PC Won't Recognize The Files In My External HD - Post Mac Usage

I used my External Harddrive on a macintosh computer - no problem there. I just needed to copy some files from the ext. onto the mac - All Good...
Now my PC won't recognize the files on my ext. I have been reading support forums for the like, but I have not found a solution.
The Mac did not give me any warning that it was altering the file format or anything like that, but it apparently has.
Is there any way I can get my files recognized by my p.c.? Windows XP.

I just purchased an LG GSA-2166D external DVD burner. It is a USB 2.0 and when I plug it into my Windows XP computer it does not recognize it as the correct drive. Initially the drive showed up correctly and I loaded the software that came with it, but started having problems so I uninstalled the software and must have deleted something I needed. It now just shows up as a DVD-RAM or CD ROM drive and will not see anything on the drive. It gives me errors when I try to access it.Any help on what I need to download and reinstall to make this work?

Earlier I formatted a PC with windows XP on it, the minute I plugged it up, a notification came up and said "This device can perform faster on a high speed 2.0 USB port". It says that when I plug them up into any USB port on the computer itself. The thing is, it will pretty much hang the system until I disconnect the external HD. It won't freeze 100%. It's responsive but no applications will open while it's trying to recognize the external.
It sounds to me like a USB driver problem or something because I'd assume it'd still recognize the drive even if it wasn't performing in a high speed 2.0 USB port... Any way to reinstall USB drivers? Never done that before. I have to use Hiren's Boot CD if I want to transfer files, simply because Windows XP won't recognize it and keeps popping up the notification.

I'm connecting a 30GB Travelstar Hard Drive via an external USB 2.0 case to my Thinkpad T40 with Windows XP (pro). Windows immediately recognized it. However, the hard drive does not show up under Windows Explorer. I can go into Device Manager, click on Disk Drives, and it does show the new drive there (along with my main hard drive, which is a 80 GB hard drive).
I cannot figure out how to make it show up in Windows Explorer with an Drive Letter assigned to it and thus, how to actually use it.

I'm struggling to connect my Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 to my Compaq Laptop, Windows XP.It works on other computers without a problem that's why I think it must be some setting in XP. I plug it in when prompted by installation software and the camera goes to :'preparing' Then immediately the windows found new hardware creen pops up. On the other computers that screen didn't come up and the camera would go straight into connecting' mode.I tried switching the 'found new hardware' off by disabling the plug and play in'services' with no luck.When I connect the camera while I'm starting up the laptop, it goes straight into 'connecting' mode but unfortunately that stops as soon as windows is started.I would like windows to detect my camera as a drive and not 'other devices

there are several things but lets attack one at a time. first of all when i run antivi iget this (C:DOCUME~1OWNER~1.STELOCALS~1TEMPAAWTMPC23656656222749SETUP.EXE) contains the signature of the worm WORM/AlcraB no matter how many times i delete it it comes back. next when trying to browse this blank mos-dod screen comes up with this message.

Previously, my laptop did recognize the drive but for some reason it is now not finding it. I have plugged the drive into another computer and it is recognized. The laptop will recognize other devices which I plug into it. I have checked for viruses and have also tried restoring to an earlier time but no luck recognizing it

I have an external USB 300GB Seagate drive that used to work fine.Then, periodically XP would not recognize when I turned it on. A re-boot would fix the problem. Now, XP won’t recongnize the drive at all. I get an "unknown device" error. I have a USB 2.0 card I plug the drive into, and all other devices in that card work fine. The device driver manager says all is well, except of course with the "unknown device" it notes, which is the external drive.

Well I have an hard drive into a external enclousure but the windows XP of a new CPU do not finish detect it when I connect it. But the same external hard drive work fine in my laptop. I formated my CPU 2 times, but i got the same error of Windows. My CPU has a new motherboard Foxconn M7VMX-K.
The USB ports work fine with my pendrive.
In my computer i can see a new hard drive with a letter (K, whithout data.
The Windows XP Administrator Disk doesn't show nothing about the external hard drive.

I added a 120 gig Western Digital USB external drive and used Acronis to create a backup of my hard drive. I then used Windows XP to remove it as a USB device so I could power it off. Now, when I power it back on it is not recognized by XP and does not appear on My Computer or on Disk Management (where I originally formatted it for NTFS). All I get is a sound like a single "KERPLONK" when I power it on.

My in-laws computer has 89% of hard drive (40 of 44 gb) used. I've deleted obvious things like photos and videos, but most of the files have names i dont recognize and I dont want to bust the computer or lose a key application. Theydon't have all that many programs either. How can I know what to delete?

