After reinstalling XP due to some corrupted files, the software works OK now, but it does not recognize my display adapter, NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX440-8X. In the Device Manager there is no display adapter listed, and I am having trouble operating my scrolling and dragging features. NVIDIA is made by ChainTech.
View 5 RepliesI am experiencing pixelization problems. At first it would only occur at boot up or reboot. Now it is happening all the time which can be help somewhat by refresh, changing the desktop picture, and/or logging off then on I have tried, disabling the 128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800 Pro using device manager. At first it was OK but at low resolution (VGA I think), but when it asked if I wanted to let windows manage the graphics it got garbled again. I have reset resolutions down to 800 x 600 using the graphics card but that doesn't help.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed a wireless adapter, it worked for4 days , then XP gives an error that 'xpdoes not recognize the item connected to the usb and that it has malfunctioned. I replaced the wirless adapter 3 times and even went to another vendor and it still says that. It claims that there is no driver, but when I install the software it says the driver is there. IF I delete the unknown device, it puts a driver in but the unit will not even light up.
I ran a registry cleanup fromlinksys and it was suppose to get rid of all the drivers but it still does not work. I changedto Netgear and it does the same thing.
I was able to successfully install XP Pro SP2 (32-bit, I believe) and achieve dual-booting with Vista Home Premium (32-bit, I believe).
My problem is my XP OS doesn't connect to the Internet. I tried disconnecting my Linksys network adapter (WMP54G), installing using provided CD in XP, reconnecting the adapter, and booting XP up.It doesn't recognize the adapter still
Recently, I installed the latest NVIDIA display drivers. However, I didn't uninstall my previous drivers, and when i remembered that i have to, i did...but after i had installed the latest drivers. And that's when the problem seemed to start. I looked on the Add/Remove programs list to see if the latest drivers were there, but there was nothing there. I couldn't find them on the list anywhere. So I tried reinstalling them, and when they were being installed, i got a message saying: "Windows could not load the installer for display. Contact your hardware vendor for assitsance."

At some point recently her teenage boys took it upon themselves to install a 2nd hard drive that they found in another Emachines that no longer worked. Shortly thereafter the standby button became greyed out and that function no longer worked. Then we could not get the computer to recognize or install the printer. I cannot play games, and all rendereing is very slow. i have tried installing software from nvidia and the video card manufacturer. I have tried the add new hardware wizard, but nothing has worked. I have no idea what to do. I also took a graphics card from another computer and put it in mine and it did not show up either.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI reformatted a laptop and install XP for someone as they were having a lot of problems with it and I thought this would be the best way to go as alot of program stopped working. Anyway, after installing it, I still found that I couldn't installed the games he claimed were working before something went wrong and I determined it was the graphics card. I was even more sure when I noticed how poor the refresh rate was (scrolling up/down on web pages and playing games).
So I went to device manager to find out what the card was and install the latest drivers (he doesn't have the drivers for sound/video). But display adapters are not shown in device manager and I went through display -> settings -> advanced and it didn't tell me what card or driver was in there, all the information wasn't there. So any idea's as to how I can work out what card is in this laptop?
I really need help with this one. My standby mode is greyed out and on top of that it says my intel display adapters aren't working proberly in device manager. So what should i do im not really good with this tech stuff. Do i uninstall them or what because i have no idea how to get them back and i REALLY do not want to mess up my computer. Any help would be GREATLY appriciated thanks. And the intel adapter or driver came with the comp. Ive had this computer for about 9 months.

I think I've sorted all of them except this last one. Before I installed SP3 my display adapter (NVidia GeForce4 Go 440 64M) inside my laptop (EASYNOTE K5305) was working fine. I decided to give it a run, so I started the repair process. And of course, as soon as I did, I realized I was on the WRONG INSTALLATION (mine, which was working - not my friend's)! The operation hadn't yet started - at least according to the progress bar - and the screen said something like, "Setup is loading" or "Setup is preparing" or something like that.

