I was told by Lenovo that one slot will accomodate 1 gig of memory, instead of using 2 half gig sticks.I was also told about something called "memory boost" as an external memory source to increase memory. has anyone heard of this? I want to run PhotoshopCS and need 1 GIG of memory and don't want to get new motherboard(the machine is long out of warantee).
when i plug in a usb 2.0 device into any of the slots, it works perfectly for a while, but then i hear that 'usb device unplugged' sound, followed by 'usb device plugged in' sound. after that, the transfer speeds become miserable, which is why i assume it switches to usb 1.1. i'm using win xp pro sp2 and latest ati drivers for the southbridge
This is the strangest thing I've seen in the past 10 years of using computers. I have an Acer Aspire 7535-5020 laptop that came with windows 7, but I'm very picky and I wanted Windows xp back so I went onto Acer's website and downloaded all of the windows xp drivers and then formatted the laptop to Windows XP with intergrated Service Pack 3.The computer works just fine except for one very strange oddity - the USB mouse I'm using only works when plugged into the first USB slot, it will refuse to work in the other 3 USB slots.I'm using a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 USB which is my favorite mouse and I have 3 of them at home. When I was formatting the laptop
I have just purchased a Campaq Presario laptop v3607TU. It came with only "FreeDos" installed. If I boot up, it goes to the c prompt, and I can see call the directories on the hard drive. inserted my Windows XP bootable disk into the CD/DVD slot, and restarted. It booted from the CD, and the setup files begin to be read. Then I get a message that says, Setup cannot find any hard drives on your computer. The only option is F3 QUIT.
My log in name doesn't really do my novice pc skill justice. I am actually dumber than a PC spare. I decided to leave the stone age sort of and bought a copy of windows xp home to extend the life of my POS just a couple more months. I didn't want to buy a new computer and got a deal on a copy of xp home. I am planning on buying components and building a system from scratch soon, but for now just needed to keep going. Several of the sites I like to frequent recently upgraded and no longer support ME. The copy of xp I received turned out to be an OEM Windows XP Home w/ service pack 2.Like a moronic bozo I set my IOLO Drivescrubber into motion and whiped my HD clean. I didn't change anything in the bios as one: don't know how to and two: afraid to. Once the drive was clean however it failed to recognize the cd rom of xp. I then remembered I had to format and partition the drive in order for it to do so.
I just got a new custom computer with a ECS Kt600 Mb, AMD 2200 XP, Maxtor 80gb hdd, 512mb pc2700. Everything work great but when I tried to hook up my HP V40 all-in-one printer (USB cable), it will not recognize it at all. I changed cables but to no avail. I checked the ports and it recognizes my pen drive when I plug it in.
I reloaded Windows XP Pro I was asked to activate, which I didn't do at that time. I lost my Internet connection and sound at the same time. I did a phone activation and I thought it went thru. I had a message to activate. I did the phone activation and was told DO NO RECOGNIZE THIS AS A VALID PRODUCT
Ok guys my problem is also involved with video games. I tried to install Steam (a program that runs Sierra games such as Counter-Strike) but when i try to install it this thing pops up "You do not have access to make the required system configuration modifications. Please return this installation from an administrators account." Ok guys I also tried to install this game "World Of Warcraft." I tried to install both these games but the computer keeps blocking! When i try to insteall Steam that note pops up (see above). When i try to install World Of Warcraft, the nstallation bar stops and remains at the middle. I left it installing for the whole night last night. When i woke up the bar is still at the middle , like 50%. Ok so anyway, all of this is because of the Administrator access problem. I have checked other topics that relates to this problem but it didn't solve my problem
i have always been the administrator on my computer. now it does not recognize me as that...actually it doesn't show anyone as the adminisrator. it shows my account as limited
I installed a wireless adapter, it worked for4 days , then XP gives an error that 'xpdoes not recognize the item connected to the usb and that it has malfunctioned. I replaced the wirless adapter 3 times and even went to another vendor and it still says that. It claims that there is no driver, but when I install the software it says the driver is there. IF I delete the unknown device, it puts a driver in but the unit will not even light up.
I ran a registry cleanup fromlinksys and it was suppose to get rid of all the drivers but it still does not work. I changedto Netgear and it does the same thing.
I have a primary drive (maxtor) whice xp is running on and a second hard drive (maxtor also) which i have been using for some time for storing files. i had windows xp home and everything worked fine for a long while. recently since i upgraded to xp pro, the hard drive icon for the secondary drive disappears from my computer. i even tried saving stuff to the drive from ms word or something and it is not recognized. usually a restart will solve the problem, but after i let the computer run, (till like the next day) it will happen again. i dont know yet what event causes it to dissapear. i sometimes use standby, but i dont think that is consistent with the problem
Im new in this Forum, but I'm pretty sure someone will be able to help me.It's been some tone now that my Windows Media player 11 doesn't recognize an audio cd or a video dvd and can't pay them. I get a weird message "Cannot find the file. If you are trying to burn, play, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted." All that for a single audio cd!.Auto play is checked on, any information from the Internet has been unchecked. I just can't find a solution.I run Windows XP Pro SP2, fully updated. I also have Vista Home Premium installed on another HD of my computer.
I recently ought an E-machines computer running XP MCE w/SP2. It has an AMD 3400 processor and 200GB HD and 1MB RAM. I had transitioned all of my files and applications from a Windows 98 machine using Aloha Bob's PC Relocater. Everything seemed to work fine, however, my USB ports will not recognize anything except my printer (no external flash drives or my digital camera - software is loaded onto the computer). I had contacted E-machines tech services and they asked me the usual stuff, like disabling the ports and restarting the machine, check the BIOS to ensure they are enabled, etc. Now they are suggesting I run a ''Non-Destructive'' System Retore. Naturally I will back up my files and apps on DVD, but my concern is will I be able to reload the apps to which I do not have disks for? Is there something elese I should do prior to running the System Restore (in SAFE mode??). Also do you think this will work and restore my USB ports?
