I want to delete my old OS. It had NT, but i put XP Professional on it now. NT is located on my C drive, while XP is located on my E drive. Can i just delete the windows file on my C drive to get rid of it or what should I do?
Can I do an upgrade to the 64 bit version of xp, - or do I have to do a clean install of the OS and reinstall all the software from scratch to upgrade?
Can I continue to use my existing XP Home with upgraded HW (i7). Is the MS OS married to the old CPU & MB or will a phone call get the reinstall running?
On my old comp. I tried to swap P2 350/512 100/2.0V S1 to P2 450/512 2.0V including heat sink and fan. After booting the screen was black with nothing on it , when I removed CPUand booted without any CPU in I had the same result.Reinstalled the P2 350 CPU and everything works fine. P2 450 was taken out from working comp.It looks like both CPU's have slot1 connection and fitted well in the socked.
Microsoft has advised that there will be a SP3 upgrade for Windows XP, but it will not be released until after Windows Vista is released. Internet Explorer 7.0 will not be part of the SP3 upgrade. It will be made available separately and will be supported by SP3.
I'm currently using windows xp pro. When I install SP2, do I need to backup all the files or is it a easy convenient installation?I mainly use Mozilla but someone else uses IE for one of those online games.
so I've found somewhere that sells Windows XP for a reasonable price as an OEM. Now I've been told that that means I have to install from a completely blank harddrive but my PC is around 3-5 years old and my friend says that it might not be compatable with XP. is there any way I can tell as I don't want to buy WinXP only to find it messes up my PC.
I bought a computer last year with XP. I read today that since April there has been no support for XP and the suggestion was to upgrade to 7. I read the instructions and it's way too complicated for me. Then I read that 7 users can downgrade to XP.I don't get it.I just would like to know: Can I safely stay with XP for a couple of years?
I have a friend that wants to go from Windows ME to Windows XP Home Edition. Does she have to buy the Windows XP full version? Or just the Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade?
i currently have windows 2000 pro and i am going to buy winxp pro soon, but i have a few questions.. 1, can i do an in place upgrade? without losing my settings? 2, will upgrading affect my cable modem settings? 3,do i need to delete anything or just keep everything the same.. 4,is this a complicated task? and do i have the right system riquirement
Should invest in Windows XP 64 or not. Would it improve my performance (I have an amd64 3200+) and if I would have to back up everything i want to keep on there. And would I be better off if I just waited for vista?
WMP11 not working sometimes. Is this true? WMP10 is wanting me to upgrade but I'm not sure if I should. Can I go back to WMP10 if I upgrade and don't like it?
I have a computer with Windows 2000 Pro on it and I wanted to upgrade it to Windows XP Pro using an unused Windows XP Pro CD/license (Version 2002, it says) I have. However, when I stuck in the CD and selected "Install XP Pro," it told me "Windows XP Setup does not support upgrading from Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional to Microsoft Windows XP Professional."
So it will only let me do a clean install. Is this because I have an OEM CD meant for a new computer? I thought you could upgrade (rather than re-install) to XP from any genuine XP CD?
My computer is 2 years old and after adding many games for the grandkids my computer has started slowing down. I now have 512MB of memory would it speed up my computer to add memory? If so how much should I add and how do I do this? Is there a site that shows step by step instructions?
I was given an old Gateway laptop computer with a 400 MHz Pentium processor and 256 kb of RAM, running Windows 98SE. I decided to upgrade it to Windows XP Home. The upgrade starts out fine, it checks the system, gives no error messages, and then begins to copy files. The hard drive and CD indicator lights flicker to indicate files are being copied, and there's the dotted scroll bar that scrolls from left to right on the screen to show you that there's activity going on. the hard drive and CD indicator lights stop flickering, it seems that files are no longer being copied from the CD to the hard drive. However, the dotted scroll bar on the screen keeps on scrolling from left to right. I have left it doing this for several hours; that scroll bar keeps on scrolling, but the installation process stops. The system doesn't hang, the file copying just stops. Win XP is never installed, and after reboot it reverts back to Win 98SE.
Instead of an upgrade, I tried wiping the hard drive, reformatting, and doing a clean install of XP, but it doesn't help. It gets to the same point in the setup, and just stops copying files. No error messages or any indication that anything is wrong. I have tried installing Win XP on at least 10 different occasions, but no success.
