Can I replace my motherboard, cpu & memory and expect my existing Windows XP installation to boot up? I realise there may be an issue with XP detectingtoo many hardware changes and insisting on being reregistered, but is that likely to be the only thing?
When I go to reinstall my XP Pro I'm getting a message that a problem has been detected and that windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. It also says to disable BIOS memory options sucj as caching or shadowing. Check with your vendor for any BIOS updates. I suppose I could try to find something that would let me format the hard drive?
I have a perfectly good fresh install of XP. All works super...drivers, hardware, all software. You know that things not always work after a re-install.I like to upgrade my oldish mobo/cpu and then of course newer DDR2 RAM.Is there a way to make these upgrades without having to reinstall XP. I tried this before and of course XP doesn't load all new drivers automatically.I heard I can go into the XP bootup screen and do a repair.
I'm new to these forums, but it looks like there's a ton of info here, so I wanted to give you guys a shot. I'm looking to upgrade my mobo and CPU, but not necessarily my hard drive. Can I just uprade the mobo and CPU with my hard drive the way it is now, with Windows and all? Or do I need a clean install or reformat or anything?
I recently had motherboard problems with my computer.Swapped the motherboard for one given to me off a forum. The problem now is that on boot I get past the windows splash and get the BSOD.The error code was just a hex code for which google was not my friend.I could boot in safe mode (without cmd prompt or networking only), but I could not work out what the problem was.I have compounded the issue by using the XP install disc to perform a repair. All that has done is made it so i cannot boot in safe mode at all now due to the setup restriction with safe mode.I believe this is all to do with motherboard drivers that I need to fix.I probably need help in canceling the repair, and how to clean out the existing drivers.I have in the meantime installed Ubuntu to allow access to attempt repair.I would prefer not to have to do a full reinstallation if could be avoided.
I have just purchased and installed a RadiSys Endura EM945G MOBO with my old PATA HDD (Seagate ST38001A) and have hit a brick wall. First of all I put the IDE to SATA adapter on the HDD and applied power and data cables. The drive will not spin up at all. I tried changing the bios (Phoenix Award 5J1R2P34) options for the SATA to every option (combined, enhanced and SATA only) to no avail. Any clues on that would be helpful, however.
to circumvent this and just get the PC running I put the drive on the IDE controller by itself. It spins up and attempts to boot but goes into a cyclic reboot. I suspect it is being caused by the old AGP driver being loaded. This MOBO has onboard PCI graphics so I don't need the AGP driver at all. I've tried every safe boot option but still no go. Back in the old days you could do a step by step confirmation to loads selected drivers. Is that possible with WinXP (SP2)? I could try making a bootable CD and putting the CD drive on as a second (slave) drive on single IDE controller but don't know how I would modify/delete the AGP driver if I did get it to boot.
I have a Dell pc and the mobo just fried and of course I didnt take the extended warranty, so I bought a new mobo (asus) now that everything is back together it won't let me activate. When I use the 800 number they say that the product can't be activated.
I have an extremely old computer which I wanted to see if it could boot from USB. I checked the motherboard to see if I could change the boot order to USB but all I could change it too was "Removable Devices" which I then put in the #1 spot to boot. I restarted my computer with my USB drive plugged in, but it booted to XP like normal. Is there a bios update that I can update my mobo too, so that it can boot to usb or is it just too old?
i have a system that is running xp and i need to format the hard drive due to a new mobo. in the past i have tried and i ran into a problem that you already have an os installed. what is the best way to format in xp?
The mobo is still good but was getting a BIOS ROM Checksum Error at bootup, then it would go to Reading A: drive, insert system disk and press Enter. After doing a google search discovered that I would need to update the bios got the correct file for the board and the newest flash utility, and am doing it now.But it's been so long since I've done a floppy disk bios update, I can't remember about how long it normally took.
Independent Dual Boot capabilities on two separate & independent drives, one on the MOBO EIDE controller the other on the VIA SATA RAID Controller on the same MOBO. I am attempting a clean installation of Windows XP on the SATA Drive but the system fails to recognize even the presence of the drive. This, even after stripping the system of all drives except this one, and after 'prepping' it to be bootable with MAXTOR prep. tools. Was there ever a restriction on putting an O/S on SATA drives even on the MOBO? I have all the updates installed, "I think".
Where can I find drivers for my TOSHIBA laptop A135-S2286 mobo? I cant install the Radeon vid drivers for Xp Pro UNTIL I first install all the mobo drivers. CPUID gave me a cryptic Toshiba IAYAA brand mobo which I never heard of. I want to run XP Pro and right now the Device Manager shows NO vid display since the native vid driver is VGASave which sucks.
i bought a new mobo ram and video card for my comp. when i went to install it everything seemed to work fine until it tried to load windows, every time no matter what i did i seemed to get that blue screen as soon as windows tried to load and then it would automatically reset. i have tried a bunch of things and am stumped, im not sure if its a defective mobo that could be doing this, if anyone has any suggestions id greatly appreciate it.since i couldnt get it working i tried to hook up my old components back together for the mean time. but after everything was hooked up, when i went to hit the power button, the power would turn on momentarily and then shut off. the power supply should be fine since it worked on the new mobo fine, but also if you have any idea what that could be it would be of great help.
having trouble with the mobo CMOS settings and ended up rmaing the mobo and the memory. Well i got the new mobo and memory is it loads. When it goes to load XP it gets NTLDR not found or something to that degree and says press ctrl+alt+del to restart. My hd has a partial install of xp and i havent been able do the full install. Was wondering how to do the full install now. I tried popping the xp cd in and it doesnt read it, it just gives me the NTLDR message and wont do anything.
i had was my motherboard cpu fan not working in its cpu fan pin, so instead i have it hooked up to a case fan pin. I am not sure if this means i have a faulty mobo or not.
