USB Mouse Only Works In First USB Slot - Won't Work In Other Slots
Sep 11, 2010
This is the strangest thing I've seen in the past 10 years of using computers. I have an Acer Aspire 7535-5020 laptop that came with windows 7, but I'm very picky and I wanted Windows xp back so I went onto Acer's website and downloaded all of the windows xp drivers and then formatted the laptop to Windows XP with intergrated Service Pack 3.The computer works just fine except for one very strange oddity - the USB mouse I'm using only works when plugged into the first USB slot, it will refuse to work in the other 3 USB slots.I'm using a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 USB which is my favorite mouse and I have 3 of them at home. When I was formatting the laptop
I got a new computer and I have been having problems with my mouse. I have a simple optical wired mouse. During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. To fix the problem I can control alt delete and exit the Task Manager, this fixes the problem.
My PC seems to be in a 2 minute beep pattern. After the beep I generally lose my mouse for a couple of seconds. I can live with the noise, I can't live with disruption.
I've rebooted and it still beeps. I've turned off the Google desktop, I've uninstalled a stack of applications that should have been gone ages ago. I've even found my 2003 startuplist.exe and run
I have a Logitech M305 wireless USB mouse that my XP won't recognize on any port. However MY XP recognizes my wired USB mouse and printer, and scanner. The M305 works fine on my other machines?
I have Java on my computer, but when I click on certain buttons to submit something on a webpage in IE, the webpages won't open. All my other hyperlinks will work when I click on them. I thought this was a java problem because when I put my mouse on the buttons to click them, I see a "javascript" code on the bottom bar of IE. I have set all the settings to "default" in IE. This only happens on the buttons that I hit when I am entering info for some online form, such as to book a ticket
Windows XP Home : My desktop boots only in safe mode and system restore fails. Last known good configuration doesn't work too. Normal boot falls in a restart loop. Can somebody help, please ? Problem created by malware (trojans, worms, etc).I use Avast antivirus.
Since I tried to install Norton Systemworks 2005 (uninstalled since),I can't run any javascript. When I click on a link that's suposed to execute a script, nothing happens. I tried to uninstall/install J2SE runtime 1.5. No change.

I have a friends PC, a gateway P4 2.6, winxp home. The mouse and keyboard up and died. He had a kvm switch, the electronic kind when it stopped functioning. I have tried usb, ps2 everything. The keyboard works on bootup, so I can get into bios etc... but when it gets to the windows screen, nothing. No mouse or keyboard. Safe mode is the same thing. Dont want to format and reinstall windows. On that note, I did try a repair, when it asks for admin password it wont accept it. Says invalid admin password.. The password IS windows admin password though. With no mouse even in safemode, and windows not accepting my admin password during repair,
All of a sudden my mouse and cursor seem to be working against each other. When I use mouse to point cursor at something the cursor remains in place. I have to keep moving mouse up and down and around in circles until cursor finally locks on and I can then point it to where I want to go. Needless to say this is really frustrating.
I got a new graphics card today. So I went to Add/Remove programs, and removed the Nvidia driver. I rebooted the PC as requested. After rebooting PC (keeping the same graphics card in) the black Windows logo screen took much longer than usual. Then when it finished so that I could click on my profile, I couldn't, the mouse nor the keyboard are functioning. I tried a different mouse and keyboard. I unplugged my computer and restarted, I tried in safe mode and the same thing. The keyboard works at the BIOS screen because I can get into the BIOS and select safemode as needed.
Basically I have run out of PCI slots now - I am not putting anything in PCI slot 1 as the heatsink of the X1600PRO arriving soon will overhang it making it a very tight squeeze. So my only options is a USB 2 DVB Tuner to simply receive DVB and HD Signals with AC-3 Sound. Meanwhilst I can use the Hauppage PVR-150 MCE which has the PVR plugged into its S-Video port to archive recordings from my cable PVR box into a movie file to edit out commericals later on and put onto DVD and free up the PVR so it can continue its series link!
I understand that MCE 2005 supports two TV Tuners so that 1 channel can be recorded from one tuner while another is watched from the other. However does MCE 2005 support two different brand TV Tuners (i.e. the Hauppage MCE PVR150 and a Leadtek USB 2 DVB Dongle) or do the two tuners have to be identical brand, model, etc. The Leadtek USB 2.0 is described as being compatible with MCE 2005.
System infoV2 : PREMIER, XP Home Edition, P4, 2.6Ghz, 448mb.Did a complete virus and spyware clean and system runs fine now while removing some stuff from ADD/REMOVE I MAY have remove a driver or two by mistake , now my system powers nicely but i do not have use of my keyboard or mouse.Booting in safe mode just wont go anywhere so what next
I recently bought a refurbished desktop , an older Dell with 512 Mb 20GB, Since it is very slow and weak I want to upgrade it. My problem is I don't know what those numbers really mean and I was thinking of doubling it. Can anyone explain what those Mb and GB mean and is it possible to fit the equipment needed into the unit I already have.
