View 8 RepliesI recently updated BIOS on a Compaq Presario 5330US running XP Home SP2. Now when I play DRM protected content with WMP 11, I get a message that states "Windows Media Player cannot play the protected content file because a security upgrade is required. Do you want to download the security upgrade?" I click on "YES," and get another pop-up message. This message says "The file or device that you are trying to use requires a component of Windows Media Player to be upgraded; click Upgrade to download and install the required component." I do, but nothing happens.
I went to the Microsoft site and read a document at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa387015.aspx, which seems to describe the situation. It appears that my WMP 11 is not "Individualized" through Microsoft's Individualization Service.
I found another document at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925705/en-us, which sends you to a Microsoft web site at http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp titled Security Component Upgrade. There is an "Update" button there, but it is grayed out and not selectable.
Ive tried rolling back to WMP10 and reinstalling WMP11 (twice), I even reinstalled Explorer 7, but neither action corrected the problem.
Non-DRM protected content appears to run unaffected on WMP 11, and everything else seems to work OK, but I am very frustrated that megabytes worth of previously downloaded content is not available to me, nor am I able to run new content from the same sites. Also, I have another HP computer that has a BIOS upgrade available, but I am understandably worried about attempting this.
My IE7 and WMP11 crashed.I dont really care about IE7 because i use M. Firefox 3.6 but i definitely need Windows Media Player. I've done every update, i tried reinstalling but nothing has been a solution.
Here is what happens;
http://s3.amazonaws.com/satisfaction-production/s3_images/151574/errors.jpg
This is what happens when i try to open media player. WMP11 does NOT OPEN AT ALL. So does IE7.
I'm open to any solutions. media player or internet explorer.
BTW; i'm using
WÄ°ndows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
Does Windows Media Player 11 have a data disc burner too? Can it burn DVDs?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded Windows Media Player 11. All my visualizations seem to now be playing at low resolution, like 640X480. How on Earth do you up the resolution on them? In the plugin section, it says you cannot change the properties for any of the visualizations.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI turned on my computer and several windows
programs aren,t working.
When I try to turn on Windows Media Player 11, Help and
Support or System Restore nothing happens.
The same problem occurs in safe mode.

I have win xp sp2 fully update with all drivers etc upto date. WMP11 was working fine and I can't figure what has caused the issue.
All video files play, but only the audio, the screen remains blank. This applies to local files or steaming from places such as mlb.tv etc.
I have tried removing WMP11, and 10 but nothing allows media files to play. No other software would work either. I finally got VLC to work by selecting OpenGL mode, but that would work in no other mode either.
I have checked I have all codecs, tried removing all and re adding, but nothing seems to work.
Is it possible to ungroup the music list in the library? Just like in WMP10 just like this one.
This is one of the reason I'll probably stick to 10 (or other player) even when the final build is release (unless of course it's possible).

View 14 Replies View Relatedso I've found somewhere that sells Windows XP for a reasonable price as an OEM. Now I've been told that that means I have to install from a completely blank harddrive but my PC is around 3-5 years old and my friend says that it might not be compatable with XP. is there any way I can tell as I don't want to buy WinXP only to find it messes up my PC.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a computer last year with XP. I read today that since April there has been no support for XP and the suggestion was to upgrade to 7. I read the instructions and it's way too complicated for me. Then I read that 7 users can downgrade to XP.I don't get it.I just would like to know: Can I safely stay with XP for a couple of years?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a computer with Windows 2000 Pro on it and I wanted to upgrade it to Windows XP Pro using an unused Windows XP Pro CD/license (Version 2002, it says) I have. However, when I stuck in the CD and selected "Install XP Pro," it told me "Windows XP Setup does not support upgrading from Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional to Microsoft Windows XP Professional."
So it will only let me do a clean install. Is this because I have an OEM CD meant for a new computer? I thought you could upgrade (rather than re-install) to XP from any genuine XP CD?

I was given an old Gateway laptop computer with a 400 MHz Pentium processor and 256 kb of RAM, running Windows 98SE. I decided to upgrade it to Windows XP Home. The upgrade starts out fine, it checks the system, gives no error messages, and then begins to copy files. The hard drive and CD indicator lights flicker to indicate files are being copied, and there's the dotted scroll bar that scrolls from left to right on the screen to show you that there's activity going on. the hard drive and CD indicator lights stop flickering, it seems that files are no longer being copied from the CD to the hard drive. However, the dotted scroll bar on the screen keeps on scrolling from left to right. I have left it doing this for several hours; that scroll bar keeps on scrolling, but the installation process stops. The system doesn't hang, the file copying just stops. Win XP is never installed, and after reboot it reverts back to Win 98SE.
Instead of an upgrade, I tried wiping the hard drive, reformatting, and doing a clean install of XP, but it doesn't help. It gets to the same point in the setup, and just stops copying files. No error messages or any indication that anything is wrong. I have tried installing Win XP on at least 10 different occasions, but no success.
I want to upgrade the computers at my business in derbyshire, UK. I want to upgrade two office PC'S to XP. They both meet miniumum specs but how much do i need to pay to get the software legally and where would i get it from?
