View 1 RepliesJust formatted my desktop and installed a fresh copy of XP Pro on it. I did a search on google and found that some people said XP does not support directX 10, but then when you go to the directX website to download it, Windows XP IS under the list of "Supported Operating Systems". So is 10 supported by XP, or do I have to download 9.0c?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have just built a new system from some old parts of mine and some new ones which i bought, it boots fine etc. So i boot up my windows xp disc and it runs, i press enter for setup, f8 to accept agreement, then press c on the unpartitioned space to create a partition on my new hard disk, then it formats the disk, loads a load of files up and saves them, then it says that the 1st part of setup is complete and the computer will now reboot, after that setup is supposed to resume,
However it loops back to the start of the setup and i have to agree the EULA again and then if i select to install again on the now partitioned space it says i cannot create windows there as there is already a windows present, so i tried reformatting and creating a new partition and it comes up to the same part saying setup will resume after the reboot but it goes right back to the start again.
I am experiencing pixelization problems. At first it would only occur at boot up or reboot. Now it is happening all the time which can be help somewhat by refresh, changing the desktop picture, and/or logging off then on I have tried, disabling the 128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800 Pro using device manager. At first it was OK but at low resolution (VGA I think), but when it asked if I wanted to let windows manage the graphics it got garbled again. I have reset resolutions down to 800 x 600 using the graphics card but that doesn't help.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently, I installed the latest NVIDIA display drivers. However, I didn't uninstall my previous drivers, and when i remembered that i have to, i did...but after i had installed the latest drivers. And that's when the problem seemed to start. I looked on the Add/Remove programs list to see if the latest drivers were there, but there was nothing there. I couldn't find them on the list anywhere. So I tried reinstalling them, and when they were being installed, i got a message saying: "Windows could not load the installer for display. Contact your hardware vendor for assitsance."

Due to these and other various problems that accumulated over time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter reinstalling XP due to some corrupted files, the software works OK now, but it does not recognize my display adapter, NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX440-8X. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently gone back and redone a lot of windows. uninstalling updates and reinstalling them. I now do not have a display adapter showing up in the hardware manager. I cannot play games, and all rendereing is very slow. i have tried installing software from nvidia and the video card manufacturer. I have tried the add new hardware wizard, but nothing has worked. I have no idea what to do. I also took a graphics card from another computer and put it in mine and it did not show up either.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI reformatted a laptop and install XP for someone as they were having a lot of problems with it and I thought this would be the best way to go as alot of program stopped working. Anyway, after installing it, I still found that I couldn't installed the games he claimed were working before something went wrong and I determined it was the graphics card. I was even more sure when I noticed how poor the refresh rate was (scrolling up/down on web pages and playing games).
So I went to device manager to find out what the card was and install the latest drivers (he doesn't have the drivers for sound/video). But display adapters are not shown in device manager and I went through display -> settings -> advanced and it didn't tell me what card or driver was in there, all the information wasn't there. So any idea's as to how I can work out what card is in this laptop?
I really need help with this one. My standby mode is greyed out and on top of that it says my intel display adapters aren't working proberly in device manager. So what should i do im not really good with this tech stuff. Do i uninstall them or what because i have no idea how to get them back and i REALLY do not want to mess up my computer. Any help would be GREATLY appriciated thanks. And the intel adapter or driver came with the comp. Ive had this computer for about 9 months.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI did a silly thing today and installed Service Pack 3. It was a silly thing because it seems to have caused various small glitches with my system. I think I've sorted all of them except this last one. Before I installed SP3 my display adapter (NVidia GeForce4 Go 440 64M) inside my laptop (EASYNOTE K5305) was working fine. After the install the laptop doesn't even see it (not listed in device manager) and is running on a basic and lower resolution
View 5 Replies View RelatedXP PRO, sp3: Was working on a friend's computer. Slaved his hard drive to my system. I put in Windows CD and hit Enter to repair an existing installation. I decided to give it a run, so I started the repair process. And of course, as soon as I did, I realized I was on the WRONG INSTALLATION (mine, which was working - not my friend's)! The operation hadn't yet started - at least according to the progress bar - and the screen said something like, "Setup is loading" or "Setup is preparing" or something like that.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy question is this. I have a fully patched Win2000 Pro computer with IIS running. When I try to install .Net runtime (any version), I get an error that says, ".Net is not supported on this platform." I've tried everything I can think of and read every thing I could find and nothing seems to work. It's becoming a problem because more and more software is requiring that you have it installed.Iread all the .net requirements on MS site and made sure that I meet all those requirements.Another board has suggested that I do a clean reinstall of 2000 pro and I'm prepared to do that, but I'd really rather not.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5000 with Vista home on it and it works OK, but I bought a larger HDD and I thought that I would put Windows XP PRO on it, I went from a Hitachi 160GB 2.5" SATA drive to a 250GB drive, same Manufacturer, the only difference in the drives is the original was a SATA 1.50 and the new drive is a 3.0, BIOS see's the drive and the XP disk does al the usual stuff, then it asks if you want to Install windows on it, so I click OK and then it says the windows cannot detect any HDD and aborts the installation, I know that the 2 SATA's are compatible and the only draw back is that the 3.0 may operate in the 1.5 mode in the worse case scenario, but windows doesn't see the drive at all.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy friend is getting the above message when trying to boot up he has xp home. I cannot get into the bios or safe mode. There are 2 options press f1 to continue or del for setup neither works because the keyboard does not work. I have tried a keyboard that I know works and get the same message. His dvd rw drive is also not working but that is nothing to do with this problem its never worked for a while even before this problem. It is computer made by tiny which went out of business, he has a reload disc but with the drive not working cant use it. Unless I can get hold of my sons usb external rw drive which I will try to do tomorrow. I dont know if it will work though as the computer is not going very far into the post. I have to put the reload disc in whilst attempting to boot up. I am thinking this could be a hardware problem,He had problems with his ps/2 ports a while back so his keyboard is connected by a usb to ps/2 adapter.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe are using a LapTop with XP Home installed and SP2. I have been doing my best to clean a friends pc and speed things up. To date things have been going well and improvements have been noticeably made with the help of reading through several forums, sites and through my own experience. However, the issue I have at the moment is with several programs (which were pre-installed along with XP by the store who sold this Laptop) and in that there are NO uninstallers present. Not in Add/Remove, not in the Start-programs listing or in their respective folders. So, how does one remove these programs!? Some of these programs which I have seen at some sites as being recommended to have removed are `Sonic Update manager`, Sonic Record Now` and `Smart Hobby` etc. note: These programs and several others are not needed by the user of this pc.
I am under the impression that the only way to remove these programs is by deleting their respective folders and all traces within C drive and other drives (if utilised) and then editing the registry. Editng the registry is fine, though not all programs could be found there. Due to perhaps using different names in the reg as compared to their files in the folders. Also some reg files may be used with other software made by the same company but this I do not know. It becomes even more difficult as this pc is in another language in which I am not fluent. At all. I have seen snippets of information through this site surrounding my issue although nothing directly answered. Perhaps someone has an answer now that may help me solve this which would be great news.
