

When i turn on,first Windows screen appears,then a blue screen blinks,then hp screen,then a blank page with cursor on the top left,then a screen with the message"we apologise for the inconvinience but Windows did not start successfully.there was a hardware or software problem.I tried to run it in Safe mode, Windows normally,last known configuration but no luck......Then someone suggested to Get into the Recovery Console by making a Recovery CD with ISO image but the machine is not responding to any of it.Is it with CD/DVD ROM drive or any major hardware problem???...I ran a self hard drive test and it seemed fine

I am trying to fix a friends computer my usual story. Once it gets to the user screen for user selection both keyboard and mouse stop working, its either they stop working or the computer freezes, i am not sure. Life still goes to the mouse as it still lights. The keyboad works fine in the bios but not at freezing point.

I went to try to install windows xp onto a computer that already had windows on it. I did not boot from the cd. To do it without using the cd it has to copy the installation files to the computer and then run them. When setup does this it creates a new choice of an operating system to boot from called "Windows XP Setup." So now I have a Windows XP and a Windows XP setup. I've been in msconfig and looked at boot.ini but that didn't help

I got a P5wD2 Prem MOBO with a Dual core 3.2 Pentium D 800mhz 64M CPU and some memory i forget 2gigs i think 667mhz cosair or something i dont think it matters.everything works fine and detecs perfectly in BIOS anyways i plug in a HD that "i am curently useing and typeing this info in from a difirent pc, so its working fine" as soon as the Windows XP screen apears the system Resets/Reboots

I've installed the same version of windows on both HD drives. Then I did format for one of the drives since there was a problem, but when I start my computer he asks me to choose which windows I wish to enter while one doesn't even exist, so any idea how I disable it?

I recently fixed my parents� computer and while I was at it I upgraded their OS from Windows Me to Windows XP Home Edition (no service pack). After I did I got the User Selection Welcome Screen at start-up asking me to select the account I want to use (even though there�s only one to choose!). This happened to me on my own computer when I upgraded XP Pro so I thought I knew what to do to get rid of it. I went to Kelly�s Korner (http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm) and used the �Add ControlUserPasswords2 To Control Panel� registry addon to get the User Accounts 2 icon.

I am getting a blank screen with a white pointer when I boot up my machine. And when I try to boot up safe mode it does the same thing only with safe mode written in the four corners. Could someone please tell me what is going on.

ok so here is the story i have raid 0 array 2 x 160 WD and my windows is installed on it i recently bought 2 x 640 Samsung F1 i built a new raid 0 array and i'm trying to move my windows instalation from one array to another I used Norton's Ghost Disk Copy method . And now when i boot from the new array windows stop right before the user selection screen .the thing is the computer doesn't stop responing .. i can still move my mouse but the user selection screen never show's up i tried reading the windows system log from the new partition with and little utility and it doesn't seem to be any thing wrong.I also tried booting from the windows cd but when it get to the part where is supose to detect hard drives i get the infamous x0000007B stop error

My Dell desktop will not boot up. I had closed the lid thereby putting it on standby when I tried to go back it was in a state of limbo, it wouldnt come on nor shut off. When I start my pc I get an option to either start Windows XP or to run Windows XP Setup. If I am not quick then it automatically selects Windows XP setup where it goes into the intial setup screens where I need to quit and re-boot the PC. There is nothing wrong with my pc and I have no need to carry out any setup tasks, what I want to do is to get rid of this option.

My computer starts up. It goes to the gateway screen where I have options to press f2 and f10. Then it goes to the screen that I don't know what to call where I have an option to press f11...something I'd like to avoid doing if possible. Then it goes to a new screen saying that windows couldn't start up and gives me 5 options: Safe mode, Safe mode with Networking, Safe mode with Command Prompt, Last known settings that worked, and Start Windows Normally. Last known settings that worked and Start Windows Normally both go to the windows loading screen, which loads for a bit, and then my computer resets. All three Safe Modes start running off system32 directories and stop at system32DrivesagpCPQ.sys before my computer resets.

