I have just built a new PC from new components. It boots into BIOS fine and detects all the drives - SATA HDD and CD. I have set up CD as boot drive, and installed the XP Pro disc. It immediately puts message "Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration..." and then just sits there doing nothing. I have left it for a long time so far but nothing is happening. This is repeatable. Do I need to do something different eg load drivers from a floppy or is there a problem with my hardward set up?
I have an old HD From a system that I got rid of. I want to put it into a friends system to see if I can retrieve the files off of it and put it onto my external HD. The hard drive was the boot disk and the computer I am installing it on has it's own boot disk. If I boot up with two boot disks will there be a problem? Is there anything I need to take into account before doing this? I am planning on installing the old HD onto an ATA cable that I unplugged from the DVD drive. The HD that is in this system is not on an ATA cable, I'm not sure what it is connected to, just a small plug with a blue cable going to the mother board.
My system was working fine until I installed XP SP2. I am having trouble with a Blue Screen Error "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" I believe NVGTS.SYS is the culprit ? I have had to boot in safe made with network to come here to try and get help. Can someone please give me a suggestion as to what might be the issue? I am trying to install this on a new system build, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz, EVGA NForce 780i SLI, 2 gigs of OCz DDR 2 800, Nvidia 8800GTS (G92) 512mb 256-bit GDDR3 PCI-E 2.0 x-16, WD 74 gig Raptor, Liteon 20X DVDR. Thank you~David
possible for me to build a boot cd like BartPE cd, or Ultimate Boot cd, or 911cd, or make Windows bootable through my flash drive (through BartPE) when my Toshiba laptop came with Win XP Home SP2 preinstalled and an OEM recovery dvd, but not a separate Win XP Home SP2 installation cd?
I'm sry if i'm such a newb and all. But i think i installed evertying correct. Well becouse everything turns on all lights work, and it beeps, which indicate everything is working correctly. But then it goes through post so called and of course since it's a new build i have no operating system on it. Well when i try to put the cd in i can see the disk reading it but it just says DISK BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK & PRESS ENTER. Well i got into the bios and tried the priority thing put cd rom first then it restarted still the same thing so then i went back into bios and put defualt settings were 1st floppy and 2nd hardrive and 3rd cd-rom. I'm trying to install Windows XP on my new Serial ATA hard drive, it has been formatted everything seems ok, When I start installing windows XP pro on this machine it seems like it just can't detect the damn hard drive, when I set it as boot on te serial ata drive eeverything works fine, it goes as C:/ but I just can't switch to my cd drive with windows XP to install it.When I boot up my other hrd drive with windows xp, I can actually see my hard drive in windows explorer.
I recently installed xp for the first time after replacing motherboard and CPU.I skipped setup because I didn't know what I was doing. Now I can't boot up (cold or warm) without using the original disk. Can I just go into setup and change boot settings without re-installing.Is there anything else I should know before I attempt to fix this problem? I am tired of using the disk every time I update something or install new program.
I recently installed a new hard drive into a friends computer and installed XP Home. I ran all the updates and service packs.
I left later that day and let him install all his applications.
I got a call tonight from him saying he really screwed up and doesn't know what to do. I had to follow his thinking over the phone so I hope I get this all correct.
He had trouble loading the drivers for his HP printer. He would get an error saying that a C: empHP_WebRelease folder was missing. He did manage to figure out that for some reason when I installed XP it called the Boot drive "I" instead of "C"
I have just bought and installed (to the point of completing initialization under Disk Management) a new 1 TB hard drive. Originally, I was planning to use it solely for data storage. However, I am thinking of installing Windows XP Pro and all the programs I currently use on it, thereby making it the new OS and programs drive, while using the original 120 GB HD as a data/backup drive.I think the main appeal of doing this, for me, is that it also presents an opportunity to reinstall Windows on a machine which hasn't had this done for more than three years, and which currently seems to take at least five minutes to boot to a "usable" state, despite having a reasonably high spec for its age (it was bought in 2001, but as a result of the upgrade
i am having problems with installing usb drive as it shows up in disk management but my computer won`t detect it anyone have any ideas how i can solve the problem i have a gigabyte ga-g31m-es2l motherboard,i am running windows xp 64 bit
not being computer literate , i am having a problem with a new hard drive . i took out the old one . i have the windows disc and product codes , but i can't get it to boot to start the windows installation. i have done it on another computer , and the disc begins installing windows on start up. i have tried starting the computer with the disc in place , and without it . obviously , i must be missing something to get it started . the disc is brand new .
