I have a Dell XPS 420 PC that I've upgraded to Windows 8. I'm now unable to connect my bluetooth headset.
How I can install an updated driver for the Media Card Reader and Bluetooth (its combined)?
In the device manager, under memory technology devices, I have Realtek PCIE CardReader Properties displayed twice. The two locations are: PCI bus 2, device 0, function 0; and PCI bus 2, device 0, function 1. Dell offered a driver update for the cardreader which I installed. Only 1 of these 2 actually updated.
My question is do I need to update both or is one enough?
When I upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8 the SD Card Reader on my Dell Latitude E5430 stopped working. It does not even appear in Windows Explorer. I installed all drivers on the Dell site.

My internal multi card reader has been working fine for just under a year but just recently it has stopped recognising SD cards. When I insert a card it normally opens an explorer window but now it does nothing and does not show in file explorer.
Though if I click on .. file explorer/manage/disk management .. it then opens an explorer window for the card.
I have the setting in autoplay - memory card and removable drive set to open explorer.
I don't think the card reader is becoming faulty.
I have the Dell Studio 1458 and i have Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64, When I try to install the video card which is: ATI Readeon Mobility HD 5400. I got Errors that say "there was an error when trying to install driver" (on devmgmt.msc).
Where can i find the correct drivers this version?

Although there are already quite a few drivers for Windows 8, I can't find an updated version fo the touchpad-driver /-software. I don't want to seem impatient, I'd just like to know if DELL is aware of this and if an ipdated version is planned.

I just purchased new Insignia multi-card reader connected to machine, got the windows connected sound, but nothing in the windows exporer pane (what was My computer in XP and Win 7)...went ahead and connected my cf card... still nothing, should show Nikon D3 (all may cards are named for the camera they get shot in ) ... ???

I have been having some strange issues with transfers from a USB 3.0 compact flash reader lately. When I start the transfer the speeds top out at 130 Mb/s but soon drop to 0 Mb/s. This seems to happen the moment that Windows 8 "populates" the Explorer window. When I am getting normal speeds explorer shows no files in it's window that have transferred. Once the files that have transferred populate the window the transfer drops significantly for the remaining transfer. I have recorded a small video to show this. Very bizarrre. Almost seems like an indexing thing.

I use a card and card reader for accessing lock boxes in my real estate profession. The company is called Sentrilock. I have installed their card reader utility and when I insert the card into the usb card reader, an internet window opens [URL]
If everything is working properly, there is supposed to be a green bar at the top of the screen to renew my card. It does not appear, tech support at Sentrilock says ports need to be open in the firewall but they couldn't give me further information.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, the screen is broke so I use an external monitor which doesn't project BIOS or Boot up so I cannot see anything. I found a thread on here that adds the Intel Graphics Driver for Mobile 4 Series for Windows 8 which I supposed would work on 8.1.
The link I installed:
Mobile Intel Series 4 and Intel HD Graphics 1st Generation. I installed it and restarted the laptop for the GUI to start.
But as I restarted, the screen was blank. I tried cycling through projection modes as I usually do, but this time It didn't work.
I have no clue of how to remove the driver to as I cannot see anything on the external monitor as I've tried it on 2.
I've tried booting into Safe Mode but as I've said, I cannot see anything on the screen so I'm not sure where I am.
I'm using Windows 8 x64, all updated, which had been working without problem for about 8 months now.
I noticed my internel card reader drives (9 pin USB header) kept disappearing and reappearing quickly, in both My Computer, and Device Manager. So I assumed it was dying and bought a new one, but it too did the same thing, so assumed it must be the USB connecter dying, and left it unplugged, and orderd an external card reader (yet to arrive).
Sadly my USB flash drives and USB hard drives started doing the same thing, front and back ports, these drives will disappear and reappear a few times then work as normal, weird thing is my USB printer, mouse, keyboard, and Sansa Clip+ work fine.
I tried testing in WinPE v4, and Linux (Ubuntu LiveCD) and everything seems to be working fine, including the internel card reader. So I reinstalled Windows 8 after trying fixes like uninstalling the USB Root entries in Device Manager, and messing with the USB power saving options in Windows, even though they're at the defaults and never caused problems before, but the internel card reader was doing the same thing again before even doing any updates, or installing drivers.
I have found a workaround for the reader, if I disable it within Device Manger before putting a card in, and then enabling the device it works, but once ejected it goes back to disappearing and reappearing again.

