Can't Get To Boot After Installing New MOBO
Oct 30, 2009
I have just purchased and installed a RadiSys Endura EM945G MOBO with my old PATA HDD (Seagate ST38001A) and have hit a brick wall. First of all I put the IDE to SATA adapter on the HDD and applied power and data cables. The drive will not spin up at all. I tried changing the bios (Phoenix Award 5J1R2P34) options for the SATA to every option (combined, enhanced and SATA only) to no avail. Any clues on that would be helpful, however.
to circumvent this and just get the PC running I put the drive on the IDE controller by itself. It spins up and attempts to boot but goes into a cyclic reboot. I suspect it is being caused by the old AGP driver being loaded. This MOBO has onboard PCI graphics so I don't need the AGP driver at all. I've tried every safe boot option but still no go. Back in the old days you could do a step by step confirmation to loads selected drivers. Is that possible with WinXP (SP2)? I could try making a bootable CD and putting the CD drive on as a second (slave) drive on single IDE controller but don't know how I would modify/delete the AGP driver if I did get it to boot.

I have an extremely old computer which I wanted to see if it could boot from USB. I checked the motherboard to see if I could change the boot order to USB but all I could change it too was "Removable Devices" which I then put in the #1 spot to boot. I restarted my computer with my USB drive plugged in, but it booted to XP like normal. Is there a bios update that I can update my mobo too, so that it can boot to usb or is it just too old?

I recently installed xp for the first time after replacing motherboard and CPU.I skipped setup because I didn't know what I was doing. Now I can't boot up (cold or warm) without using the original disk. Can I just go into setup and change boot settings without re-installing.Is there anything else I should know before I attempt to fix this problem? I am tired of using the disk every time I update something or install new program.

When I go to reinstall my XP Pro I'm getting a message that a problem has been detected and that windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. It also says to disable BIOS memory options sucj as caching or shadowing. Check with your vendor for any BIOS updates. I suppose I could try to find something that would let me format the hard drive?

I have a perfectly good fresh install of XP. All works super...drivers, hardware, all software. You know that things not always work after a re-install.I like to upgrade my oldish mobo/cpu and then of course newer DDR2 RAM.Is there a way to make these upgrades without having to reinstall XP. I tried this before and of course XP doesn't load all new drivers automatically.I heard I can go into the XP bootup screen and do a repair.

I'm new to these forums, but it looks like there's a ton of info here, so I wanted to give you guys a shot. I'm looking to upgrade my mobo and CPU, but not necessarily my hard drive. Can I just uprade the mobo and CPU with my hard drive the way it is now, with Windows and all? Or do I need a clean install or reformat or anything?

I recently had motherboard problems with my computer.Swapped the motherboard for one given to me off a forum. The problem now is that on boot I get past the windows splash and get the BSOD.The error code was just a hex code for which google was not my friend.I could boot in safe mode (without cmd prompt or networking only), but I could not work out what the problem was.I have compounded the issue by using the XP install disc to perform a repair. All that has done is made it so i cannot boot in safe mode at all now due to the setup restriction with safe mode.I believe this is all to do with motherboard drivers that I need to fix.I probably need help in canceling the repair, and how to clean out the existing drivers.I have in the meantime installed Ubuntu to allow access to attempt repair.I would prefer not to have to do a full reinstallation if could be avoided.

Can I replace my motherboard, cpu & memory and expect my existing Windows XP installation to boot up? I realise there may be an issue with XP detectingtoo many hardware changes and insisting on being reregistered, but is that likely to be the only thing?

The mobo is still good but was getting a BIOS ROM Checksum Error at bootup, then it would go to Reading A: drive, insert system disk and press Enter. After doing a google search discovered that I would need to update the bios got the correct file for the board and the newest flash utility, and am doing it now.But it's been so long since I've done a floppy disk bios update, I can't remember about how long it normally took.

Independent Dual Boot capabilities on two separate & independent drives, one on the MOBO EIDE controller the other on the VIA SATA RAID Controller on the same MOBO. I am attempting a clean installation of Windows XP on the SATA Drive but the system fails to recognize even the presence of the drive. This, even after stripping the system of all drives except this one, and after 'prepping' it to be bootable with MAXTOR prep. tools. Was there ever a restriction on putting an O/S on SATA drives even on the MOBO? I have all the updates installed, "I think".

Where can I find drivers for my TOSHIBA laptop A135-S2286 mobo? I cant install the Radeon vid drivers for Xp Pro UNTIL I first install all the mobo drivers. CPUID gave me a cryptic Toshiba IAYAA brand mobo which I never heard of. I want to run XP Pro and right now the Device Manager shows NO vid display since the native vid driver is VGASave which sucks.

i bought a new mobo ram and video card for my comp. when i went to install it everything seemed to work fine until it tried to load windows, every time no matter what i did i seemed to get that blue screen as soon as windows tried to load and then it would automatically reset. i have tried a bunch of things and am stumped, im not sure if its a defective mobo that could be doing this, if anyone has any suggestions id greatly appreciate it.since i couldnt get it working i tried to hook up my old components back together for the mean time. but after everything was hooked up, when i went to hit the power button, the power would turn on momentarily and then shut off. the power supply should be fine since it worked on the new mobo fine, but also if you have any idea what that could be it would be of great help.

