Pro New Build Won't Recognize HP V40
Mar 21, 2005
I just got a new custom computer with a ECS Kt600 Mb, AMD 2200 XP, Maxtor 80gb hdd, 512mb pc2700. Everything work great but when I tried to hook up my HP V40 all-in-one printer (USB cable), it will not recognize it at all. I changed cables but to no avail. I checked the ports and it recognizes my pen drive when I plug it in.

I have been running windows XP SP3 and have been happy with it. But I was going to go with Vista on the new bulid (I can get it at a student discount) in order to have a 64-bit OS and have better access to memory. But this week's news has me convinced that I should should stick wiht XP until Windows7 comes out.
I do moderate gaming and lots of multitasking (many open windows, ITunes pumping to my home stereo, etc.)
So, here is are my questions:
-Is windows XP 64-bit even available anymore?
- If so, is it worth it to install the 64-bit version? (will the diferences even be noticable?)

possible for me to build a boot cd like BartPE cd, or Ultimate Boot cd, or 911cd, or make Windows bootable through my flash drive (through BartPE) when my Toshiba laptop came with Win XP Home SP2 preinstalled and an OEM recovery dvd, but not a separate Win XP Home SP2 installation cd?

I am wanting to use 32-bit XP pro on my new build but cannot get it to install.
This is to avoid dealing with XP x64 driver searches and I do not want to lose netmeeting and msconfig so I refuse to convert to Vista just yet. Also, I am not completely convinced my build is Vista ready. The 32-bit XP install BSODs after doing "loading all the setup files".I have ACPI set to DISABLE.The APIC option in the BIOS is unselectable and is set to ENABLE.
No, there are not any BIOS updates available for my MOBO.Yes, I ran memtest86 and had 0 fails on multiple passes.Yes, I tried default BIOS settings.Yes, I tried Fail-Safe BIOS settings

i'm new on this forum but i've been reading the posts around for a while.. right now i need help with my computer. i installed windows xp pro sp2 beta (5.1, build 2600) and now i need to remove this sp2 cuz it's screwing up my directx... i cant install directx 9.0c as the installation just goes extremely quickly and nothing actually was installed... after hours of searching i concluded that it was the beta version of sp2 that was causing the problems. the sp2 was slipstreamed (i think) with xp on the disc so i cant uninstall it using add/remove programs, i cant find C:WINDOWS$NTServicepackUninstall$ or anything like that, and i after removeing CSDVersion in HKLMSoftwareWindows NTCurrent Version, it was just backed up.

New system build has a 320 gig Sata drive, 965 chipset. I have no floppy!I have slipsteamed SP2 and created a new install disk I checked it in old system it boots. The Gigabyte manual says I will need a floppy to install to a SATA drive. What options do I have one thing I am considering is installing on my old 80 gig IDE drive, then, after installing the chipset drivers and such, install the SATA and image the IDE drive to the SATA.

I have just built a new PC from new components. It boots into BIOS fine and detects all the drives - SATA HDD and CD. I have set up CD as boot drive, and installed the XP Pro disc. It immediately puts message "Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration..." and then just sits there doing nothing. I have left it for a long time so far but nothing is happening. This is repeatable. Do I need to do something different eg load drivers from a floppy or is there a problem with my hardward set up?

I reformat the drives and during the XP Home Discs process of copying files for the installation, the process freezes the system anywhere from 11% at driver.cab to 54% at some random file (i didnt take note). I have tried 2 different XP home Discs (both legal etc.) and two different disk drives, though both are new. and still it is yielding the same result. I have also tried loosening the ram timings to 5-5-5-15 (they are rated at 4-4-4-12). No luck and this is beggining to wear me down.

The build number will be gone. However, you will loose the transparent

I have tried three times to install SP3, (winxp) mob asus M2V-MX, cpu AMD Athlon (tm) 64 x2 dual core processor 4400, each time I get right to the end of the install and it says access denied, I disabled my anti-virus and firewall and tried to install it in safe mode,
but I still get access denied, and each I have to do system restore to my pc to get back to how it was
I got in touch with microsoft and this what they want me to do, but to be honest I don't trust them I don't want to mess my system up, so would you please have a look at what they have sent me.

1) While I originally started with XP SP2, now I have a XP SP3 CD, with the SATA drivers successfully incorporated via nLite. SAME PROBLEM, even with the BIOS and XP Setup recognizing the HDDs on SATA ports instead of IDE channels.
2) I downloaded the Windows 7 Beta 64 bit, got thru the install to the point of "Updating Registry" and then the system lost power as with XP and did a soft restart.I am currently downloading to Ubuntu Linux to see if that also fails, at which point I definitely know I have a hardware issue. The question is: Which component? I am leaning towards PSU, with mobo in second. Please any insight from the pros would help.

The recovery disk that came with my machine is now well out of date and I want to make my own, with all the latest drivers etc. I am running XP SP2 but XP came as an OEM inbuilt provision. The manufacturer (Tiny Computers) will not release a copy of the XP disk to me unless I pay the full XP price!

I have a optical disk from my old build and 1 ide hard disk with xp installed.
I have tried booting from the ide hard disk with xp installed but when the xp loading splash screen is about to come a BSOD appears and it restarts. I can't read the BSOD as it goes to fast and i can't stop it.
Used the hard disk back with my old system and there is no problems, everything runs fine.
I have tried using 1 ram stick, both sticks, ram in different slot, every configuration i could think of. But i still have the problem. Tried the ram on a different system and it is fine. i can't get to run xp on this new system.

I'm building my first system from scratch, and have done fine up until the XP installation. This is by far the first XP installation I've done, so thought it would be a breeze. Not turning out that way.
It runs like normal until it gets to the part where it restarts and is supposed to resume/complete the installation. When it boots back up, it goes right back to the original Setup screen (Enter for setup, R for repair, etc). I've tried re-installing numerous times

When attempting to install certain packaged software it will fail or in some cases bring up the Windows Installer information window. We have noticed that it appears to happen when an installer, EXE or MSI relies upon transforming a further extracted MSI with an MST file. This only occurs if the files are attempted to be extracted to the root of the temp folder. The files are not created hence cannot be run. The Windows Installer information window will appear if you attempt to run msiexec pointing to a file that does not exist.

My log in name doesn't really do my novice pc skill justice. I am actually dumber than a PC spare.
I decided to leave the stone age sort of and bought a copy of windows xp home to extend the life of my POS just a couple more months. I didn't want to buy a new computer and got a deal on a copy of xp home. I am planning on buying components and building a system from scratch soon, but for now just needed to keep going. Several of the sites I like to frequent recently upgraded and no longer support ME. The copy of xp I received turned out to be an OEM Windows XP Home w/ service pack 2.Like a moronic bozo I set my IOLO Drivescrubber into motion and whiped my HD clean. I didn't change anything in the bios as one: don't know how to and two: afraid to. Once the drive was clean however it failed to recognize the cd rom of xp. I then remembered I had to format and partition the drive in order for it to do so.