I get error saying "invalid function in Dynamic Link Library C:windowssystem32dxtrans.dl error window appears and continues to appear over and over after pressing OK until you either restart the computer, or somehow close the running task, but I've yet to figure out how to get to the task manager since this WIndows 8 stuff is still very new to me. I keep telling her for now she can download the pdf's and use the built in adobe reader, but apparently she's been having issues with that too lately. I think she wants to be able to read them in her web browser but without being able to install adobe reader she's not able to do that so.
I own a XPS L702X laptop purchased in 2011. Laptop has driver support from Dell for Win 7 and Win 8. But windows 8 drivers aren't working with windows 8.1 and i don't think Dell is in the mood to provide drivers for a laptop which is already 2+ years old.
So i had to collect drivers by myself. I have already got most of the native drivers from Intel/nVidia/Realtek websites.But not able to find the Quickset software. Currently using the one which was released for windows 8, and it gives error when i open the windows mobility center. And after installing, it doesn't remove the "Unknown Device" icon from device manager like it used to do in windows 8 .
Also need "ST Micro Screen Detection Sensor" driver. If i install the old windows 8 driver, it says incompatible with this version of windows.
I just install windows 8 using BIOS , but now i want to change it to UEFI boot. so i followed steps below
1.create and format a new FAT32 partition K:
2.my windows8 is in I: so , i use this command bcdboot i:windows /f all /s k: and succeeded.
3.i checked with the bootice about the BCD in my K: and found it indeed point to i:windows just like the picture below [URL]
4. and i restart, choose uefi boot in BIOS configuration and it showed like this: [URL]
5. i checked my k:/windows/system32/ , there is a winload.efi file... [URL]
The most strange thing is that i've copyed my winload.efi to other computer which is already in UEFI mode , and also i've copyed it in my virtual machine, it works fine! So my winload.efi should be OK.
My Dell Latitude D830 won't reboot in any manner - windows fail to start. It starts on well, shows the Dell logo, loads the files on prompt and gets stuck on one of the files with 'Please wait...'
The problem it is the only Dell machine around and I lost my recovery key. I have useful files therein that I would like to recover and backup but it would not get even to the C: prompt by any option. How can can I create a recovery disk from the web or I must get another Dell machine? This is acutely an emergency for any asap response will go along way for me.
How can I create the recovery without a dell machine?
After installation Digital Persona 6.2.1.300 on clean Windows 8.1 x64 it can't find reader. Drivers for reader from support.dell.com, 5460_Security_Driver_N0FYH_WN_4.5.226.0_A00. After update DP to 6.2.1.309a problem is not solved.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy (12-year-old) son's computer won't boot. It's a Dell Inspiron 17" running Windows 8, bought from Costco in July 2013. When I turn it on, Dell logo comes on and then in upper left it says "Checking Media [fail]", then "checking media" again, then "No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine". I insert a USB recovery drive (it was made for my Toshiba that runs Windows 8.1, but it should work anyway, right?).
I choose US keyboard layout and it then opens into Recovery Environment. I choose Troubleshoot → Refresh Your PC. Message appears "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." I go to Troubleshoot → Startup Repair, which runs and then says "Startup Repair couldn't repair your PC." I then go back to Troubleshoot → Command Prompt and run chkdsk on Windows drive (c). It says "Windows has checked the file system and found no problems." Dell would probably tell me it's a hard drive failure and tell me to buy another one.
I would like to know how I can run windows 8.1 or 8 on usb drive or sd card.
View 3 Replies View RelatedBackground: In August 2012 I upgraded my PC from Pentium 4 to Asus P8H61 M/B, Core-i3 CPU and 8GB DDR3 RAM. The M/B has the new Intel 1155 socket that doesn't natively support IDE devices. I had two old IDE/ATAPI DVD-RW drives that I wanted to keep alongside my new SATA BD-R drive, so I also bought an IDE/SATA PCI-E card. Before the upgrade I had Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, but since now the RAM was increased to 8GB, I made a backup of my data and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. All hardware including the IDE card worked as expected, not issue so far.
How the problem occurred: Recently I decided to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro. To avoid all the hassle of another backup and clean installation, I cheated by doing an upgrade first to Windows 8 Pro 64-bit and then to Windows 8.1 Pro to have the newest version. After the upgrade I realized that most hardware had now Microsoft drivers while some devices (including the IDE card) were not installed. No problem, I updated the drivers to latest OEM versions (e.g. Intel, Realtek, nVidia etc.) for Windows 8/8.1 to make sure all my devices work at their full potential and all features as in Windows 7.
I didn't manage to make an old TV Tuner (BT878 chipset) work with custom 64-bit drivers (it was working fine in Windows 7 64-bit, see my other post) and the IDE card. For the IDE/SATA card I tried many JMicron JMX36X drivers, including the official latest ones from their site. The driver seems to install forever and after too many minutes it fails. However, the controller seems to have installed and my DVD-RW drives are recognized properly, but the computer hangs after restart at the Windows 8 boot screen with the spinning dots! If I manage to boot in safe mode (I enabled the legacy boot menu, so I can do it by pressing F8 at startup), the computer starts normally, the controller appears working without any issues at Device Manager and my IDE DVD-RW drives both appear as they should in "This Computer".
I even loaded a DVD and it was read properly and I could browse the files! Assuming now the controller is installed and works properly, I attempted to restart in normal mode. The same thing! The computer hangs forever at the Windows 8 logo with the spinning dots! I suspect some service or application is responsible for this. It probably doesn't load at Safe Mode, so Windows start in Safe Mode without any problem, but it tries to load at Normal Mode and it hangs the whole system! The only way to start my PC in Normal Mode is to disable the controller but then of course my IDE DVD-RW are also disabled and I cannot use them!
I want to continue using Windows 8.1, I don't want to go back to 7 just for a IDE card! Don't even think about suggesting me to do a format! I expect something smarter than that! Format will be the absolutely last solution when everything else fails, and I would rather ditch the card and my IDE drives than go through all this trouble. Besides it's not guaranteed that the card will work after the format. I may go through all the trouble for nothing, and I certainly don't want that!
Moved from windows 7 to 8.1 Now not able to install driver for the HP deskjet 6980.
followed the wizard (add printer) and used windows update, showing the printer, but refuses to install.
The msg: windows can not find suitable driver, despite the driver was on the windows update list, and the cmd screen flashes for two seconds, hence not able to see what is says.