I assumed when I bought my second Dell, I could just take my old floppy drive and slave drive from my old one & put it in the new one. However, the new computer won't recognize the floppy and the inputs on the back of the drive in the new computer are totally different than both drives in my old one. The drive I want to install is a Seagate Barracuda 120gb. It uses a 20 pin cable, but the drive (NCQ SATA)in the new computer has a much smaller cable input & I can't figure out how to install it. Any input? On a separate note, is there any way to connect two computers, such as with a serial cable, to read the drives on the second one (without using a router).
The XP Home System Restore has not and will not work since I installed the XP Home OEM ~2 years ago. I found an article at this site but did not write the file it told me to look for in msconfig. I looked for it there originally, after reading the article but could not find it in msconfig? What files have to be "turned on" in msconfig to have "System Restore" work? All settings that I have looked at (hard drive etc.) say that system restore is "on" and working but it will not let me create a restore point, and does not recognize any past "restore points" because they have not been created? Is there a "fix"? Let me know. If there is supposed to be a file in msconfig on the start tab, what is it and how do I get it there.
This problem does not occur in word or in word pad because they have their own right to left controls. however in excel or notepad even in explorer the computer refuses to recognize that I'm writing in a right to left language.I tried:uninstalling and reinstalling right to left support plus the right to left language reinstalling microsoft office even though it is definitely an operating system issue uninstalling and microsoft office.
Running XP Professional SP3. I am curious why Windows does not recognize an internal DVD ROM as a DVD? It sees it under My Computer as a CD Drive. But, if you put a DVD disc in the drive, then it sees it as a DVD..... THE DVD ROM is an LG Model GH22NP20.
After reinstalling XP due to some corrupted files, the software works OK now, but it does not recognize my display adapter, NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX440-8X. In the Device Manager there is no display adapter listed, and I am having trouble operating my scrolling and dragging features. NVIDIA is made by ChainTech.
I pluged in usb hub into computer, and everything was fine until 2 days ago. suddenly i get message that usb could preform better if pluged into USB 2.0 port.i tried everything and nothing happened. i tested usb hard drive plugged into hub, and it was very slow. when i pluged usb hard into computer it was normal.then i was mad and destroyed the hub. i bought new one. and same thing.
- Doesn't recognize the printer that's been installed for over a year
- Won't let me install another one
- System restore gives the error "System restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart your computer, and then run System Restore again." and restarting does nothing.
When i plug in my pen drive into my computer, i open My computer where i can see it, but when i try to open it, a message pops up saying "insert a disk in unit H:" or something like this. This message usually appears when there is no disk in that drive and you try to open it. but the pen drive is plugged in! not even mac os read the pen drive.
I recently reformatted the HD cuz of the viruses. The OS XP Pro is installed and working but the system does not recognize any network card. There is no separate network card but it is built in on the motherboard. anyone can help how to go about finding the network card that is on the MB and then recognized by the system. So I could dl the drivers required for it.It is a HP SFF (small form factor machine).
My problem is that My Sprint DSL connection occassionally drops out. I'll be on a web site for awhile and then get a message window saying that I don't have a connection .I click "try again" and get connected again. In addition any other application that I use, like Quicken, says I don't have an Internet Connection - I click ignore and transmission over the Internet continues. As I said I'm using Win2k, the DSL connection uses a XYTEL 660 DSL modem/hub with 4 LAN ports and I have 3 machines connected to it. Two are using XP Home, 1 is using Win2k. If more info is needed please let me know.I've searched for any IE setting to change or DHCP settings on the XYTEL to change but I've come up empty.Fortunately it doesn't stop me from operating , it's just a real pain that keeps popping up
I have an old Compaq Presario 5360 with Sis 7001 PCI to USB controller. This machine was working GOOD, I could work with my USB web cam, USB drive, USB digicam and others MP3 players.I have reinstalled my WinXP with Service Pack 2.0 and now I CAN'T use any USB device, when I connect my USB drive this device is not powered, XP doesn't notify me for anything. simply this PC looks not to have any USB controller.I have an DELL Notebook, I can use my USB devices on it.I just reinstalled the OS in the same way how I did it before. I think is something about drivers, the control panel (System devices) tells me everything is good and my USB controllers are working correctly.
I recently had to uninstall my HP Officejet 5610. When I reinstalled my USB connection, an error screen tells me "the required section was not found in the INF." HP's diagnostic confirmed that the usb.inf file was in place but that the system was not accessing it, probably due to a digital signature issue. They said to reformat and reinstall WIN! I'm not techno savy to proceed, but a Windows reinstall seems extreme.
I have 2 sites that do not recognize the password (yes it's the correct one) I then request a new password which I type in but the sites do not recognize the password?
I just purchased an LG GSA-2166D external DVD burner. It is a USB 2.0 and when I plug it into my Windows XP computer it does not recognize it as the correct drive. Initially the drive showed up correctly and I loaded the software that came with it, but started having problems so I uninstalled the software and must have deleted something I needed. It now just shows up as a DVD-RAM or CD ROM drive and will not see anything on the drive. It gives me errors when I try to access it.Any help on what I need to download and reinstall to make this work?
Trying to help a friend whose XP system is running very slowly, it does not recognize any usb ports and will not connect to the internet. She is anxious to retain her photos. As she can't put any software on the system to check for viruses etc, the only thing I can suggest she does is to re-install XP. If she does not reformat the disk will her user data still be accessible?
