I went to pc pitstop and did a test on my computer. Everything seems to do ok except for the internet connection. What is bandwidth and ping. Here shows the results of mine Gotta love computers.lol What should this be?I have windows XP and connect via cable.I thought adding memory made it faster but when i load some web pages it's not.

Right after my computer is finishes booting, suddenly there's a prompt telling me that Internet Explorer wants to change my Internet Protection settings. Then it asks me if I want to give IE permission to change these settings. Of course not (I think?). And the problem is still there. I connect with Verizon DSL, but when I go on Internet Explorer, the browser doesn't work properly- it says "Web Page Unavavailable While Offline"- what's up with that?! I even checked the status of my connnection- "Connected"! It's just retarded.

View 7 Replies View Relatedmy cable is not working properly.Every 15-20 minutes my internet connection is broken even though the modem is online and there is no problem with the cable coming into my house. I have to reset the cable modem and then it works for another 10-20 minutes until the next cut. Ive had this problem before (last time i changed computers) but cant remember how it was resolved. I already talked to my ISP support but these guys are brain damaged or something and cannot even comprehend my problem and all 3 actually concluded that i had somehow contracted some killer virus immediately after connecting my computer and this virus was the root of my problems

I have recently reinstalled Windows XP home due to corruption of files but previous to that my internet connection did not work. However, since the install i have been unable to establish a continuous connection. It starts and stops for no reason at all. I have been online and it loses connection saying there is no dial tone. A connection can be lost/found for no particular reason.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy problem is is when I booted my comp up yesterday, norton comes up with some odd error about not being able to scan e-mail or instant messenger for viruses, and my internet on just this computer will not work. Now this happened with my other comp when the hard drive was failing. The computer will also at some reboots take forever to get into windows.Sometimes when I try to get into network connections or my computer, it will just hang or I get the flashlight icon scanning. I was able to back up most of my stuff, but when I tried to reformat, it kept saying to close all windows and I ended every program I could think of.I also tried a system restore to Saturday when it was working normal, but I have had no luck. Is it something with windows or is another HDD going? I'm thinking of just RMA'ing the HDD and do a whole new install. My only other option is to use a Linux Suse disk I have and boot from that and see if it works. View 9 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden my Dell laptop (just over a year old, go figure) has started acting funny. Here's some of the issues that started happening all of a sudden -It runs super slow at times and freezing up, svchost.exe seems to be taking a lot of resources up when that's happening -The memory card reader doesn't work. It makes the noise that a new device has been recognized when I put one it, but it never shows up in My Computer. The memory card reader does appear to be working properly in device manager. -Both firefox and IE aren't loading some sites. I'm connected to the internet and some sites load just fine and others never seem to load- and it's not that the site is down. The list of sites I can't access I'm starting to discover is big, and which sites can be access and which ones can't doesn't seem to follow any pattern- I can access google & gmail, but it won't perform a search (either from the page or from the search toolbar in both IE and firefox). I can access and log into my banking sites, ebay, and other random sites (some secure, some not). But I can't access weather.com, the Neosmart forums, the Dell community forums, dell.com, and others. I can access facebook.com, but I can't log on.
My first thought was I have some type of spyware even though I'm very good about not downloading stuff so I ran a ad-aware scan and it came up with nothing. I also ran a hijackthis scan and everything was normal there too. I'd been noticing recently that some windows processes in task manager are using what seemed like a large amount of memory. I then looked my other computer and on the problem one Explorer.exe is running around 99,000 - 120,000 kb- on my other computer it only runs around 14,000-35,000, that big of a difference between the two machines (both running xp- the problem one pro on a laptop, the other home on a desktop) is not normal...........
Two computers connected via a router , I already check if the work group is set and yes they are in the same work group by the same name but we are not sharing a printer or files, we don't have a home network set. Well the point is that sometimes I get disconnect from the internet but the other computer still works online, so I have to reboot or even start up again the computer. we already RESET the router but after that, I already get twice again disconnected need to reboot again, I am missing something that I oversee and its producing this disconnection.

