View 7 Replies View RelatedI like the Metro app because it is the simplest to understand and I believe I do know *all* other ways to read SD card data into any folder I choose.
Autoplay has been properly selected. I put the SD card into the slot and immediately the files are read, but when they are selected and imported they end up in the default folder "Pictures." I really don't believe there is any way to change this folder if I insist on using the Metro app, but is there??
I never had a problem with image backup creation before with Win 8 using the utility Windows 7 File Recovery. I am aware that this utility is gone in Win 8.1 and the same utility is now under File History. I've tried using this new utility last night to create a backup image of Win 8.1 and it failed 4x until I gave up and used Macrium instead. Is the image created in Macrium fully supported in Win 8.1? I know it works with Win 8. But Win 8.1 is a total overhaul and I just wanna make sure I have an image that will work when I need it.
View 13 Replies View RelatedWhenever I press restart on my windows 8.1 pc. Windows thinks it needs to start a new user profile on my profile. It says its installing apps and ready to start. Then None of my apps are present and my desktop is clear and nothing works. THen If I power off and leave it off for 30 minutes it works as if nothing happened and my user profile has all the apps and icons on the desktop again.
This only happens if I press restart in windows. It does not happen when I power off. What is going on with my windows 8.1...
I have a Synology DS213+ NAS which is running well. Since upgrading to Windows 8.x I now get an error every time I try to copy/move a file or folder from the NAS to a UAC protected directory, i.e. C:
The error is: "Location is not available. P: is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure that the device or drive is connected..." it goes on.
Anyway, if I copy the file to the desktop first, or another non UAC folder, its fine.
I am aware of Windows 8.1 causing some other issues with the NAS so I have disabled SMB2 and Large MTU.
I have witnessed this exact same problem on someone else's 213+ and Windows 8.1 so I know I am not alone.
I have a Win 8.1 tablet and I'm the only user. Is there any way to disable the creation of new local accounts?

View 5 Replies View RelatedUnder Win 8 Pro 64-bit, I discovered the following oddity: When I try to mount an ISO image using the Windows' built-in mounting function, it works when the the ISO is located on a local drive, but NOT if it is on a network drive (linked to my NAS). The latter case yields an error saying that mounting failed without further explanation. (YES, the Iso file type is associated to Windows Explorer and YES, there is a spare drive letter after the local drive letters; actually my local drives are from B: (DVD) to D:, and the network drives are between F: and Z:, so that a mounted ISO receives a virtual drive at E: .
Qny better solution than installing third-party mounting software like DaemonTools?
I keep getting this error when I try to create or delete a folder. I also cannot use applications which create temporary folder such as WinRAR.
The error says this: "An unexpected error is keeping you from creating the folder. If you continue receive this error, you can use the error code to search for solution of this problem. Error 0x80070570: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."
I tried all the possible options to solve this problem except for reinstalling the Windows.
Trying to delete a folder I get "Folder Access Denied" -- need to provide administrator permission to delete this folder. I am the only account on this PC an am Administrator. I click continue and get the same message with "Try Again".

I am new to windows 8 and started copying my photos to my new laptop. I placed them into the Pictures Folder but noticed it wasn't using any space in the D drive. View 5 Replies View RelatedPrior versions of Windows included sample photos, videos and music files from Microsoft.
I have a new install of Windows 8 Home, 64 Bit OEM version and when I look in My Pictures, My Videos, and My Music these libraries are empty. In the past after installing Windows, I used these files to do a quick check to see that sound card and other parts of the system were working. I went to try that in Windows 8 and no files!
I do not know if they are there but in a new location, or if they are no longer included, or if something went wrong with the install, or something else.
I am also not finding any sample photos when I start up the Photo Tile App.
This issue it happens for too long I can't open photos of any kind with the windows photo viewer, I don't know how it happened and I don't remember when. When I try to open nothing happens.. its like something happens for a fraction of a second and nothing. I tried almost everything, well, accept for restore but there is no chance I am doing it the cost is too big.
I just noticed that when i try to view a photo file, two processes pop for a fraction of a sec and immediately disappear, one is COM Surrogate and the other Windows Problem Reporting.

I discovered that it looks like any folder containing photos or pictures gets added to the app.
Any way to restrict folder additions to those contained in a specific folder on the hard drive,[e.g. " Pictures"]...
All those programs that are present when you first open a Windows 8 desktop like Reader, Photos, etc. You know, the one's you want to replaces real fast with good programs have stopped working. Not that I want to use them or depend on them but it does bug me they all stopped. I don't see a way to uninstall them if they are not going to work. If they have to remain on the pc I would like them to work in any case.
why all these minimum use programs have stopped. And if the fix is drastic of course I wouldn't attempt it.
If I Right Click on the Photos app on the start menu the option "Turn live tile on/off" is missing. I used Windows 8 before upgrading, and I remember it had the option. I wanted to have a small slideshow of my photo gallery on the live tile.
Other apps (such as mail, weather, store etc) are not missing the option and are working fine. I know that the preview version didn't have this problem.
I am new to Windows 8. I emailed myself a .jpg photo as an email attachment (in yahoo email), from a different computer. When I try to save the attached photo to my own computer, the options are to save as "webpage complete" or as "HTML." I don't want to do either of those. I want to save it as a .jpg-format image in a folder of my choice on my computer.
Also, when I click on the attached photo, it opens in some unnamed Windows 8 imaging app that takes up the whole screen. I don't know what I am supposed to do with it (there are no explanations or options, or even any text that tells what the app is called or what it is supposed to be doing), and I can't get rid of it unless I press the keyboard key with the picture of a window on it, and then get back into my browser (Chrome). If I knew the name of this intrusive imaging app, maybe I could uninstall it, or at least reconfigure Windows 8 to make it save images in the format I want them in and in the folder where I want it to save them, so I can manipulate them the way I want to (in my case, with Paint Shop Pro).
The Photos app on my Windows 8.1 Pro PC won't show any pictures either in the Pictures Library or in OneDrive. It only can display folders but not pictures. In other Windows Store apps, another weird things happens. The photos show up but with no thumbnails. I tried a reformat and reinstall and the problem disappeared. That is until I signed in my Microsoft account. The problem comes back.
NOTE: I'm using Hotspot Shield because an error appears every time I install Windows updates or Windows Store apps. I use Hotspot Shield to bypass this error but even disabling it doesn't solve the problem.
First I thought it was slow. Then I got tired of waiting and figured out how to associate all my photos with the windows photo viewer from the desktop apps like I was used to with Windows 7
However, I would like to give it a fair chance to work. So, I am posting here.
When I click on the photo app, it shows some folders, sometimes it kicks me back to the desktop before I can click anytime. Other times, it may show a photo for a few seconds before kicking me back. Either way, this is not acceptable.
The app is not closing. It is still running because if I click the left corner, I see it and can access it again, if over for a second.
Is this experience common. I have had my windows 8 pc a week and I switched over to windows 8.1 about two days after I initially got it setup. I am a very experienced Windows 7 user. I am trying to be open minded about this new operating system.
I have downloaded, and, I think, disabled autoarrange. I am now able to rearrange the photos in a standard desktop file. However, it does not carry over to my photo gallery. There is probably a step I have failed to complete, but I can't find it.

Can I do it with what is already in Windows 8 or do I need to download software? One possibility seems to be pic resize.
