Windows 8 Programs Provided Such As Reader Photos Stopped

All those programs that are present when you first open a Windows 8 desktop like Reader, Photos, etc. You know, the one's you want to replaces real fast with good programs have stopped working. Not that I want to use them or depend on them but it does bug me they all stopped. I don't see a way to uninstall them if they are not going to work. If they have to remain on the pc I would like them to work in any case.
why all these minimum use programs have stopped. And if the fix is drastic of course I wouldn't attempt it.
I need a shortcut that would lead to "Computer". The problem is however, I don't seem to figure out where and what "Computer" actually is. Is it a folder? Is it an executable? Where is it? I also would like my shortcut to be pointing at "Computer" properties when "Properties" is clicked, similar to "Computer" shortcut that can be placed on the "Start" menu. This is something a regular shortcut just won't do? You might have a question of your own by now: Why would you need a shortcut if you can get one for your "Start" menu? Well, I need it to be on the taskbar instead, and this is something that has to be done manually. Is there a way to accomplish this?
why it is that I have trouble browsing in high speed despite the fact that the wireless adapter receives data at 1 Mbps minimum? I haven't been able to watch videos on Youtube, read the news etc because the browser takes ages to load the full page. I checked which applications are connected and they haven't exchanged much data as you can see below:

Anyway, our problem right now is with PDF documents, she can download & view PDF's if she downloads them, but she's not a computer guru like me and just wants to view them in firefox when she clicks on them inside the browser window, but for some reason PDF's won't load in firefox, and we're not sure why.
Does that functionality require Java or flash or something? otherwise we're not sure what could be causing it. sure we're missing something though. Why PDF's aren't loading in firefox in Windows 8.1?

I get error saying "invalid function in Dynamic Link Library C:windowssystem32dxtrans.dl error window appears and continues to appear over and over after pressing OK until you either restart the computer, or somehow close the running task, but I've yet to figure out how to get to the task manager since this WIndows 8 stuff is still very new to me. I keep telling her for now she can download the pdf's and use the built in adobe reader, but apparently she's been having issues with that too lately. I think she wants to be able to read them in her web browser but without being able to install adobe reader she's not able to do that so.
I just purchased new Insignia multi-card reader connected to machine, got the windows connected sound, but nothing in the windows exporer pane (what was My computer in XP and Win 7)...went ahead and connected my cf card... still nothing, should show Nikon D3 (all may cards are named for the camera they get shot in ) ... ???

