CD Burner/DVD Burner Not Recognized In Explorer
Dec 4, 2004After installing Service Pack 2, Explorer no longer sees my DVD burner nor my CD burner. I have tried going to an earlier system restore point but that has not worked. You can see the drives in Device Manager but there are yellow exclamation points beside each. I have tried un-installing and letting windows re-enstall and it does, but still have the same problem after it gets through. When I try un-installing service pack 2 I get messages saying if I un-install, a lot of my programs may not run correctly. I am running a Gateway 700 series 1.8 mhz pentium 4 processor, 512 mgs ram, with 80 gig harddrive, windows XP home. I have owned a computer since windows 3.1 and have tried all I know. Can someone please help me? I am just before formatting my hard drive and starting all over!Just for assurance I opened the computer case and checked to make sure the wires were properly seated to both drives and the mother board.

Feb 1, 2010My IE7 and WMP11 crashed.I dont really care about IE7 because i use M. Firefox 3.6 but i definitely need Windows Media Player. I've done every update, i tried reinstalling but nothing has been a solution.
Here is what happens;

This is what happens when i try to open media player. WMP11 does NOT OPEN AT ALL. So does IE7.
I'm open to any solutions. media player or internet explorer.
BTW; i'm using

Nov 5, 2006I just downloaded Windows Media Player 11. All my visualizations seem to now be playing at low resolution, like 640X480. How on Earth do you up the resolution on them? In the plugin section, it says you cannot change the properties for any of the visualizations.

Jan 25, 2007It keeps hanging on install for me very weird gets to 25% then doesnt seem to shift.
The package install progress bar seems to keep moving but the top one stays at 25% on the Windows Media Format Runtime part...then after about 2 hours it'll say was unable to complete install.

A laptop the os system being vista it has wmp11 on it he tried to play a dvd video film on it he got the sound but the video was encrypted how can I make it so he can see the video on wmp11. I downloaded VLC and that works fine video and sound, so whats the problem with wmp11?

WMP11 Plays Audio But No Video
Sep 27, 2007I have win xp sp2 fully update with all drivers etc upto date. WMP11 was working fine and I can't figure what has caused the issue.
All video files play, but only the audio, the screen remains blank. This applies to local files or steaming from places such as mlb.tv etc.
I have tried removing WMP11, and 10 but nothing allows media files to play. No other software would work either. I finally got VLC to work by selecting OpenGL mode, but that would work in no other mode either.
I have checked I have all codecs, tried removing all and re adding, but nothing seems to work.
Ungroup Music List In WMP11 Library?
May 25, 2006Is it possible to ungroup the music list in the library? Just like in WMP10 just like this one.
This is one of the reason I'll probably stick to 10 (or other player) even when the final build is release (unless of course it's possible).
BIOS Upgrade Begets DRM Problems With WMP11
Dec 21, 2006I recently updated BIOS on a Compaq Presario 5330US running XP Home SP2. Now when I play DRM protected content with WMP 11, I get a message that states "Windows Media Player cannot play the protected content file because a security upgrade is required. Do you want to download the security upgrade?" I click on "YES," and get another pop-up message. This message says "The file or device that you are trying to use requires a component of Windows Media Player to be upgraded; click Upgrade to download and install the required component." I do, but nothing happens.
I went to the Microsoft site and read a document at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa387015.aspx, which seems to describe the situation. It appears that my WMP 11 is not "Individualized" through Microsoft's Individualization Service.
I found another document at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925705/en-us, which sends you to a Microsoft web site at http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp titled Security Component Upgrade. There is an "Update" button there, but it is grayed out and not selectable.
Ive tried rolling back to WMP10 and reinstalling WMP11 (twice), I even reinstalled Explorer 7, but neither action corrected the problem.
Non-DRM protected content appears to run unaffected on WMP 11, and everything else seems to work OK, but I am very frustrated that megabytes worth of previously downloaded content is not available to me, nor am I able to run new content from the same sites. Also, I have another HP computer that has a BIOS upgrade available, but I am understandably worried about attempting this.

Oct 1, 2006I used to burn CD's all the time...but now for some reason, it keeps on saying error right when the cd's about to finish burning it says ERROR and the cd drive opens.

Feb 16, 2006I recently turned off a lot of XP services that I thought I didn't need so that I could free up some CPU cycles for my flight simulators. Now, when I try to burn files to a CD, I get a message telling me to insert a CD-R into the drive? I'm using the program built into Win XP and it seems to start normally, it's just not recognizing the CD-R. Strange, but the CD burner was recording fine until I turned off the services. It plays fine otherwise. I've tried turning services back on but no luck. Does anyone know which service may enable this function?

Nov 12, 2005I just purchased an LG GSA-2166D external DVD burner. It is a USB 2.0 and when I plug it into my Windows XP computer it does not recognize it as the correct drive. Initially the drive showed up correctly and I loaded the software that came with it, but started having problems so I uninstalled the software and must have deleted something I needed. It now just shows up as a DVD-RAM or CD ROM drive and will not see anything on the drive. So, after installing Windows Vista as a "dual boot" operating system, I switched the DVD drives back so the Pioneer DVR-106D = MASTER and the Pioneer 116 = SLAVE. Now I have a write problem to the Pioneer DVR-106D drive. When I attempt to either copy a DVD or just burn a data disk, I get an "INTERNAL TARGET FAILURE" error message. Happens every time now.As my system is already set up as a "Dual Boot" operating system with Windows XP & Vista, I cannot format my "C" drive and reinstall Windows XP to fix this problem.QUESTION: Does anyone know how to correct this problem without formatting and reinstalling Windows xp?