I have been running windows XP SP3 and have been happy with it. But I was going to go with Vista on the new bulid (I can get it at a student discount) in order to have a 64-bit OS and have better access to memory. But this week's news has me convinced that I should should stick wiht XP until Windows7 comes out.
I do moderate gaming and lots of multitasking (many open windows, ITunes pumping to my home stereo, etc.)
So, here is are my questions:
-Is windows XP 64-bit even available anymore? - If so, is it worth it to install the 64-bit version? (will the diferences even be noticable?)
I just got a new custom computer with a ECS Kt600 Mb, AMD 2200 XP, Maxtor 80gb hdd, 512mb pc2700. Everything work great but when I tried to hook up my HP V40 all-in-one printer (USB cable), it will not recognize it at all. I changed cables but to no avail. I checked the ports and it recognizes my pen drive when I plug it in.
going to build a new PC and need a windows disc...was going to get a windows home edition......is it available in 64 bit version???if not what should i get...(NOT VISTA!)
Just finished installing (went OK) the SP3 RC beta and now the computer won't boot up, gets thru the Windows XP screen, waits for about 20-30 seconds then shuts down and reboots-continuously. Does the same procedure even in safe mode or best last configuratioin mode and no error messages. If I configure it to not auto reboot I do get the following error message: Stop: C0000319 (entry point not found). The procedure entry point. gdigetbitmapbitsSize could not be located in the dynamic link library. I didn't realize that the final SP3 product is due out tomorrow. Am I doomed to reinstalling XP from the CD or is their other "majic" that can be worked? I could remove the system hard drive and install it in an external enclosure to retrieve the data if I do have to reinstall XP.
I have just purchased and installed a RadiSys Endura EM945G MOBO with my old PATA HDD (Seagate ST38001A) and have hit a brick wall. First of all I put the IDE to SATA adapter on the HDD and applied power and data cables. The drive will not spin up at all. I tried changing the bios (Phoenix Award 5J1R2P34) options for the SATA to every option (combined, enhanced and SATA only) to no avail. Any clues on that would be helpful, however.
to circumvent this and just get the PC running I put the drive on the IDE controller by itself. It spins up and attempts to boot but goes into a cyclic reboot. I suspect it is being caused by the old AGP driver being loaded. This MOBO has onboard PCI graphics so I don't need the AGP driver at all. I've tried every safe boot option but still no go. Back in the old days you could do a step by step confirmation to loads selected drivers. Is that possible with WinXP (SP2)? I could try making a bootable CD and putting the CD drive on as a second (slave) drive on single IDE controller but don't know how I would modify/delete the AGP driver if I did get it to boot.
my computer supplier has gone bust, ceased trading and is out of business. My Windows XP Pro is an OEM version. Is there anything I can do short of purchasing XP Pro again? I have just whacked in a new hard drive to the 'pooter. It seems far superior in many respects to the ones that came with the computer in the first place. What I'd like to do is use tthe new drive as Windows disk C.
i just built a new pc but when I try to install xp pro it wont load. I installs just fine but when it tries to boot for the first time the screen goes blank when the splash screen is supposed to appear. here is my setup let me know what you think Black antec server tower w/ 450 watt smartpower p Abit ic7 g maxII advance mobo bios rev 21 I think P4 3.0 800 fsb 512 L2 Thermalright 947u h/s w/ 92mm vantec tornado 1 gig Kingston hyper x pc 3200 (512X2) Dual Channel Evga geforce 6800 gt 256
I'm having this problem with windows xp pro fresh install onto sata HD. Pressed F6 and installed sata drivers for the mobo etc. Now i hasten to add that i have tried this 3 times now, set up runs smoothly windows installs however when i have finished windows will only boot up with the CD in the CDROM. Been into Bios and changed boot sequence but still if no CD it just gets to boot from cd in the boot up screen and> stops, put the disk in and windows boots straight up and away we go.
