I just purchased an LG GSA-2166D external DVD burner. It is a USB 2.0 and when I plug it into my Windows XP computer it does not recognize it as the correct drive. Initially the drive showed up correctly and I loaded the software that came with it, but started having problems so I uninstalled the software and must have deleted something I needed. It now just shows up as a DVD-RAM or CD ROM drive and will not see anything on the drive. It gives me errors when I try to access it.Any help on what I need to download and reinstall to make this work?
I have an LG external DVD burner. When I put DVD's into the drive and then place a movie on the disc the computer will not reconize the DVD disc and will not burn it.Am I missing a driver for XP? I have never had a DVD burner on my computer. Or is there software that goes with the optic drive.
Earlier I formatted a PC with windows XP on it, the minute I plugged it up, a notification came up and said "This device can perform faster on a high speed 2.0 USB port". It says that when I plug them up into any USB port on the computer itself. The thing is, it will pretty much hang the system until I disconnect the external HD. It won't freeze 100%. It's responsive but no applications will open while it's trying to recognize the external.
It sounds to me like a USB driver problem or something because I'd assume it'd still recognize the drive even if it wasn't performing in a high speed 2.0 USB port... Any way to reinstall USB drivers? Never done that before. I have to use Hiren's Boot CD if I want to transfer files, simply because Windows XP won't recognize it and keeps popping up the notification.
I'm connecting a 30GB Travelstar Hard Drive via an external USB 2.0 case to my Thinkpad T40 with Windows XP (pro). Windows immediately recognized it. However, the hard drive does not show up under Windows Explorer. I can go into Device Manager, click on Disk Drives, and it does show the new drive there (along with my main hard drive, which is a 80 GB hard drive).
I cannot figure out how to make it show up in Windows Explorer with an Drive Letter assigned to it and thus, how to actually use it.
I'm struggling to connect my Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 to my Compaq Laptop, Windows XP.It works on other computers without a problem that's why I think it must be some setting in XP. I plug it in when prompted by installation software and the camera goes to :'preparing' Then immediately the windows found new hardware creen pops up. On the other computers that screen didn't come up and the camera would go straight into connecting' mode.I tried switching the 'found new hardware' off by disabling the plug and play in'services' with no luck.When I connect the camera while I'm starting up the laptop, it goes straight into 'connecting' mode but unfortunately that stops as soon as windows is started.I would like windows to detect my camera as a drive and not 'other devices

and when we set up verizon dsl and the guy had us go to run cmd and try to ping the ip address we got this: "ping" is not reconized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file and we tried several commands from this window and got the same message for all of them. and the guy at verizon said he was surprised that the pc was even running. well that's some of it got and recommendations other than total reformat?
Previously, my laptop did recognize the drive but for some reason it is now not finding it. I have plugged the drive into another computer and it is recognized. The laptop will recognize other devices which I plug into it. I have checked for viruses and have also tried restoring to an earlier time but no luck recognizing it
I have an external USB 300GB Seagate drive that used to work fine.Then, periodically XP would not recognize when I turned it on. A re-boot would fix the problem. Now, XP won’t recongnize the drive at all. I get an "unknown device" error. I have a USB 2.0 card I plug the drive into, and all other devices in that card work fine. The device driver manager says all is well, except of course with the "unknown device" it notes, which is the external drive.

Well I have an hard drive into a external enclousure but the windows XP of a new CPU do not finish detect it when I connect it. But the same external hard drive work fine in my laptop. I formated my CPU 2 times, but i got the same error of Windows. My CPU has a new motherboard Foxconn M7VMX-K.

I added a 120 gig Western Digital USB external drive and used Acronis to create a backup of my hard drive. I then used Windows XP to remove it as a USB device so I could power it off. Now, when I power it back on it is not recognized by XP and does not appear on My Computer or on Disk Management (where I originally formatted it for NTFS). All I get is a sound like a single "KERPLONK" when I power it on.
After installing Service Pack 2, Explorer no longer sees my DVD burner nor my CD burner. I have tried going to an earlier system restore point but that has not worked. You can see the drives in Device Manager but there are yellow exclamation points beside each. I have tried un-installing and letting windows re-enstall and it does, but still have the same problem after it gets through. When I try un-installing service pack 2 I get messages saying if I un-install, a lot of my programs may not run correctly. Can someone please help me? I used to burn CD's all the time...but now for some reason, it keeps on saying error right when the cd's about to finish burning it says ERROR and the cd drive opens.

My CD burner was functioning perfectly as of yesterday, and now, I apparently don't have one. When I insert a CD-RW into the drive, there is no option to delete or erase material on the CD, and windows media player does cannot find a CD burner on my laptop...can anyone tell me what has triggered this and how it can be remedied?
I was trying to backup some files using windows media. Everything looks fine until I press "copy" Then I would get a message saying "no files on disc". I tried DL'ing a newer version but got the same problem.
I recently turned off a lot of XP services that I thought I didn't need so that I could free up some CPU cycles for my flight simulators. Now, when I try to burn files to a CD, I get a message telling me to insert a CD-R into the drive? I'm using the program built into Win XP and it seems to start normally, it's just not recognizing the CD-R. Strange, but the CD burner was recording fine until I turned off the services. It plays fine otherwise. I've tried turning services back on but no luck. Does anyone know which service may enable this function?

I recently changed processors - nothing too technical -except now 5 times out of 6 , my PC will not recognize my DVD drive.There was no problem before.
I have an HP Compaq 6515b and after I deleted Nero (could have been before that) I noticed that it only recognizes my drive as a CD Drive and no longer my DVD drive. It won't let me burn DVDs so do I need to search out DVD software? I have gone to HP and the only thing that they say about a DVD (drivers wise) is for a WinDVD program. What do I need to install to get my DVD burner back?
Quite some time ago I ran windows defender and it removed my CD burner and my photo and imagine gallery where I could change the size of pictures and other things. I un installed windows defender before I realized they were gone. Anyway to get them back without doing a system recovery?
