Whenever i open an explorer and right click on a file, it will terminate all open explorers as well as take down my launch bar (which will subsequently be rebuilt though). What i want to do is to delete a file, and it does not work with pressing delete either (same effect). But, as i said, the whole conext menu wont open. I am not really aware of newly installed programs, could be wrong on that one though.

When I right click a file, windows explorer crashes and then recovers.
Right clicking on a folder works OK.
My OS is Windows 2000 Professional.
Crashes if I right click on my HardDrive icon to see the size.
I am building a new PC and had it running fine until I just noticed recently that whenever I right-click on the desktop to view Properties, Explorer.exe crashes hard and I have to reboot. The only thing I have installed recently is Office 2007 and SP3. Before I start uninstalling all of that I thought I'd ask the group if they have seen this recently. I searched for the error here and only found reports from pre SP3 users so I thought I'd ask first.

This happened after booting up my pc today (running XP Pro SP3).
I had a malware infection days ago and removed it almost completely (apart from random tabs popping up in Firefox).
Last night I ran O&O Defrag and it finished without any problems or errors.
I have a computer that quits explorer every time I try to click on the file menu, or right click on explorer and go to the new link. It also does this when i try to delete a folder in explorer or through my computer.

The same happens if i left click the file menu button for explorer. Sometimes, (not everytime) a message appears telling me drwatson post mortem debugger has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. explorer.exe returns to the process list in task manager.

A few days ago my computer started getting stop error messages, usually while browsing internet explorer. Sometimes they would just shut down IE, other times completley crash windows, causing an immediate re-boot, rather than the blue screen of death. Anyways, it would boot back up, saying it recovered from a serious error, cause by a device driver, or stop error. One of the remedies it listed was trying to do a repair of windows XP, which I ended up doing. It was only after I did this repair that I realized remembered what was causing the errors

Said some files weren't found and couldn't complete it. NOW I cant get it to load at all the only browser I can get to work is the one on my real player. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. The error message above is in the Application Event Log. the Event ID is 1000. Done some searches and tried a few things but still user gets this error. After this error in the Event Log another message is "The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted. The Event ID is 1002 for this one.

Both generate the same error: "Internet (or Windows) Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The details show that ole32.dll is the guilty module. So far I've had no success in locating a solution. I am using Windows XP Home Edition. I should also note that the control panel won't function either since it is basically part of Windows Explorer.

Which makes the computer useless unless you shut explorer.exe down in the Task manager and restart it. I haven't been able to see a pattern. It's almost completely random, from what I've seen. I've got Service Pack 2 and all patches from Windows Update, plus any I could easily find for the motherboard.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout 3 minutes after boot up explore takes up 99-100% of the CPU. I go to task man (ctrl-alt-del) and go to the processes tab and turn it off. The CPU % goes to 0. Then I go to the aps tab and hit new task and turn it back on. In about 3 minutes we are back to 100% of CPU. I now run all my aps through task man but I need to use explorer to move my files around from one folder to another. How do I get explore to stop doing this. I run the virius scan but can't find anything.