I was told by Lenovo that one slot will accomodate 1 gig of memory, instead of using 2 half gig sticks.I was also told about something called "memory boost" as an external memory source to increase memory. has anyone heard of this? I want to run PhotoshopCS and need 1 GIG of memory and don't want to get new motherboard(the machine is long out of warantee).
when i plug in a usb 2.0 device into any of the slots, it works perfectly for a while, but then i hear that 'usb device unplugged' sound, followed by 'usb device plugged in' sound. after that, the transfer speeds become miserable, which is why i assume it switches to usb 1.1. i'm using win xp pro sp2 and latest ati drivers for the southbridge
Trying to fix a relatives Dell Dimension 5100 c2005. Can only get to the welcome screen then keyboard and mouse wont work; both are usb of course as this Dell has no PS2 ports. I have loaded another copy of xp home and can boot into it ok and see the other installation ok too. From within this second copy of xp have run chkdsk and also have run chkdsk from (2nd XP Home CD) recovery consul.
My computer wasn't recognizing my CD-RW drive, so I opened up 'regedit' to delete the upper and lower filters from the drive. Well, I deleted the wrong filters. The next time Windows loaded up, it failed to recognize the mouse and the keyboard (!!!). So I basically have a paralyzed computer - I can't do anything with it. I know that reinstalling Windows would solve the problem, but I'm looking for a way to take care of this without losing all of my files. I know it's possible .
when I try to start puter first the mouse dont work any more. I had a Logitech MX 510. IT lights up but wont work. Installed a Radio shack mouse worked for a little it. Then it shuts down too. I try to start computer and tap on F8 key or DEL key sometimes it works an sometimes not if it works I am good for a little bit. 15min to 30 min then lock up. If i get into safe mode its ok until about the same 15min to 30 min. If F8 and DEL keys dont work It starts the process and then gets to floppy disk and fails. It say Floppy Disk Fail (40). I have checked and the fans are working and thats not a problem Hard drives work and 1.5 GB ram and thats ok too. So stumped and wondering if I can fix it or not.
Through out the day, I have my computer on. Many times... whether I am using the computer at that moment, or if I leave and come back later... my screen will be frozen. The mouse moves, but nothing on the screen can be clicked. Also, control alt delete works as well, so I have found that if I go into the applications tab and open a new task and open/refresh "explorer" everything will start working again.
I just resently updated XP.I havn't updated XP in a long time so there were quiet a few updates. After the update I rebooted XP.When I logged into my account and started using my keyboard the mouse would not move, and the keyboard would stop working. I would even push the caps lock or num lock keys to see if the indicator lights wold turn on/off, No. I have to use the on-screen keyboard to type.
Hello, I am new to this website, and need some serious help. I have a Gateway GT 5028 that is about a year a half old. I came home today to turn it on, and the only thing that happens is the fans both work, the cd drive lights come on, the power button light comes on, and the orange cpu light comes on. After a few seconds the cd lights flash again, and they repeat this process. The screen, keyboard, and mouse do not work. The monitor stays black the whole time. It has windows xp on it. I got it at Best buy, but it is out of warranty. It seems as if the computer continually restarts?
the problem is, my mouse and keyboard are not working in that OS, so i cant do a damn thing, so luckily i have another OS installed on the second partition (which is where im writing from right now) and i was thinking, maybe i can export that key, as a reg-file and then just click on it, fixing the whole issue. Bad thinking, because i have nothing to click it with, no mouse, no keyboard! And its saved, right there on the desktop!!!So to my question, is there any way to add that key to the other OS registry from this OS, or maybe is there a way to activate the export-file at startup or something? maybe with DOS?
I have just purchased a Campaq Presario laptop v3607TU. It came with only "FreeDos" installed. If I boot up, it goes to the c prompt, and I can see call the directories on the hard drive. inserted my Windows XP bootable disk into the CD/DVD slot, and restarted. It booted from the CD, and the setup files begin to be read. Then I get a message that says, Setup cannot find any hard drives on your computer. The only option is F3 QUIT.
I woke up one day (hadn't installed anything in the meantime) and was unable to drag any icons or folders. My mouse won't "pick up" any of them, on my desktop or within a folder. I can drag program windows around, so I don't think it's an issue with my mouse. I thought maybe a recent Windows Update had messed it up, so I uninstalled the most recent one, but it didn't do anything.
A friend of mine in a craft site created a document in WORKS. There were problems for others on that site opening it that have WORD and not WORKS. Is it necassay to have WORKS to receive WORKS files??
