I am having problems with installing new programs that require Windows Installer. Apparently, msiexec.exe crashes each and every single time I use Windows Installer, and the moddll responsible for this was ntdll.dll.
View 14 Repliesi do scans quite a bit and delete alot of things everytime. there is the msn spyware thing that keeps coming back after i delete that, as well as many other things i dont even know about. some of my devices just shut them selves down from time to time (mouse, scanner/printer, and otherthings i cant remember but the key board is fine) and after a few seconds turn back on. and the whole thing just crashes sometimes. i did that scan thing but im not sure if i did it right.

My computer crashes alot but I`ve only kinda got it under control acording to microsoft it was a problem with my raidion 9250 but now its jus a device driver witch I still believe is the raidion. Anyways I`m wondering if there is a way to stop this accourding to cnet the company that built this pc put a mac addition raidion in my computer and put win xp home on it. Definatly not smart, anyways this is a $5000 with good performance but its got terible stability for the price
View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery time I use winamp it freezes up on me after a couple of minutes. Also, if I try to use another audio application like soundforge or mediamonkey, the audio freezes up and I have to reboot. I have all the latest versions of these applications as well. I'm running Windows 2000 Sp4 PIII 1000ghz 256RAM - Compaq N160 with SoundMAX audio drivers. I've also tried to update sounddrivers, but there are none available from HP's website.

I just turn on the computer and after it loads, after the desktop appears and right around when the desktop icons are loading, it just goes blank and restarts itself. Last night I did an error check for the hard drive, and it didnt come up with anything. I actually went to bed while it was scandisk or whatever, and when I got up, the computer was in its neverending cycle of resterting and crashing. I can, however, load it in safe modes, like with networking; that's what I'm using right now.
I am having an issue with the search companion crashing every time in XP w/sp2. I have re-installed the search driver and ran SFC /scannow but the search companion continues to crash. There is no adware/spyware on the machine any Ideas of a file that may have been damaged?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been having a serious problem with explorer If i try and right click any file, explorer will hang, then my desktop and toolbar goes blank, the tool bar and desktop icons eventually return. The same happens if i left click the file menu button for explorer. Sometimes, (not everytime) a message appears telling me drwatson post mortem debugger has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. explorer.exe returns to the process list in task manager.

It says beginning dump of physical memory in a blue screen and counts up from 1 at the bottom of the screen. It takes forever so i Just restart the computer. I downloaded and installed a BIOS update, tried a different graphics card, tried different RAM chips, tried a different processor, and it still happens.

windows xp crashes every time i launch video. i'm thinking it's some kind of plug-in problem...maybe java? any ideas to fix? maybe reinstall internet explorer or can someone give me some kind of idea which plug-in to load?

I am trying to use the command prompt to delete the following directory: r:video projectsfreedom interviews I can change into these directories with the cd command, but if I try to erase or delete I get an error that the system cannot find the directory. I suspect this is due to either the spaces in the directory names, or the length of the names, but I can't figure out how to get around the issue.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new laptop from someone. The hard drive was bad so I replaced it with a new 80g segate one. I loaded Windows XP SP2 on a disk I had burnt as a backup. Lots of time when I install stuff it suddenly just quits out of the installer.
When I try to install Office XP the install quits and I get a error with the msiexec.exe install
I have tried updating to version 2 of the installer and also have done the microsoft updates for the os. Im not sure why im still getting the errors, possibly the msiexec.exe didnt install right? If so is there a quick fix for this or should redo the OS?
I have this bothersome msiexec.exe which automatically starts after each reboot without installing anything, is there any way to know which file it is accessing to install so that i can delete it ?!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI started getting browser and sometimes PC crashes. At first it seemed to be browser related. But the PC would also crash when idle. I tried disabling add- ons in Firefox and opening in safe mode. Tried using Chrome but it would crash with the message that Flash had malfunctioned. Then I started getting Stop messages and BSODs.I hadn't installed and new hardware and, I don't think, installed any new big programs except for updates to existing ones.
I emailed a few of the mini dump files to a friend. He said they didn't specify which drivers were causing the problem. But it might be something to do with the video or the network card. I rolled back drivers. No change. I updated drivers and uninstalled lots of programs. For a month everything seemed stable. Then the BSODs started to return. Infrequently at first but then more regularily. Sorry the story is a bit confused but it is difficult to remember every detail of what happened and the order I did things in.
Each time I turn on my computer and as it is boots up it will delay for a time with a line that reads something like Automatic IDE Configuration and then a message that my date and time are incorrect. The date goes back to Nov. 2003. Once I correct the date, time and year things seem to perform ok.

Specifically, DST will start three weeks earlier (2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday in March) and will end one week later (2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November). Thus, Microsoft is releasing an update to address changes that have or will take place in several countries. When I click on the time on the bottom right hand corner, and under the Internet Time tab, I can't syncronize the time using both time.windows.com and nist.gov servers. When I use the Windows server, it gives this error message: "An error occured while Windows was syncronizing with time.windows.com. The time sample was rejected because: The peer's stratum is less than the host's stratum."

I would think, from what I understand of preemptive multitaking, that worse case, Windows should just slow down, but now freeze like I see it do. View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently put together a new PC - AMD X2 4800 / Nvidia 8800 GTS.For the most part it seems fine (just played through the first hour of HL2 / Episode 1 with full details etc and no issues at all), however, when i'm just idling around the windows desktop, browsing, shifting files around etc, I frequently get a complete lock up.During these lock ups the keyboard becomes unresponsive, the display stops updating etc, but the mouse cursor still moves in a laggy sort of way, for a few minutes until a BSOD flashes for an instant and the PC reboots. Eventviewer has a few offers on the subject. problems with the i8402prt driver failing to load, which would appear to be keyboard / mouse related somehow.

I monitor calls on a site--I call up popups that contain the calls--I go along fine and then out of no where the windows freeze up and I cant get out. Then i get the "IE needs to close"I have been working on this site for 3 years now and never had a problem. I do this at my day job too and I haven't had any problems. I am running Windows XP, Serv Pak 2, IE7 and Bellsouth DSL FastAccess Extreme

I've had some problems with IE crashing. I have Windows xp with sp2 installed. I went through the error report and most contain a problem with mshtml.dll. I got the windows web site and it said that there is some problem with sp2 in this case and they have a hot fix. But it looks like I would have to pay $99 bucks to contact microsoft and get it.

I was contaminated with several trojans/worms/etc but I think now I clean, since i already run Spyware Dr. and Spybot. I also already run Trend micro online clean and I have avast antivirus installed.