Every music folder in My Music after C (cameo!) has disapeared although I know they are still there - i can still play them in itunes and even open the song folder but if I copy it and drop it back into My Music it vanishes. Windows doesn't even recognise the memory that the missing files use and thinks the folder holds 3 gigs when its more like 30. Just wondering if there is anything I can try before going through the hassle of reformating.

I bought a 250GB Seagate USB 2.0 external hard drive to free up my internal HD. XP does not seem to like it. I have copied many small files to the new drive with no problem. However I just tried to copy some large video files to it without success. The external drive has 230GB free. However when I try to copy a 12.4GB file from my system to the external HD, XP tells me there is not enough room and that I should delete files beore trying again. There is plenty of room on th external HD and XP has got it wrong. The weird thing is that when I right click on the external drive's icon and view it's properties, XP tells me there is 230GB free.

Windows seem to have a REALLY big problem when it comes to reading AVI files. It seems that when you click on an AVI file in explorer, it'll try to read the entire AVI file to determine the width,height, etc. of the AVI file this is displayed in the Properties window. Now the problem with Windows is that if you have a broken/not fully downloaded AVI file that doesnt contain this info, Windows will scan the entire AVI file trying to figure out all these properties which in the process will probably cause 100% CPU usage and heavy memory usage.

All the .html files on mywindows XP sp2 machine have been renamed to .htm and further when I try to rename them, the explorer CPU usage suddenly increases to maximum. But, some files gets renamed and others can't be renamed at all. And, for those which cannot be renamed, I get a pop-up error message saying "file is being used by another program and cannot be renamed.", and that's when explorer starts using all of CPU and system gets very slow.I have already done full system scan through Kaspersky and Malware Bytes Anti-Malware, but they have simple turned out to be futile.

I have a WD 250gb external HD, i have since switched to a mac and still want to use this HD.however there are 3 files on this drive that seem to be microsoft updates, not sure how they ended up on this drive....i did not place them there....id imagine it was thru one of the many microsoft auto updates i want to try and delete these files, but i get an error saying that i either dont have authority to delete these files , or they are currently in use. they are two folders that are 0 bytes....and have long random numeric and alpha titles such as e7e4e1d6bbb6349...etc.

I purchased a 200gb external USB hard drive (HAMMER) a few years ago. It seems that over time Windows XP has been migrating critical files over to it or something. I have been finding strange folders with strange properties. Anyways, the computer boots up just fine when the HD is off, but if the HD is ever turned on and then looses its connection, the computer usually shuts down or restarts itself. I bought a DELL labtop Inspiron 5052 over two years ago. It got XP Home version. A couple of weeks ago, a cup of coffee was spilled on my laptop. I took it to a computer shop. They contacted Dell and tried to order the labtop motherboard but to no avail as Dell has discontinued manufacturing this type. The warranty is only 1 year. So I decided to use it for spare parts. What 's an expensive cup of coffee ($3500.00). After removing the hard drive (60Gb) from the labtop, I made it as an external USB type hard drive. It was a perfect solution as at least I can save the data. But the fun was a short one as I now experience something to do with 'file access'. Connecting the external hard drive to my PC, I can see all the files and folders on it. The problem is on my Dell laptop I have 2 users setup under Document and Setting. One of the user logon (userA) enforces password while the the other (userB) enfoces no password for logging on. I can open files from userB with no problem but can not open files or folders from userA. It says "Access denied" or "file inaccessible". Is there a way to overcome this ?

Two files occasionally start running which tie up large amounts of CPU capacity. Checking thro Task Manager these appear to be
MSMSG.EXE which i assume is microsoft messages of some form but no message is actally on screen the other is VSMON.exe which is part of the Zone lab firewall, they only activate sporadically and when I am on the Net but they show cpu usage at 80%+ so everything freezes. When they are not active the cpu runs at around 15%.

I have an IDE drive housed in an external USB enclosure. When I connect it to my XP Pro (SP2) desktop it is recognised, and I can browse the folders and files. However when I try to copy a large number of files from the drive to a local hard drive on the desktop I get a "resource no longer available" error, and the external drive is no longer visible to the PC. I can then disconnect and reconnect the drive but only get back into the same loop.

I recently decided to start backing up my computer files. I read somewhere you can copy your drive so that way is something goes wrong with your main drive you can still boot from the backup.I have a Biostar P4M80-m4 Mobo, Windows xp is installed. I was wondering if I backed up to an external enclosure could I boot from that in case something happened to the main drive?The program I plan on used is R-Drive Image Since it has a 15d trial. I'm using the copy disk feature.
