Multiple Internet Explorer Processes Appearing
Apr 6, 2005
I've been noticing some strange problems with my win2k box recently. If I go to the task manager, I notice I get multiple IEXPLORER.EXE processes appearing, some taking a good quantity of RAM over. If I try and end the process it comes back after a second and grows in file size. I've read some other threads and have HijackerThis 1.9, I can't see anything suscpicious in the log, but I'm a novice at that sort of thing. Also I checked for trojans etc and other files/folders but could see anything obvious.

IE started acting funny in that it started displaying text very small. For example, on this very site's homepage, under Tom's pic in the welcome section, the text is very small. It used to be very clear and readable, but now its a real strain on the eyes. Its happening on all pages, not just this one.

I just noticed that I have 2 Internet Explorer Processes in the task manager as IEXPLORER.exe Why is it in all caps now? I have never seen it this way before I always use FF so I don't know if this is how it is but it opens 2 IExplorers as soon as I enter windows. Does this mean I may have a virus or something?

I have reset IE, changed setting and my IE will only open one window and not allow me to go back. Every time I try to open another IE window the original window becomes the new one. I don't have any virus or spyware, I have checked for all that.

My internet connection is working fine. I have the checkbox for don't display whether connection is connected or having problems. But something weird is going on. After I come back to the computer after a while, there are multiple local area connection icons in the systray indicating that there is a cable unplugged. But my internet is working and I can't find any other local connections in network places. The other weird thing happening with those little icons in the systray is that when I try to hover over them with the mouse to right click on them to see where they are coming from, they vanish as soon as I hover over them. There will be a row from 2 - 6 of them, they al vanish as I hover across the lot of them.

I'd like to create a .bat which closes multiple .exe processes just by opening it: 1. I open the file from my desktop 2. File closes for example svchost.exe and explorer.exe and finally the file itself. This is because I don't need some programs, which open when Windows starts, every time.

Had major trojans, spyware, etc. Ran Malawarebytes removed all beautifully except when I rebooted, I have nothing on my desktop except the wallpaper. When I right click on desktop, nothing. Can access Task Manager and get to files that way but no way to activate desktop. What has happened here? Also, nothing on desktop when I go into SafeMode.

I'm running XP on a sony vaio laptop. I accidentally agreed to some prompt while browsing the internet and next thing I knew, popups everywhere and the screen froze. Everytime I restarted, I couldn't do anything but access taskmanager or msconfig. I had excess of 65 processes running. After starting in safemode and uninstalling a bunch of malware (still have command.exe on there that I can't delete and I know nail.exe still present) I can actually do stuff like open IE although I can't use it. At one point I found the app kill32 and ran it because I figured it couldn't get any worse and after that it stopped freezing on startup. Now there is this weird DLL error that comes on when I reboot. Anyways, is there anything specific that I should look for and can eliminate manually? I don't have any anti-virus progs or anything like adaware.

When I have explorer open, iexplore.exe AND explorer.exe use up a great deal of memory.
When I am not connected to the internet, explorer.exe is still running. Also, at times their are multiple svchost.exe running. About 6 of them. It is not debilitating, but it is annoying. Can anyone tell me more about these three processes and possible ways to go around them?

Alright this is really damn annyoying, the pc runs incredibly slow, when I look in task manager, explorer.exe is using 97% of the CPU, so I end the proccess and start a new one, then winlogon.exe runs at 97% CPU usage and this proccess can't be ended, and I noticed there are multiple "svchost.exe" about 5 actually, I even reinstalled the operating system about 3 times and the computer still has the problem. I looked all over the internet and I can't find anything that can solve this. I have the log from HijackThis:

I know you can either hover over a folder in Explorer or right click, click properties and get the folder size - but what I want is a fix or utility that allows me to see multiple folders, ala Explorer, and see their size displayed - the way it does for individual files on the DETAILS setting

For some reason, windows explorer has started locking up when I open a folder with many video clips in it (pretty much any folder with more than 50).I have a feeling that this is a codec problem, but I've installed pretty much every codec I can find and I'm still getting the problem.

At any one time I have approx 60 processes running, even after just booting up my computer. Although I am not a computer expert, this seems like too many to me. I was wondering if anyone could help me by telling me if this definitely is too many to run at once, and if there is some way I can post a list of the running processes and have someone with more knowledge help me get rid of some of them.

Win Xp, Dell and cable connection When I do ctrl>alt>del, it shows 17 System processes running. Are all of these necessary? Also, some of the other running processes i recognize, i.e. firewall, IM, anti-virus, but some of them I don't have a clue what they are. Is there a list somewhere of what should/shouldn't be running necessarily?

My pc is so slow that it takes ages to play a song in wmp11. Ive used tools like ad-aware and registry mechanic, tune up utilities. But still no improvement. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

I badly need your support. Day before yesterday (01-Aug-06) night I upgraded the yahoo toolbar and used their norton anti spy to scan. Then I shut down the system and started to work the next day. Every thing is perfectly ok except for one thing. In Windows Explorer, on any folder or drive if I double click or open I get a crash. If I do explore then there is no problem.
