I am getting a blank screen with a white pointer when I boot up my machine. And when I try to boot up safe mode it does the same thing only with safe mode written in the four corners. Could someone please tell me what is going on.

It will boot from the CD, copy setup files, partition the drive, and then Windows does it's automatic restart which it will do fine, but when it is restarted it says " Resuming setup...." and then the screen goes black and stays that way. This is an OEM Windows XP home CD from another Dell tower, is this the problem? Do I need a new windows XP CD?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi'm using windows xp service pack 2. i try to go to the windows update page and all i get is a blank white screen and on the bottom left hand corner of the screen, it says done. but nothing is there. if i edit the top url, i can go anywhere i want but just not windows update. i have no viruses, spyware, adaware as i have a thorough check of all and came up empty.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been having a boot up issue on my compaq presario sr1630nx. When I turn on the computer now it takes me to the boot screen where I press F2 and the little dash up in the corner flashes for a second or two...disapears...and then nothing...black screen. I then have to turn the computer off manually but when I turn the computer on again and it goes to the boot screen and I press F2 again and it takes me to the default start windows normally prompt.
I hit enter and then it boots up like normal and everything is fine with the world and my computer runs just fine until the next time I turn it off and have to turn it on again. Same routine at every boot. Was wondering if the brown out may have corrupted my boot.ini file somehow and if so how to fix it. My computer was on when the power spiked twice in a two minute period then was off for a couple of hours so it could be a hardware issue as well. I have Windows xp home edition
I have windows xp prof running and now when i turn on the computer it boots up, goes to the logo, and then the screen goes blank. The hard drive is still working, and i can go into safemode (f8) but every time i try to startup normally the screen just goes blank, the monitor says there is no signal. I have no clue how to go about resolving this.

The issue I am having is after startup or a reboot the computer goes through post and then I get a blank screen for 10-15 seconds. Then I get a serrated white load bar that runs the length of the screen at the bottom it takes about 3-5 minutes to load. Then I get the Windows load screen which takes about 10-15 seconds and then I get the account icons and everything is fine. I am not sure what this white load bar is from and it is really slowing down the boot times. The computer has gone through an upgrade and the issue still persists, which I expected. I upgraded the motherboard, processor, and video card.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using a custom built PC with retail bought Win XP SP2 installed.The PC is about 3 months old now and has run perfectly so far with 2 hard drives and 1 install of XP on the master drive (S-ATA). I redecorated the house and this resulted in the PC being unplugged for about 2 weeks. Havin just plugged it back in and tried to start it, I am getting through the POST stage and then I just get a blank screen with a flashing line at the top left. This used to happen with boot up but disappeared after about five seconds. This one just stays flshing forever.I was wondering if anyone would have any advice for me. If I haven't given any required details please ask and I will post them ASAP.

We bought another E-Machines computer (T6212) I networked the 2 with a Linksys Wireless - G Broadband Router. After that I loaded System Mechanic5 on both computers. After running a scan on the T2825, it told me that the hard drive needed to be de-fragged so I did it. Then, few days later, the T2825 started having problems when running programs on it. It would freeze up and the only way to shut it down was to disconnect the main power. After plugging it back in and turning the power on, it froze up just trying to open IE6.

Sometimes it starts normally from the beginning.It has an Intel Celron M360 processor (1.4 GHz, 400 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache) 40 BG HDD 256MB DDR, I've cleaned everything up. Should I try and repair? View 14 Replies View RelatedJust wanted to give a solution for an issue that I had on a Dell Optiplex GX270, where it was having problems hanging when a couple of peripheral USB items were plugged in. After I had installed an HP printer, I plugged in an 8Gb thumb drive. It would hang for a very long time until I finally had to reboot. When it went through the short Dell setup screen, it just went black with a flashing underline in the top left corner instead of going to the first Windows startup screen. The funny thing is that I would unplug the HP printer's USB cable while the computer was still powered, and it would immediately start Windows. Through several different test cycles I found that A) Leaving the printer USB cable plugged in during a restart brought up the blank screen w/flashing underscore. B) Not connecting the printer USB cable during a restart brought Windows up properly. That told me that there was a problem with BIOS. I went to the Dell website and flashed my BIOS with the latest update for my computer. That resolved the issue immediately.Hope this helps others resolve similar problems, because it seemed like there

In the other posts,this has occured on a modified computer, but when it happened to me, it was my unmodded computer. So heres what happened. I boot up, and after the HP screen, instead of going to the windows loading screen, I get a message with alot of text, but the main point was that "a failure was imenent", F1 to continue, F2 to enter setup. So i hit F1 to continue, and after a minute of a blank screen and the blinking text dash, the DISK BOOT FAIlURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK message. But I have never modified my coputer, and never used a setup disk before on this machine. BTW:I tried resetting BIOS, but to no avail.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to help out a neighbor today who has computer related problems. He boots up his computer, to go to the screen where it gives him 5 choices to start his computer: start windows normally, safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, last good known configuration, etc. No matter which one he chooses though, they all give him the same result. He sees the windows logo with the bars loading up XP but shortly after that he gets a Blue Screen of Death for about a second (not long enough for me to see the error), then it goes back to the Boot options I listed above. Not exactly sure where to go when I am trying to help him at the moment. Usually, I can get the BSOD error and go from there, but this time I'm stuck because I can't see the error in time. At the moment, I have limited computer specs. from him (pretty sure its a dell) but other than that, not much else.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install Windows XP as a second OS as I already have Windows 7 Ultimate installed. Unfortunately, after I select a partition, format it, and reboot the system stalls on the screen after the BIOS that has something to do with a list of devices and such. After 10 or so seconds a few characters and letters go blank randomly on the page. I rebooted and selected my cd drive as the boot device and accidentally didn't press a button in time to boot and a bunch of highlighted numbers were thrown all over the screen and a random smiley face on one of the lines.

On my desktop, all programs function fine. On the other desktop for the other user, when a program is launched, it opens up as a blank program window. View 3 Replies View Related this problem started out of the blue one day i turn on my laptop and everything is fine ... but once it gets to the "boot screen" (the one that has the windows logo and the loading bar) the thing turns slow and it stays on that screen for at least 5 minutes, after that, the whole windows startup takes another 5 minutes... to finally end up with a slow working computer. it's slow but it still works alright but once i try to open wmp or itunes to listen to music or even watch videos from Internet, the whole cpu usage goes to 100% and the song starts skipping and "lagging" and the computer works slower than usual.
Very similar to the following problem but i do not have a raid, and it seems that this PC has a raid and i don't, plus it was never really determined what the actual solution was.

The basics: XP Professional Boot up screen, right before the windows loading screen, or direct after the F8 Menu if you hit "Start Windows Normally..." it will just lock up, no HDD activity, blank screen. now BSOD, nothing.
All 3 safe mods work fine.
Ran chkdsk /r in recovery.
Ran proper fixboot procedure.
Went into safe mode and checked the event viewer.
The only concerning message i got was: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AmdK8
Fips
nod32drv
Formatting really isnt an issue since i can back up anything i need through safe mode. However its just the fact that the Windows gremlin has struck me again and i must defeat it once more.
I highly doubt this is a hardware issue as it is more of a driver/software issue.any help?
I was playing a game and I rebooted my computer. When i went to start it it went to the a blank blue screen before the account screen in the beginning of XP. I know i can restore to new but i will have lost so much information that it would take about 3 months to retain it all back. It says it can not find operating system. i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive
I have about an 2" black space around an open page on my screen......how do I get it to return to original full screen size?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI live 4 states away from my little brother, and his computer is in dire straights. When we boot it up, he gets a blank desktop, no icons, no taskbar, no start menu. If we attempt to access programs via task manager (ctrl alt del) then we get the "Task manager has been disabled by the administrator. I need to know where to start so we can begin taking care of this mess. We can get into safe mode, and task manager will let us in, but I'm lost after that step. I've had him run a couple of cracks that are supposed to fix the registry, but they dont help when we reboot into normal windows. Someone lend me a hand and let me know what we need to do.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThere are 2 accounts in my XP Pro SP2 machine, one has admin rights, the other is limited. When I log into the limited account then log off, Windows does not return me to the welcome/login screen, instead it gives me a blank screen (my monitor, which uses DVI, gives me "No signal"). Pressing any key will not wake the computer. The only resort is to press the Reset button. I expect this to be either software or hardware incompatibility.