The default PDF opener (Windows Reader) opens my PDF fine but the links are just text, they are not hyperlinks. It works fine in 7. How I can get these hyperlinks working?
I have Adobe Reader 11.06 installed. I can open a single pdf perfectly well from Explorer, but when I double click on a second pdf to open it, nothing happens (it doesn't open). This only happens when I already have one instance of Adobe Reader open - opening the first pdf works just fine. And if I close the first one, I can open the other file (I just can't open them simultaneously). Opening a second file from Adobe Reader's open file dialogue also works fine.
After some investigation, it seems that when I open multiple PDFs on my SSD (which Windows is installed to), it works perfectly. It only runs into issues when opening PDFs located on another hard drive, which is an issue for me because my Dropbox folder is hosted on a separate hard drive.
All you have to do is disable security measures in Adobe Reader XI (Edit -> Preferences -> Security (Enhanced) -> Sandbox Protection -> Enable Protected Mode at startup -> turn off).
After installation Digital Persona 6.2.1.300 on clean Windows 8.1 x64 it can't find reader. Drivers for reader from support.dell.com, 5460_Security_Driver_N0FYH_WN_4.5.226.0_A00. After update DP to 6.2.1.309a problem is not solved.
When I upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8 the SD Card Reader on my Dell Latitude E5430 stopped working. It does not even appear in Windows Explorer. I installed all drivers on the Dell site.
So somehow my main default printer got moved to the 'More' selection in CTRL+P of Windows 8 Reader. On the right hand side all I have is my PrinterShare (remote printer). I have to click 'More' then I see my Fax and my OfficeJet pop up. How to I move my officejet to the front line like it used to be?
I recently just upgraded to windows 8 and notice that my media card reader is not working. My usb works fine but when I try putting in my memory card on the slot, nothing happens. Is there a program I have to download or a driver??
Recently my mom visited a website that tricked her. She downloaded and installed some stuff she didn't need. I removed the stuff but noticed some other problems. I'm not sure if these are new problems caused by the useless stuff she installed.
Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features is not showing all installed programs. Oddly, the only listed installed programs have names that start with the letter M. 14 programs are listed. See picture. Start Menu -> All Programs -> I suspect some programs are missing. I have a Win 7 style Start menu because I am using IObit's Start Menu 8 program. Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools was empty. I fixed that by using SFC /SCANNOW.
I tried using System Restore to go back to an earlier date, but that didn't work. In the process of trying to do that I discovered that BitDefender Internet Security 2014 doesn't get along with Windows 8.1's System Restore feature. I uninstalled BitDefender and successfully went back to an earlier date but still had the same problems with missing programs. I undid the restore. I created a new Windows user account. The new account had the same issues: missing programs in the Start menu and Programs and Features menu.
On Windows 8.1, when I open Programs and Features in Control Panel, it does not show all of my installed programs. I am trying to remove some programs and they are not listed.
I downloaded all the driver for windows 8 by using service tag of my laptop. When I install JMicron Card Reader driver, I always get an error: "Installation fail!" how do I fix it.
I hate the PDF reader on windows8. It opens the PDF and I cannot minimize it or put another program in front of it. Is there a way to minimize it or a better pdf reader aside from adobe?
I am new to windows 8 and started copying my photos to my new laptop. I placed them into the Pictures Folder but noticed it wasn't using any space in the D drive. So somehow (not really sure what I did) I've ended up moving my photos to the D Drive but in the process my Pictures Folder has changed to D:
Windows 8 problems. How to easily and quickly download selected photos from my camera. When I tried it was taking forever as the system seemed to be going through opening every single photo on my camera and I gave up waiting. I just want to be able to download the latest ones not all of the ones I have on my camera.
My photos (regardless if I view them in metro or a desktop folder) won't fill the entire screen. Instead there is a black bar on the left and right of the photo. How do I make images take up the entire screen? I have a Vaio Tap 20 inch all in one with the latest version of windows 8.
I just downloaded Adobe reader 11, and have been trying to open pdf files from the "My Documents" folder. Specifically files that I have just written and saved from MS Word. Adobe says: "There was an error opening this document. Access denied." However, if I save the file into the Downloads folder, it will open no problem.
I have been having some strange issues with transfers from a USB 3.0 compact flash reader lately. When I start the transfer the speeds top out at 130 Mb/s but soon drop to 0 Mb/s. This seems to happen the moment that Windows 8 "populates" the Explorer window. When I am getting normal speeds explorer shows no files in it's window that have transferred. Once the files that have transferred populate the window the transfer drops significantly for the remaining transfer. I have recorded a small video to show this. Very bizarrre. Almost seems like an indexing thing.
When trying to print from Devices "charm" in Microsoft Reader, my default printer is not shown. It shows up in Printers on the desktop. Reader does show, however, a fax version of my printer, which is NOT installed. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the printer....no change.
I'm using a HP Officejet 7310 printer, which has the most current driver, and works in all other Windows apps.
I use a card and card reader for accessing lock boxes in my real estate profession. The company is called Sentrilock. I have installed their card reader utility and when I insert the card into the usb card reader, an internet window opens [URL]
If everything is working properly, there is supposed to be a green bar at the top of the screen to renew my card. It does not appear, tech support at Sentrilock says ports need to be open in the firewall but they couldn't give me further information.

I've noticed that SmartCard service is running at my Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit system. I don't use smart cards and don't need it. I've also read Black Viper's Windows 8.1 Services guidance and noted that this service was presented there as disabled in every configuration.
Somehow, on my machine it has been automatically enabled. My machine (Dell Precision M4800) has a fingerprint reader - can it be related to this service? I'd rather expect it to be related to Windows Biometric Services yet this one has always been disabled on my machine...
Is it safe for me to disable SmartCard service or what other function / application may need it?
How to change the Start Page background. About a month ago, I pasted a picture on my Photos background (Commander Riker is standing there with a horrified look, explaining "It all started with Windows 8!" But the picture is blurry.
Prior versions of Windows included sample photos, videos and music files from Microsoft.
I have a new install of Windows 8 Home, 64 Bit OEM version and when I look in My Pictures, My Videos, and My Music these libraries are empty. In the past after installing Windows, I used these files to do a quick check to see that sound card and other parts of the system were working. I went to try that in Windows 8 and no files!
I do not know if they are there but in a new location, or if they are no longer included, or if something went wrong with the install, or something else.
I am also not finding any sample photos when I start up the Photo Tile App.
This issue it happens for too long I can't open photos of any kind with the windows photo viewer, I don't know how it happened and I don't remember when. When I try to open nothing happens.. its like something happens for a fraction of a second and nothing. I tried almost everything, well, accept for restore but there is no chance I am doing it the cost is too big.
I just noticed that when i try to view a photo file, two processes pop for a fraction of a sec and immediately disappear, one is COM Surrogate and the other Windows Problem Reporting.