All the new nvidia graphics drivers pass 314.22 has a well-documented crashing problem on certain models which I'm a victim to. So I always stay on 314.22. Problem is, windows is a bit too smart for its own good and keeps trying to install the newest version without asking or even prompting me. I can disable it from doing that by changing the "Device Installation Settings" to "Never install driver updates from windows update", but the problem I realized today is that this prevents windows from auto installing all other driver as well... for example, when I plugged in my printer, it said in order to auto install the driver I need to re-enable the auto driver update thing. The minute I re-enabled, BOOM, windows 8.1 re-installed the newest nvidia driver, and i had to spend more time rolling back and uninstalling all the parts I don't need, like HD audio, nvidia update, 3d vision .etc. etc
So my question is, is there anyway I can disable windows from updating that specific driver, or, if there is a way I can manually make windows install drivers for new devices (through windows and not driver hunting on manufacturer website) without having to enable the automatic driver update option.
P.S, when the setting is on "Never install driver updates from windows update", I see the nvidia update when I manually check for updates. So I tried hiding the update. Unfortunately, as soon as I let windows automatically install newest drivers, the nvidia driver installs anyway....
I was updating my drivers, and had wanted to update my Synaptics driver. I had removed the older version of Synaptics driver (because I was required to) and wanted to restart. My computer restarts, and I try to install the latest version of the Synaptics driver, it doesn't work. It says "install failed." I have tried multiple times.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm well aware that the gx270 is an older machine but I've upgraded it several times now with various hardware so I'm happy with it's performance. What Ii'm not happy with is it's inability to run W8 and Dell's lack of interest to keep up it's bios upgrades to adjust to new os or software. I've tried installing W8 and found that i hadn't got NX bit enabled on my processor.
I looked for it in the bios but couldn't find it so I ran coreinfo.exe and found my processor has nx bit capabilities but i can't turn it on or off in the bios. I've tried installing W8 from the setup in sources file but it failed on reboot with the same nx bit error code.
when i try to install a driver for the serial port PCI i get this error message : " Windows found a driver for your device but encountered an error while trying to install, installation of this device is forbidden by system policy. contact your system administrator . " knowing that i am the administrator!!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a dell 3521 laptop today. The first thing I did is backup the operating system to USD using the dell restore application. Then I installed the SSD and tried to restore my installation to the ssd. It fails because it says it can only be restored to a drive of 1TB (like the original hard drive.)
A restore dvd was not included in the system and I do not want to wait for 2 weeks untill I sort it out with dell to send me one. Any option in order to install windows 8 to the SSD without using the installation disk.
I thought of installing a previous windows licence I had (windows 7) , but when I try to install it from the bootable flash drive, it does not accept it as a bootable device. It must have something to do with the UEFI.
I've been salivating at the idea on installing W 8-64 Pro on a Dell Optiplex 755 at work. But a sudden reality check came over me & I realize Windows 8 doesn't necessarily work on older machines. The Dell is a Vista era machine. So maybe W 7-64 Pro would be a better choice?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI will install W8 enterprise on my dell latitude e6220. I got a dvd with the 32 bit enterprise iso and a txt file with the key. The txt file with the key says "works for pro and enterprise".
However, when I boot the dvd, it wont boot.. It only give me the blue w8 screen, but it wont go longer. A pop up says i need the 64 bit iso..
Can I download the 64 bit w8 enterprise iso from mdl and use my key..?? I suppose its an master key because the the company use the same key on hundred of w8 computers..
Next question: Is the language packs avabile in WU in enterprise?

I've recently acquired a tablet to pilot with my company. It is a Dell Latitude 10 ST2, and my issue is I'm trying to install and upgrade to Windows 8.1 Enterprise, but having no luck so far.
I have the 32-bit version of Win 8 Enterprise on a USB, and when I get to the "Installing Windows 8.1 screen" it get to 35%, and then gives a popup that the "Windows 8.1 Installation Has Failed". I was trying to see if there was a real error message or log to tell me what the issue is, but I haven't been able to locate anything yet. I don't even make it to the following screen ....
