Dell :: XPS 420 - Bluetooth / Media Card Reader Driver For Windows 8

May 25, 2014

I have a Dell XPS 420 PC that I've upgraded to Windows 8. I'm now unable to connect my bluetooth headset.

How I can install an updated driver for the Media Card Reader and Bluetooth (its combined)?

Hardware Drivers :: Updating Driver For Realtek PCIE Card Reader

Jan 19, 2014

In the device manager, under memory technology devices, I have Realtek PCIE CardReader Properties displayed twice. The two locations are: PCI bus 2, device 0, function 0; and PCI bus 2, device 0, function 1. Dell offered a driver update for the cardreader which I installed. Only 1 of these 2 actually updated.

My question is do I need to update both or is one enough?

Hardware Drivers :: SD Card Not Being Recognized With Internal Card Reader?

Sep 15, 2014

I have the very latest Windows 8.1 update.

My internal multi card reader has been working fine for just under a year but just recently it has stopped recognising SD cards. When I insert a card it normally opens an explorer window but now it does nothing and does not show in file explorer.

Though if I click on .. file explorer/manage/disk management .. it then opens an explorer window for the card.

I have the setting in autoplay - memory card and removable drive set to open explorer.

I don't think the card reader is becoming faulty.

Transfer From USB Card Reader Stalls On Population

Jan 27, 2014

I have been having some strange issues with transfers from a USB 3.0 compact flash reader lately. When I start the transfer the speeds top out at 130 Mb/s but soon drop to 0 Mb/s. This seems to happen the moment that Windows 8 "populates" the Explorer window. When I am getting normal speeds explorer shows no files in it's window that have transferred. Once the files that have transferred populate the window the transfer drops significantly for the remaining transfer. I have recorded a small video to show this. Very bizarrre. Almost seems like an indexing thing.

Hardware Drivers :: Internal Card Reader Device Keep Disappearing / Reappearing

Nov 17, 2013

I'm using Windows 8 x64, all updated, which had been working without problem for about 8 months now.

I noticed my internel card reader drives (9 pin USB header) kept disappearing and reappearing quickly, in both My Computer, and Device Manager. So I assumed it was dying and bought a new one, but it too did the same thing, so assumed it must be the USB connecter dying, and left it unplugged, and orderd an external card reader (yet to arrive).

Sadly my USB flash drives and USB hard drives started doing the same thing, front and back ports, these drives will disappear and reappear a few times then work as normal, weird thing is my USB printer, mouse, keyboard, and Sansa Clip+ work fine.

I tried testing in WinPE v4, and Linux (Ubuntu LiveCD) and everything seems to be working fine, including the internel card reader. So I reinstalled Windows 8 after trying fixes like uninstalling the USB Root entries in Device Manager, and messing with the USB power saving options in Windows, even though they're at the defaults and never caused problems before, but the internel card reader was doing the same thing again before even doing any updates, or installing drivers.

I have found a workaround for the reader, if I disable it within Device Manger before putting a card in, and then enabling the device it works, but once ejected it goes back to disappearing and reappearing again.

The PC is a Dell Inspiron 531.

Dell :: Bluetooth Not Seeing Anything

Dell Inspiron 17

Windows 8.1

Intel Core i3-227U CPU @ 1.90GHz

4.00 GB (3.88 GB usable)

64-bit OS, x64-based processor

I have turned everything on including sharing, etc.  I first noticed there was a problem yesterday when I tried connecting to a Sony Soundbar.  It didn't find anything in the room.  I attempted to connect my Blackberry to my laptop and it couldn't find that either. Blackberry connected to the Sony Soundbar and my hands free ear piece.  So I attempted Dell CS and they told me I was 2 weeks beyond my warranty and it would cost me $129 one time fee or $239 1 year unlimited.  I find that this was completely unwarranted considering how long I've been a customer and how many computers I have purchased from them in my lifetime.  My warranty ended on 8/15/14.  I've had nothing but problems with this laptop and even had to re-install the entire OS back in May due to a BSOD drivers error crash.  I mean, come on.

Setup Installation :: Windows 8 Install - Load Media Driver

Jan 22, 2013

I am trying to install a oem copy of windows 8 64 bit onto my desktop, using a microsoft install dvd. I've installed xp, vista, and windows 7 onto it without any issues whatsoever, however when trying to install windows 8, I keep getting an error in windows setup that states the following:

Load Driver : A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USP or Hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now.

Since I'm using an actual microsoft disc, and the hash checks out okay, I'm not really sure how to proceed, as it doesn't seem to be the disc image.

The solutions I've come across are vague, and usually relate to USB/VMware installs instead of using a retail DVD. How I can get past this error?

My system:
EVGA Z77 FTW Mobo, updated firmware/bios
Intel 3770k CPU
Antec Quattro 1000 PSU
Kingston HyperX 3K SSD

Can't Reinstall Windows 8 Pro With Media Center On Dell

May 20, 2014

I'm trying to reinstall win8 Pro w/ Media Center on an older Dell C2D system for a friend. She has no discs as she got it from her brother for x-mas a little while back and she's unable to get them as he lives out of state.

I used a program to extract the keys, but it seems that the media center add-on has overridden the pro key and it wont let me install windows. I noticed it gave me an internet explorer key that was different from the win8 key, but it rejected that too.

Is there a way to extract the original win8 pro key? I couldn't seem to find anything with google.

Dell Inspiron Running Windows 8 - No Boot Device Found / Checking Media Fail

Apr 3, 2014

My (12-year-old) son's computer won't boot. It's a Dell Inspiron 17" running Windows 8, bought from Costco in July 2013. When I turn it on, Dell logo comes on and then in upper left it says "Checking Media [fail]", then "checking media" again, then "No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine". I insert a USB recovery drive (it was made for my Toshiba that runs Windows 8.1, but it should work anyway, right?).

I choose US keyboard layout and it then opens into Recovery Environment. I choose Troubleshoot → Refresh Your PC. Message appears "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." I go to Troubleshoot → Startup Repair, which runs and then says "Startup Repair couldn't repair your PC." I then go back to Troubleshoot → Command Prompt and run chkdsk on Windows drive (c). It says "Windows has checked the file system and found no problems." Dell would probably tell me it's a hard drive failure and tell me to buy another one.

Driver Power State Failure On Dell XPS 13

May 15, 2014

I have had about 5 crashes in the last month. Below are 2 of them from the whocrashed report. I tried googling this issue, but most of what I found is specific to a driver. My whocrashed report does not mention a specific driver. This is a Dell XPS 13 which I bought only about a month ago. Also, I should mention that in Device Manager, there is a yellow exclamation next to "Generic PnP monitor" and when I click properties, under device status it says:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

{Unable to Load Device Driver}
%hs device driver could not be loaded.
Error Status was 0x%x"

I do not use an external monitor, so I'm guessing it's referring to my laptop screen. Not sure if this is relevant to the crashes or not.