I've tried several times to install Windows XP now on a new Maxtor drive bought just the other day. When I have the disc in, it loads to the blue install screen without asking me to press a key to boot from cd, I choose to install, partition the drive and format. It copies the files and then restarts, but when it loads again it still doesn't ask for me to press a key (which you aren't supposed to press the second time), and it loads back to the first menu, where I can start all over again.
I am try to two partition drive C and drive D in my computer but only one c or d instoling. i have 4000mb hardrive, please tell me how can i instol partition in my window xp professional.
I am buying a new PC and was wodering what I have to do to install my existing hard drive in to my new computer. I was told the new install of XP will have problems with the old hard drive.
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 desktop computer that I want to install a 2nd hdd. My sister gave me her computer (which is the same exact as mine). Her's was hit by lightening, she thinks. The motherboard was fried. I'm wanting to use her 40gb hd as a 2nd hdd in my computer. My question is: Will I have to do a clean install on her hdd? I don't want to do anything that would damage my good drive. If I install her drive in my computer and make it a slave in the bios, will that be all I have to do?
I've been using imaging software for more years than I care to remember, with Windows and a couple of other vital programs (and those rotten Google programs that don't give you the option) on drive C and everything else is installed onto another partition - not automatically, I do a custom install and change the installation directory. I have 2 questions.
I've been restoring, updating and making a new working image every Sunday for over a year and it's time for a format and new install, partly because the image is getting too big. My OEM XP Pro CD is SP2 which obviously will go onto drive C. I've downloaded SP3 and dotnetfx35 - will I come across any problems if I install them onto drive D? Seems logical that I won't, but what is logical when it comes to Microsoft? If this is possible, it seems reasonable that I can move all of those update files held in the Windows directory to the same location where I install the two big files, which should cut down on a lot of space on drive C over time...............
I been haveing trouble installing xp pro on my hard drive. I am able to get through the windows install, computer reboots then starts the process all over again starting from the blue screen.I've tried setting the cdrom as the first bootable drive but this does not do the trick.my pins are correct on my 160 gig drive. I don't know what else to do.
I was just installing XP on a 10 GB hard drive. When I was installing it it told me all other data etc would be los I said ok etc. After the install I see the C drive is almost full at 7.93 GB. Is this how much XP takes up? I did not think it would take up so much space. This is not my computer so I am not about to change the hd
I am wanting to use 32-bit XP pro on my new build but cannot get it to install. This is to avoid dealing with XP x64 driver searches and I do not want to lose netmeeting and msconfig so I refuse to convert to Vista just yet. Also, I am not completely convinced my build is Vista ready. The 32-bit XP install BSODs after doing "loading all the setup files".I have ACPI set to DISABLE.The APIC option in the BIOS is unselectable and is set to ENABLE.
No, there are not any BIOS updates available for my MOBO.Yes, I ran memtest86 and had 0 fails on multiple passes.Yes, I tried default BIOS settings.Yes, I tried Fail-Safe BIOS settings
i'm new on this forum but i've been reading the posts around for a while.. right now i need help with my computer. i installed windows xp pro sp2 beta (5.1, build 2600) and now i need to remove this sp2 cuz it's screwing up my directx... i cant install directx 9.0c as the installation just goes extremely quickly and nothing actually was installed... after hours of searching i concluded that it was the beta version of sp2 that was causing the problems. the sp2 was slipstreamed (i think) with xp on the disc so i cant uninstall it using add/remove programs, i cant find C:WINDOWS$NTServicepackUninstall$ or anything like that, and i after removeing CSDVersion in HKLMSoftwareWindows NTCurrent Version, it was just backed up.