When we change it back to 1280*1024 and then try to restart the computer, It restarts then it goes back to 640*480.

Normal boot shows the windows initial screen, but eventually just restarts, safe mode does the same thing whether it's with network, command line or plain safe mode. Last known good configuration does the same.Needed to use a file so decided to remove the HD and re-install to another PC. I did have access to the file in question but now I'd like to fix the problem.
The other system uses AVG. I started a scan and it detected Cekar.d (A0003977.exe, wdfmgr.exe and initially ntldr.exe), Dropper.Inor (ntdetect.hta, A0003979.hta), PSW.Generic5.ABVW (ctfmona.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.AAFI (ctfmonb.exe), PSW.Generic5.AFYK (ctfmond.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.ZWT (LotusHlp.exe) and some others but for whatever reason the scan stopped. I restarted it and now the AV still finds most of the threats it was seeing before but not Cekar.d. in the ntldr.exe file.
I have two pc laptops on one everything is great, in color and you can view everything as you would expect ie tab options and backgrounds. on the second (compaq presario 2200 laptop windows xp home) you cannot see tab options and internet page backgrounds, borders, tabs are all white and the text is in back or white text boxes (colour is also shown on the pages) i have tried to show axtive x etc and i do not have anything like norton oporating. i have been through nearly every setting but cannot work out why my laptop is veiwing its display like this and how to ammend it.

I have clean up the temp files, cache and have check for adware/spyware. I am directly connect to the cable modem so there is no interference with a router. My cable provider says there is no "packet loss" when they ping by IP. They suggest that it is something to do with my PC any suggestions?

It was an Add-Ons problem but I can't seem to fix it.When I am in the original window of Internet Explorer and I click on a link that opens a new window. When I want to close the new window it will close down all of Internet Explorer and leave a Blank Page. Then it will want to report the error. It did not used to do this. It seemed to have started happening about the time I upgrade IE and they started the new tabs. I work online and I need it to stay open. I also need to be able to close those extra windows so i don't have to many piling up. It is really bogging down my work.

to create their dialup connection to the internet, I couldn't.I went into the 'Internet Connection Wizard'. Told it that I was connecting directly to the internet. Then I told it I was going to set up the connection manually. But whenever the option comes up to setup a dial-up or broadband connection, the dial-up option is greyed out and unselectable.In device manager, it shows my modem as being fine. It's installed with no conflicts.
.My problem is this... When I have multiple pages open I can't close just one. If I close one of the pages an error message pops up that reads "internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" with the options "debug" , "send error report" , and "don't send".

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm getting this perpetual lag issue. Windows folders and internet pages load slowly load slowly, and the mouse cursor responds to clicks when it feels like it. I've checked the mouse, and that's not the problem. I checked Task Manager and downloaded Process Explorer, but I never see more than 15% usage at a time. I've also run AVG for viruses/malware, but nothing comes up. I've had similar problems before, when a piece of hardware died, but so far I can't find any conflicts.
View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen I start IE6 it just hangs on a white screen. I have SP2 and I've removed and reinstalled IE6 a couple of times but it doesn't help. When I launch IE it just hangs attempting to load my homepage (google) but I can press stop and access Options etc.. Firefox and all my other programs that access the internet are working fine but I need IE working too.I can't even access my router control panel via IE which makes me think this is a IE networking configuration problem. I've tried flushing dns but that didn't help.

Recently moved and had a DSL connection of 3 years no problems. Had to switch to cable broadband. The lights all light up solid no problem. Network cable connected to no problem. Problem : NO internet
Unplug netowkr cable from cable modem (get the network cabled unplugged in windows, so it is seing the modem or atleast talking to it)Tried using the windows xp network srtup wizard. I did that hub one (connected thourhg a hub) and i tried the direct connection (goes from modem to computer).
After long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.