It seems quite severe and I have no idea where to start.When power on my laptop, the screen comes up as usual asking me if i want to enter bios. the next thing i see on the screen, is it checking the cd drive for a boot device, at which point (if there is no cd in there) the laptop automatically restarts. I tried using the windows xp setup cd to boot, but that wont help, I dont want to delete everything on my laptop as all my work is on there! Ive tried using another boot cd (ultimate boot cd) but thats way to complicated, i dont know which utility to choose.I also dont have a floppy drive on my laptop, and im running winxp home edition.

On my comp, I could not reboot. Anyway I went(boot in safe mode,Last known...) the comp would just reboot and not go into Windows. I took the System diskl that came with it originally(2 years ago) and rep0aired the windows with the repair option instead of reinstalling windows completely. It worked fine, but i found windows to be XP service pack 1. I now updated service pack 1 completely and then updated to service Pack 2. Heres the prioblem. When Installing SP2 i kept getting Application errors for numerous Application stated below. On anyone of the Applications, the message was: instruction @ "ox5a00671a" referenced memory @ "oxff3fb084". The memory can not be "read".

My pc one day started to reboot all the sudden on its own. i didnt understand, so i took a virus check, adaware and spyware checks. nothing turns out- but then i took the virus check one more time, then when it reached the windows folder, it suddenly rebooted, and that happens almoste all the time when i reach the windows folder. I wanted to know how I could find out what the text was on my computer when it starts up for the first time. I start it, then the screen is blank, then some white text appears on a black background, but only for a few miliseconds. then the text disappears and the main 'windows' start up logo comes up, before the desktop finally appears and the computer is ready to be used. with my PC (described below) that was built about 1 year ago. Recently I loaded some video-editing software (Adobe Premiere Elements v4) to do some video work. I also loaded Pinnacle Studio 9 along with a patch, because it offers some nice features when capturing raw video. Shortly after, I began having a boot problem. The ASUS screen would come up as usual, but it would hang for maybe 30 to 50 seconds, and then a blank black screen would come up with the cursor blinking at the upper-left corner. Normally the ASUS screen is on for only 10 seconds or so, followed by the black screen for a few seconds, and finally the XP start-up screen.

I would get occasional freezes and random reboots, moreso than with my previously computer. It would usually take me three reboots to get the computer going well, but then it would be fine. I had done two clean installs of xp so I know the OS is fine. As mentioned, i had occasional xp shutdowns due to "device driver problems," but i could always get it going again. All drivers were up to date. Now i have it so that i can not even get into windows. After it gerts through bios, the windows loading logo comes up, then blue screen, and reboot. Everytime. Tried switching hard drive with another that has xp pro and same thing. Blue screen says usual suggest disabling anti-virus but can't even get into windows now.

This morning when I booted up, I got a blue screen that had a message telling me something about memory (I think, was still asleep). it told me to start in safe mode.I did that then turned off. When it started back up it was in the advanced options window. I selected "Start normal mode" I have tried to get it to do it again so I could get the codes but cant. I know it showed many partitions plus the message and codes. I am using XP Home with my Dell Dimension desk top. It uses a Celeron 2.53 GHz and 512 Ram. Thank You for any suggestions. Also I delete temp regulary and defrag every week or so but don't know anything other than that as far as maintaining system.

Each time I turn on my computer and as it is boots up it will delay for a time with a line that reads something like Automatic IDE Configuration and then a message that my date and time are incorrect. The date goes back to Nov. 2003. Once I correct the date, time and year things seem to perform ok.

I am trying to use the system restore function on windows XP, but every time i select a restore point and the system reboots, it says that the restoration was incomplete and "no changes have been made." I have tried multiple restore points. Microsoft.com suggested that i verify that the task manager, WMI, and system restore services were running, and they are. I also tried disabling my antivirus program, but the same thing happens.

Suddenly, today my computer won't boot up. It gets to where it displays the Windows XP screen, then for an instant there is a screen with some printing, but it goes too fast to read because the computer shuts down and reboots. It does this continually. I can boot up in safe mode so I went to add/remove programs in control panel and found two entries that I didn't recognize. I tried to remove them but they would not remove. Their names were ANIO Service and ANIWZCS2 Service. Keep in mind I was in Safe mode and logged on to a personal account, not the administrator account. I then went to Windows Explorer and there I saw a folder with the name ANI. Within that folder there were two more folders with files in them as listed below:
