windows xp crashes every time i launch video. i'm thinking it's some kind of plug-in problem...maybe java? any ideas to fix? maybe reinstall internet explorer or can someone give me some kind of idea which plug-in to load?
View 2 RepliesI have quite a bit of initial background information that really now only boils down to a fairly small problem, but It is all relevant information. A few days ago my computer started getting stop error messages, usually while browsing internet explorer. Sometimes they would just shut down IE, other times completley crash windows, causing an immediate re-boot, rather than the blue screen of death. Anyways, it would boot back up, saying it recovered from a serious error, cause by a device driver, or stop error. One of the remedies it listed was trying to do a repair of windows XP, which I ended up doing. It was only after I did this repair that I realized remembered what was causing the errors
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever i open an explorer and right click on a file, it will terminate all open explorers as well as take down my launch bar (which will subsequently be rebuilt though). What i want to do is to delete a file, and it does not work with pressing delete either (same effect). But, as i said, the whole conext menu wont open. I am not really aware of newly installed programs, could be wrong on that one though.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi do scans quite a bit and delete alot of things everytime. there is the msn spyware thing that keeps coming back after i delete that, as well as many other things i dont even know about. some of my devices just shut them selves down from time to time (mouse, scanner/printer, and otherthings i cant remember but the key board is fine) and after a few seconds turn back on. and the whole thing just crashes sometimes. i did that scan thing but im not sure if i did it right.

Microsoft wouldn't give me any kind of answer. They just blamed it on the manufacturer. So, here goes: I've been trying for 2 days now to get the windows xp activation wizard to launch. I've tried the "accessories>system tools" shortcut, as well as the "run> oobe/msoobe /a" method countless times. Neither work. The pointer becomes an hourglass for 2 seconds like it's going to open the wizard, but nothing happens. I've opened the task manager, and sometimes the "msoobe.exe" process will appear for no more than half a second before disappearing
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis has been happening on and off while playing games and pretty well only then. I don't get any error messages or anything of the like, my computer just freezes and that's that. I've checked my video card for overheating by using the nVidia monitor program and it runs fairly cool, I guess i should double check what the numbers are under stress but I don't see any artifacts or other weird images on my screen that would suggest a dying card (i use a bfg 8800gts 640mb). My motherboard also runs pretty cool too so i would highly doubt it's a heating issue there either.just recently i had to replace the motherboard due to failure and i fear whatever is causing these crashes may have caused my previous motherboard failure and possibly this new one to fail as well.

Anyways I`m wondering if there is a way to stop this accourding to cnet the company that built this pc put a mac addition raidion in my computer and put win xp home on it. Definatly not smart, anyways this is a $5000 with good performance but its got terible stability for the price
View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery time I use winamp it freezes up on me after a couple of minutes. Also, if I try to use another audio application like soundforge or mediamonkey, the audio freezes up and I have to reboot. I have all the latest versions of these applications as well. I'm running Windows 2000 Sp4 PIII 1000ghz 256RAM - Compaq N160 with SoundMAX audio drivers. I've also tried to update sounddrivers, but there are none available from HP's website.

200 GB 7200RPM Serial ATA hard drive.Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 with up to 128 MB shared video memory.Thats whats on the front of my tower. So, the title of this thread is self explanatory. I just turn on the computer and after it loads, after the desktop appears and right around when the desktop icons are loading, it just goes blank and restarts itself. Last night I did an error check for the hard drive, and it didnt come up with anything. I actually went to bed while it was scandisk or whatever, and when I got up, the computer was in its neverending cycle of resterting and crashing. I can, however, load it in safe modes, like with networking; that's what I'm using right now.
I am having an issue with the search companion crashing every time in XP w/sp2. I have re-installed the search driver and ran SFC /scannow but the search companion continues to crash. There is no adware/spyware on the machine any Ideas of a file that may have been damaged?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been having a serious problem with explorer If i try and right click any file, explorer will hang, then my desktop and toolbar goes blank, the tool bar and desktop icons eventually return. The same happens if i left click the file menu button for explorer. Sometimes, (not everytime) a message appears telling me drwatson post mortem debugger has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. explorer.exe returns to the process list in task manager.

It says beginning dump of physical memory in a blue screen and counts up from 1 at the bottom of the screen. It takes forever so i Just restart the computer. I downloaded and installed a BIOS update, tried a different graphics card, tried different RAM chips, tried a different processor, and it still happens.

I am trying to delete a directory that crashes Windows Explorer every time I select it. I am trying to use the command prompt to delete the following directory: r:video projectsfreedom interviews I can change into these directories with the cd command, but if I try to erase or delete I get an error that the system cannot find the directory. I suspect this is due to either the spaces in the directory names, or the length of the names, but I can't figure out how to get around the issue.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a really wierd problem here. Whenever I open netscape, the window "lags" when it opens. The window kind of comes into view slowly, like its lagging or something. Samething if I open a word <ocument. When I scroll, little chunks move at a time and it all lags till I finally get where I want to be. Also, Half Life 2 won't load anymore. The wierd part is, It used to be fine, then out of no where this starts happening.

To do it without using the cd it has to copy the installation files to the computer and then run them. When setup does this it creates a new choice of an operating system to boot from called "Windows XP Setup." So now I have a Windows XP and a Windows XP setup. I've been in msconfig and looked at boot.ini but that didn't help

I can not boot up, all I get is the revolving screen of choices to either boot normal, boot in safe mode, boot in safe mode with logging etc. Any of the choices just brings me back to the same screen. If I insert my OS recovery CD, it wants to wipe the hard drive and start fresh.

I have called the PC Virus tech support line provided by Microsoft and they gave me a few different virus removal tools to try. I thought I had fixed the problems and brought the computer back to my friend. A week later it did the same thing. It went to Scan disk and began deleting files. I don't know how to stop this. It may be a virus embedded in the registry keys but am not sure. I really need to remove it from this computer.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 5100. Its sevice tag # is H65WK31. It's been running really slowly and had a bunch of stuff on it. When I tried to dfragment and stuff it shut down. In the end, I decided to just strip the hard drive and reinstall Windows XP (which is what it had.) The reinstallation went surprisingly well since I don't know the first thing about computers. At first it wouldn't play sounds or let me add or update Adobe flash or anything. I went into Device manager and found yellow exclamation points beside several thing and updated drivers and that fixed everything except beside Other Devices, it has the yellow exclamation mark. Underneath that, it says Video Controller (VGA compatible) and has a yellow exclamation mark beside it. It won't let me update the drivers. It says "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software." I have a CD that I may or may not have come with this DELL (I have several over the years.) It says it's from ATI. I tried to put it in and go through the cd to update the drivers. I get a message that says the same thing. When I got my computer, it seems like I had an upgrade on the video card, but all that was done before my computer left the factory. As it stands, I have a picture, but it looks like I'm in safe mode.

View 7 Replies View Relatedeasiest way i can capture video's off my DV Camcorder into windows movie marker and if i can, have it automatically split the clips up into 4.2 gig sized movies..(the reason being i have a movie thats 8 or 10 gigs long, and i want to cut it into slices that will fit just right onto a dvdr) there is a check box when your recording the movie that says "make clips when finished" or something like that and it just seems to split my movie in half i think? i'm not really sure...Also does WMM copy the information DIRECTLY from the tape digitally to the computer so what i have is an EXACT copy of what was on the camcorder? I have tried again and again to get it to stay on and checked, all to no avail. I don't understand why. At the desk top I right click anywhere to get to very small window with (properties) at the very bottom. I then click on Properties and get (Appearance). Next I click on appearance tab to get to the window that has the (Effects) button. Next, I click on the effects tab and look to see if the little bitty square next to (Show Window Contents While Dragging) is checked. And it is never checked. So I check it to get the effect of dragging the contents with the window as I move it around the screen.

If I reinstall on the 950GB side of the disk can I some how move what ever file tells windows that programs are installed to the new install? because now I'm out of space at first I thought that the 10GB would work if I didnt install anything on the windows partition but now I'm F-ed!