Got infect by a virus, virus was removed by Kaspersky. After virus removal both the 10/100 NIC and the wireless adapter, and the bluetooth have indicated that they are disconnected. However from device manager they show up as working properly, which they are not as I cannot connect to the internet and there is a red X on all three icons in the system tray. I am wondering if a system file related to network connectivity was afftected and subsequently deleted by kaspersky
I have problems if I try and run the display settings above 800x600. I was wondering if this would be fixed if I upgrade the firmware settings and if so where would I get these upgrades? Now the monsters are small, and so is everything else outside of the game I have no idea what I did, I checked the Screen Resolution and it seems fine, and I also checked my monitor settings, which is fine.
The monitor started showing graphic distortion. I ordered a new monitor but had the same distortion on it. I updated the ATI drivers but it did not solve the problem. In trying to trouble shoot the problem following directions on the ATI website, I changed all the graphic settings to the lowest and slowest available. This got rid of the distortion but the settings need to go! Now I cannot open the display settings.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAll my text/font display settings seem to have changed. I downloaded a freeware program today called avi2dvd, to convert avi video files to iso files for burning to DVD. I tried it out, got frustrated with it, and uninstalled it. After I uninstalled it, I went to check my email. That's when I first noticed that all the text in my yahoo email account had changed - it seemed smaller, like it was at a lower resolution.
I clicked on a few more pages and it was the same for all of them - the text was just not as...smooth. Not as readable. And definitely smaller. It's not just a font size thing, I'm not that much of a newbie, I tried enlarging the font and it's definitely a resolution thing, not just a font or size issue. Then I tried out some other programs, and found out that the problem was system-wide. I use a writing program called Final Draft, and the text in that is also less readable.I found one program that hadn't been affected: IE all my web pages display fine in Explorer.
my mom installed a virus the other day on accident. (Some program called Dr. Spy Shreddar, or something like that.) I deleted it, but some stuff was weird with the computer. I tried restarting the system to get the old configuration back, but the virus just installed itself again. I removed it again, using instructions from Systematic Antivirus and now it's really gone. Some of the settings were still weird though. So after hours of searching the help topics on Microsoft I managed to fix 1 & 1/2 of the problems I had/have.
For one of the problems they made me go into the registry and set something to the value of 0 in order to get the desktop tab back in the Display Properties box. (You know when you right click on the desktop and select properties.) That's all fine and dandy, but here's the other 1/2 of my problem: I can't access some of the features in the tab. (I have Windows XP Professional, by the way.) I can't click inside of the background list and it's shaded a sort of brownish beige color. I also can't browse and do anything with the position setting. I can however access the customize desktop and color features
I was installing security cables for the computer stations. when I finished and rebooted the computers(had to disconnect power and other cords to run the security cables) one of them had a display problem.
it seems that the display area has been reduced. the functional area of the screen is maybe 60% of what it should be. in this area it is complete with the full desktop able to be accessed and nothing is missing. but the right 20% of the screen is solid black (cursor stops at the boundary) and the bottom 20% of the screen(that's not black) is displaying a second image of the top 20% of my desktop. (cursor also stops at this boundary.)
I reinstalled XP Pro with SP1 on my computer today. Everything is working well except when my desktop loads the actual display is about an inch to the right on the screen. If I go into properties and change/apply the screen resolution from 800 x 600 then back to 1024 x 768 it realigns and all is well. I would just prefer to not have to do that each time I restart windows.

Now the window has cut off 20% of the side of window and there is no way to bring it back into the window.If I mazimize the window size the scroll doesn't show.If I make the window smaller so that the horizontal scroll does show it won't scroll far enough to the left to show the missing section of the window.

Both of the computers have access to the router but i am trying to network them together without the router. They both get a response but i cannot access the documents folders.

The keyboard is ps2 but I dont have a ps2 connection on my notebook. i went to an electonics store and bought a ps2 to usb adapter so that I could use this keyboard - but xp pro doesnt recognise it doesnt ask for new drivers - doesnt even register.