I installed my brand new Creative sound card, I installed its software and drivers all fine and the PC restarted fine. Next creative wanted to update the drivers and I let it. After it was done installling the new drivers it needed a restart. On restart I could not even get to the post screen and was displayed with an error saying USB over current, PC shutdown in 20 seconds. At first i could not get past this error at all, so i tried taking out the sound card and putting inserting it again. I did not get the USB error now and was happy.
I played Battlefield 2142 for a few hours then shut it down. Now today when i get home from work and turn it on i saw that USB over current error again and got frusterated. After taking the sound card out and putting it back in I had some new problems. I only saw my Asus Splash screen saying "press delete to enter setup" although pressing delete did nothing, it just hung on that screen.
An older friend got a CPU given to him so he can access email. Only problem is that apparently the Windows XP on it isn't geniune. I don't mind buying the XP Home Edition and replacing it but have some questions about how to do the replacement. Am I better to click the "Resolve Now" link and buy it from Microsoft? Or should I just pick up one at the store? Then, do I need to remove the bogus copy befroe I try to load the real one? If I load the real one without doing anything about the bogus one will the real one take care of it? Would the one I could purchase online automaticallly resolve these issues? I'm not real concerned about losing his word documents - there are few. I expect I may have to reload his internet connection software. I'm worried that this could be above my IT skill-level but I feel it needs to be resolved.
My XP Home system was installed right after XP came out and has, I'm sure, accumulated a lot of drivers and other files and stuff which are no longer needed. And I'm almost certain the Registry has a lot of useless stuff in it as well so I want to do a clean install of XP and Programs and start over. Yet, I want to keep my present XP on C: until I get the new, clean install customized and all my programs up and running with the clean install XP and programs are on CPrimary of course) and DLogical) contains my data files. I have created, using Partition Magic, another Primary partition on Disk 0 the same size as C: with no drive letter assigned
I have two HP-Compaq PC's, where one crashed the C drive and the other runs extreme slow. Both came with XP Pro pre-installed and no CD's. Both are at level SP3. Have been told that a clean reinstall of the XP Pro should be done every 6-12 month, as any windows will diminish performance over time. I have both Product Keys. Both machines have a 500 GB E drive as secondary storage, and they have 80 GB and 250 GB C drives respectively. 1. How can I obtain a replacement XP Pro to make a clean re-installation. 2. Any special instructions to do so.
I have Windows XP2 it is very slow, "System Mechanic 6" is installed, when asked to report more then one of the same file on my computer, it came back with about 10,000 of them can I safely dispose of these items please. I am only using 32% of my hard drive so I would expect it to be faster than it is, is it wise to reinstall windows XP I only have XP1 though.
My pc was running just fine but when cut off it wouldonly cut back on when it wanted to couple hours couple days It got to where I didn't cut it off.. justrestarted it otherwise it worked great well lightsblinked a month ago and I haven't been able to get itto come back on since.... but the little light inside is on There is no noise whatsoeverjust kinda like it is dead I took the switch off and took it to two places to try tobuy another and they said those things never go badit had to be the part it was hooked to on the motherboard. My question is can they fix this without having to replace the motherboard?
My friend has recently bought a package PC, and the included motherboard drivers are... well, rubbish. I'm trying to find the right drivers for it, but the SiS website is useless, nevermind the Foxconn website. The motherboard is:Foxconn 655A01-FX-6LRS, Chipset (AFAIK): 655FX 964. I'm only used to nForce drivers (a single download), and this is just painful by comparison!I've already made 2 failed attempts to install the drivers, with no success. Which drivers do I need? At the minimum just the sound would be ok - he doesn't need the onboard graphics.
My computer beeps, when i have more programs running or playing games. The beeping is from the motherboard.Checked the internet and nothing worked reinstalled windows etc.Its getting annoying after a while. If there are options to repair it without replacing parts cuz recently i added 1000 ram a 7300 gt and a 2.80 ghz processor. The beeping its since the end of the last year.
Long story short, I replaced my friend's motherboard in her eMachines computer. I've been told that we'd need a new copy of XP because the new MoBo won't be compatible. The copy we got ended up being the upgrade version. Is it possible to run the upgrade and replace the original XP with this new one?
I normally save my documents to a folder nested deep down in My Documents folder.
The shortcuts in the My Places bar are convenient but they could be be more convenient if I could replace one or more of them with a folder that I choose.
This may seem like a noob question but i was wondering if i will need to replace windows if i get i new motherboard. My computer is a HP workstation and it came with windows XP professional.
since i already have it on my hard drive will it just not boot with a different motherboard?
I have a Dell Dimension Desktop that became infected with a pretty nasty virus. I have had to remove the infected HD from the machine. Instead of trashing the machine, I would like to just purchase an entirely new HD for this machine. I am guessing that when purchasing a new HD that it does NOT already come with an O/S already installed. If this guess is correct, my question is this:Can I use the original O/S Reinstallation CD that came with the machine to get the O/S installed on the new HD? ORDo I have to purchase the O/S along with the new internal HD? If more information is needed before an answer can be provided, please let me know what is needed.
My Gateway LT3103u 11.6" netbook came with Vista and I would like to replace it with Win XP. What is the least expensive way to do it? I have all my files backed up.
I want to put the original XP Home disc back on my computer to replace the XP Pro already installed. I get a message saying that the one I want to install is older than the one being currently used and that all settings will be lost. How can I safely install the old operating system (XP Home) without losing my data or installed software applications?