I want to upgrade the computers at my business in derbyshire, UK. I want to upgrade two office PC'S to XP. They both meet miniumum specs but how much do i need to pay to get the software legally and where would i get it from?
I upgraded an emachines t2542 from xp home to pro. Now I can't fix the resoluyion past 4 bits. Did the advanced settings, but all that is listed is "default monitpr" with no option to click on 'properties'. Went into device manager and there is no 'display' tab. The only items with ???? on them are an audio and a 'vga' device. I tried to update driver for vga, but it says it cannot be found even though I have the HP 17vs disk in.
I orderd an SP2 upgrade CD from Microsoft as soon as they were available. I have not yet upgraded my Windows XP SP1 computer to SP2. The SP2 CD is a bit old. Do you think it would it be better to download the most recent SP2 upgrade from Microsoft web site instead of using the SP2 CD?
I have Windows XP SP2 installed on an "ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe" which used to work with a Celeron D 2.4 GHz. I Finaly bought a P4 3.0 GHz (HT) and changed the CPU. The OS detected the new cpu and with a driver signing warning, it installed the new processor (The driver is provided by Microsoft). Although everything seems to work fine I don't have "Hyper Threading" enabled in Windows, while it is reported to be available in BIOS. I found some boot.ini editing guide that didn't help. I don't want to fresh install windows since I'm faithful to my aged XP which was installed around 1998 and upgraded to-date! How can I enable HT?
The Intel CPU D925XCV is still available and admired but it was introduced in 2004. I would like to find a more recent CPU which builds on the virtues of this CPU,and not too difficult to install.
After CPU the processor was installed I attempted to boot normally and the 1st time it worked - but Windows said "you may need to restart your computer for hardware to perform properly [paraphrasing]" so I restart...Now when I select "Windows XP Professional" attempt to boot normally it just restarts the PC. It also does this in SAFE (and SAFE with Cmd, Ntwrk Prompt, etc.) It just so happens that I use an app called TuneUp Utilities and there's an option during startup for "Windows XP Professional (TuneUp Backup)" which I tried when all else failed (Last Known Good, etc) and it boots just fine.My question is: How can I repair XP so I can boot normally? I've tried checking the disk(s) but not much help, and while there's a lot of folks offering different solutions (repair install, or god forbid- fresh install) I thought that my ability to boot through TuneUp might offer a clue as to what's ailing me.
I have a computer with XPsp2 and would like to upgrade to XP pro. Does anyone have any recommendations or should I just plug it in and let the chips fall where they may?One more note, I do not have any OS disks except the XP Pro, that's why I want to change it.
I just purchased a new computer that came with XP Home SP2 and I tried to upgrade to XP Pro without SP2 and the system wouldn't let me because it says I have a newer version. My XP Pro disk is an upgrade version and I also have an XP2 disk to later upgrade Pro to Pro XP2.
I have been a user of XP Home SP2 for a number of years, and I have a legitimate OEM install of that on my machine right now. I want to purchase XP Pro SP2, but there are a lot of versions available. The cheaper side of things have 'OEM XP Pro SP2 Upgrade' in the range of $60-$80.Then there are Upgrade versions which do not mention OEM.And finally, there are Full Versions at the most expensive level. To make it more confusing, there are vendors which have listed "OEM XP Pro SP2 Full Version Upgrade"
I have an interesting upgrade dilemma.I had a PC at home with Windows 98. I legally bought in a store a Windows XP Pro SP1 upgrade disk 3 years ago to upgrade it. I eventually had Microsoft send me the free CD that upgrades to SP2.After 4 years, my PC completely died, motherboard failure. Being on a budget, I bought a PC with XP Home SP2 on it. I wanted to use my XP Pro disk to upgrade it (I would call Microsoft and explain the old PC was trashed, etc. to "reactivate"). But it says that I can't upgrade because the disk is an "older version", I presume because of the SP1 vs. SP2 issue. Is there any way I can do it with the disks I have?
My 'puter upgraded itself (windows i think) and then froze. I restarted it and now after I go to F8 and try everything, like (configure to..., safe mode..etc) it just go to black screen of purgatory. I go into bios and look at it like I know wtf I am doing and leave and then back to that screen of eternal damnation. Now before I launch my CPU out of my pumpkin gun. I don't have a start up disk nor anything backed up, that's how i roll.