Just finished installing (went OK) the SP3 RC beta and now the computer won't boot up, gets thru the Windows XP screen, waits for about 20-30 seconds then shuts down and reboots-continuously. Does the same procedure even in safe mode or best last configuratioin mode and no error messages. If I configure it to not auto reboot I do get the following error message: Stop: C0000319 (entry point not found). The procedure entry point. gdigetbitmapbitsSize could not be located in the dynamic link library. I didn't realize that the final SP3 product is due out tomorrow. Am I doomed to reinstalling XP from the CD or is their other "majic" that can be worked? I could remove the system hard drive and install it in an external enclosure to retrieve the data if I do have to reinstall XP.

I have an old HD From a system that I got rid of. I want to put it into a friends system to see if I can retrieve the files off of it and put it onto my external HD. The hard drive was the boot disk and the computer I am installing it on has it's own boot disk. If I boot up with two boot disks will there be a problem? Is there anything I need to take into account before doing this? I am planning on installing the old HD onto an ATA cable that I unplugged from the DVD drive. The HD that is in this system is not on an ATA cable, I'm not sure what it is connected to, just a small plug with a blue cable going to the mother board.

Pressed F6 and installed sata drivers for the mobo etc. Now i hasten to add that i have tried this 3 times now, set up runs smoothly windows installs however when i have finished windows will only boot up with the CD in the CDROM. Been into Bios and changed boot sequence but still if no CD it just gets to boot from cd in the boot up screen and> stops, put the disk in and windows boots straight up and away we go.

I have just built a new PC from new components. It boots into BIOS fine and detects all the drives - SATA HDD and CD. I have set up CD as boot drive, and installed the XP Pro disc. It immediately puts message "Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration..." and then just sits there doing nothing. I have left it for a long time so far but nothing is happening. This is repeatable. Do I need to do something different eg load drivers from a floppy or is there a problem with my hardward set up?

I've tried several times to install Windows XP now on a new Maxtor drive bought just the other day. When I have the disc in, it loads to the blue install screen without asking me to press a key to boot from cd, I choose to install, partition the drive and format. It copies the files and then restarts, but when it loads again it still doesn't ask for me to press a key (which you aren't supposed to press the second time), and it loads back to the first menu, where I can start all over again.

I decided to upgrade to Vista today from Windows Xp. Rather than doing the upgrade process, I decided to start off with a fresh format/install.
after the first reboot in the Vista setup process (where Vista attempts to load data from the HDD) the system would just sit there after post as if the Vista loader couldn't properly detect the partition. I currently don't have time to troubleshoot the Vista problem with my system, so in desperation I have tried to go back to XP. I am able to boot into Windows XP setup, format the drive, and copy over the beginning essential files. However, after the system reboots after the initial copy of the data... XP is not capable of booting from the hard drive. this was not a problem before I tried to install Vista.
To check if a problem had occurred with the drive, I installed Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu is able to boot from the drive without any problems. However....... when Ubuntu loads grub, it detects the following on the MBR: The Vista loader appears to be preventing Windows XP from properly booting from the hard drive. The drive is a Western Digital 320gb. I have 30 gbs set aside for Windows to boot from. The rest of the drive is another partition with files I cannot afford to lose.

It might sound rather strange, but I need to install Win XP Pro over Linux Ubuntu. I plan on setting-up a dual-boot, but I need Windows to be installed first. When I try to boot from the Win XP Pro install CD (not OEM version, but complete Windows OS), I boot to Ubuntu. How can I launch the Win install and overwrite Ubuntu? Should I use http://dban.sourceforge.net/ to erase Ubuntu and then install Windows?

i have a 250GB Hard Drive and I used Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Tools 11 Tools to allow Windows to recognize all 250GB and break the 24-bit barrier. When I install Windows XP Pro, it goes through the format and the file setup fine (as far as I know) and then when it goes to boot, it goes right back into the Setup Config...it doesn't go on to install Windows. When the disk is taken out it just continually restarts and claims that there is an invalid BOOT.INI.

I was goin to restart my computer b/c my internet connection wasnt working well, and when i went to the start menu-restart, the shut down button said something along the lines of "updates for your pc" so instead of restarting, I clicked on that. When i did that, the pc was telling me it was updating, then it went tot the blue "windows is shutting down" screen Well, it stayed like that for about 20 minutes, so I thought it may have froze (it's done this before when i wasnt updating, just shutting down) When I went to turn it back on, i got the black screen with the white text that said "We are sorry for the inconvieniece, windows did not start successfully"

I managed to create a new partition on my Compaq Presario C700 laptop and install XP. (It came with Vista).First thing I noticed was that I can not detect any wireless networks or connect to the internet now. I am assuming that I need that driver and a whole bunch of other XP drivers as well. I have visited websites where they have a whole laundry list of drivers to download for my situation. Before I go through the painful process of downloading and installing all of them, I want to make sure this is really what I need to do.
