Sep 1, 2009I have an intel pentium 4 running on windows XP.My computer is terribly very slow! I have performed full scans with mcafee, but I might have malware or viruses.

Real SLOW Start Up, Running Slow, No Internet
May 30, 2007computer (WinXP SP2 - 1GB RAM) just started in the last day or two to load really slow -- it takes a good half hour or more to get to the point where you can click on an icon and it takes a few minutes to open. Don't even ask about the internet. it did not download anything in the last few days and has no idea why this is happening.

May 10, 2010Lately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank

Jan 29, 2008My IE7's been running really slow starting this past week. I don't know what the cause is exactly. I can't figure out if it's the IE software on the PC or if it has something to do with the internet connection. I've run the following to diagnose my problem: NAV 2007 - No Viruses Webroos SpySweeper - No Spyware Optonline speedcheck Utility (when I can get it to run) - the results are very good 13-15mbps down and ~1.5mbps up. I would've posted this last night, but I couldn't get the page to load and even the optonline homepage sometimes wouldn't load. Also, I've noticed that images aren't loading onto the web pages. Just getting a box with an "x" in it. Don't remember if that is an IE security setting that i just need to allow or a an invasion to my system. I reset the IE7 settings to clear anything within IE, but that just made me lose my settings and IE still ran slow and inconsistently. I've checkd the ADD/Remove list and the list of folders within the program files folder and I've found nothing bad has been installed on the sly. Not really sure if this is a problem with optonline's signal or if I've gotten something on my PC that just isn't getting found by NAV and spysweeper. I'm trying to hold off on restoring my system image file, but if I must. I'd like totry to diagnose this if I can.

I've had a new mainframe installed, new hard drive and recently had a guy come over with a windows xp disc to repair some windows file..Ever since then the computer has been running slow. When I click My Computer, it takes a few minutes just to load it up. When running WMP the computer slows down dramatically, especially in full screen. This was not an issue before this repair was done. Also, under my documents and settings there is 'all users', 'default user', 'owner' and 'Owner.OWNER-C96F31C52.000'.

Mar 5, 2007Some days it will run perfectly fine, but most of the time it's so slow, and freezes frequently. My comp is slow with programs (especially opening) and also on the internet. Aso, my processing light is always on, no flicker, just a solid light. I usually get frustrated and shut it down. I've ran a lot of anti-spyware, defrags, and disk cleanups. MSMSG.EXE which i assume is microsoft messages of some form but no message is actally on screen the other is VSMON.exe which is part of the Zone lab firewall, they only activate sporadically and when I am on the Net but they show cpu usage at 80%+ so everything freezes. When they are not active the cpu runs at around 15%.
Internet Connection Equals Slow Start Menu?
Jul 24, 2005This one of the stranger things I've run accross and I'm having difficulty figuring it out. When the computer is connected to the internet via a DSL modem the start menu runs extremely slow. When the modem is off it acts normal. The computer is not mine but a colleges who has asked me if I've run accross this before and I'm a bit dumbfounded. He has adware and norton anitvirus running. Hasn't found anything on his computer.

Start System Load Files Slow
Jan 15, 2009Started having issues last week, very very slow loading XP , then once loaded it would freeze take forever to get going again, opening programs files etc took forever, loaded in safe mode last night backed up as much as i could, at some point the comp. shut up and tried restarting, now windows won't load at all, either in safe mode or normal start up, i know a little bit about comps not enough to know if im completely ed or not, or if there is another way i can at least back up my Hard Disk or reinstall windows on my other Hard Disk and back up the orginally Hard Disk that way.
