How Can Computer Be Provided As A Link To Shortcut
Dec 1, 2012
I need a shortcut that would lead to "Computer". The problem is however, I don't seem to figure out where and what "Computer" actually is. Is it a folder? Is it an executable? Where is it? I also would like my shortcut to be pointing at "Computer" properties when "Properties" is clicked, similar to "Computer" shortcut that can be placed on the "Start" menu. This is something a regular shortcut just won't do? You might have a question of your own by now: Why would you need a shortcut if you can get one for your "Start" menu? Well, I need it to be on the taskbar instead, and this is something that has to be done manually. Is there a way to accomplish this?
how to delete link shortcuts out of the "Games" folder on Windows 8? I put a link shortcut in there by accident and it got stuck in there. I can't delete it or anything.
All those programs that are present when you first open a Windows 8 desktop like Reader, Photos, etc. You know, the one's you want to replaces real fast with good programs have stopped working. Not that I want to use them or depend on them but it does bug me they all stopped. I don't see a way to uninstall them if they are not going to work. If they have to remain on the pc I would like them to work in any case.
why all these minimum use programs have stopped. And if the fix is drastic of course I wouldn't attempt it.
why it is that I have trouble browsing in high speed despite the fact that the wireless adapter receives data at 1 Mbps minimum? I haven't been able to watch videos on Youtube, read the news etc because the browser takes ages to load the full page. I checked which applications are connected and they haven't exchanged much data as you can see below:
I have a recovery partition and use it quite often if I encounter any problems which are very few.
I use CuteFTP to upload to a server but like all the programs, when I do a recovery the software is lost as well and I have to do a reinstall of them including CuteFTP.
There is only a certain amount of times that the program can be activated, (obviously to stop it being installed on multiple pc's), which is where my problems lay.
I want to install the program on a second internal hard drive or on an external hard drive so it doesn't get removed when I do a system recovery. What I don't know is how do I link to CuteFTP after the recovery has completed.
So to sum up, how to link to a program previously installed on other than the C: drive ?
Bought windows 8, and everything immediately opens if my mouse is over. I don't click, it is just over a link, or an app, and it is opens. And YES, I did not chose at mouse setup, the function. What to do?
I upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1, and now I can't access the Windows app store. When I click on the tile, it flashes once and then my desktop opens (I have Start8 installed). Never had this issue before.
When I'm on the main/first page and put my cursor on a link (cursor won't turn into hand) then when I click it just started saying Opp's then top left circle spins then goes to a page to download something I don't want or bogus.
Another big problem, certain words will be highlighted and a window pop's up (different windows) and want allow me to go to the webpage I want.
This has been happening sense I purchased my new computer wit Win.8
Example: the words on the page highlighted is where I want to go, but a small window pops up and says Best cities to work or Free Local Job Search. Its has a icon to close the windows but when I do it will go to another download type page.
Is there a setting in IE or Firefox to turn that problem OFF ? See on this page there IS NOT a word that is highlighted and what I click I go to.
In IE 11, if I click on a link on a page, then click the back arrow to leave that page, and go back to the original page, it takes me to the top of the original page, rather than were I was on that page. I think there must be a setting that controls this, but I can't find it.
Firefox 26.0 64 bit windows installer link? The portable runs fine but it's too much hassle to set as default. Any clean link to FF installer? (Not Pale Moon or Waterfox but the Firefox 26.0 x64)
All I can find is the 26.0 Portable link on Softpedia.
Is there any way to link directories on several DIFFERENT HDD's to the SAME top directory / library.
Trying a Multi-media server with video files on HDD1, HDD2, HDD3.
What I want is to say create a top level directory videos, then under that directories video1, video2 and video3,so my application which says Multi-media folder -- I could point to directory videos -- then I'd get the 3 folders as part of the top level directory.
(Using Spanned disks can work but I'd rather not go down that route these days as the 3 disks I want to use are EXTERNAL HDD's and spanned disks need ALL the drives to be available and if there's any error you lose THE LOT. !!! )
With Linux it's easy -- just create 4 directories in your /home folder say /mnt/videos as top level, then in this directory create 3 sub directories /mnt/videos1, /mnt/videos2, mnt/videos 3
then mount the devices /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdb2, /devsdb3 in /mnt/videos1, mnt/videos2, mnt/videos3
then browsing your home directory with mnt/videos you'll see all the data files in the 3 directories from all 3 HDD's -- no matter what their size, -- you only need a FEW BYTES too in your home directory !!. You don't actually copy or move any data from the HDD's to these directories. Things like search are great too since you point the search at the top level directory and the system will scan all the sub directories (so all 3 disks) too.
A lot of multi-media type programs seem only to handle ONE top level folder so when the HDD is full you are stuffed -- maybe limitations of the windows file system. I've seen somewhere that you can use some type of links if you have multiple devices but can't find it.
How does a NAS device handle multiple HDD's within the server.
The old library feature was half way there but in Windows 8.1 that feature seems to have GONE.
When reading an email in the windows 8.1 mail app, if the sender of the email has typed a url it should come up us a direct link to be opened in your default browser...right? mine does not, i have taken a screenshot and attached it to this thread
I have tried all different ways to do this but it is not working for me. I want to send a link in an email a clickable one it also does not work in copy and paste , [URL] ..... this is what i want to send ....
I installed the windows 8.1 update. In the new internet explorer 11 every web site i visit, every link i click on either a new tab opens or a pop-up appears with some random advertisement. the only way i can make it stop is if i increase the security for the browser threw internet options, however if i do that it also doesnt allow images to load any more. in addition, sometimes the add will appear on the left hand side of the webpage and squish the content of the page to the right making it unreadable.
How do I do that? I am brand new with Windows 8, outlook.com is my default mail program...whether I chose that I do not remember..I don't think I did.
If I'm using Chrome and the "email this page" feature or using IE 10 and using the "emial with windows live", neither of them sends a clickable link. Why not? Is this fixable?
My notebook is setup with a local account instead being logged in with a Microsoft. Since Microsoft doesn't allow you to use OneDrive in Windows 8.1 with a local or network domain, I'm using the program syncDriver so I can continue using OneDrive on my notebook.
The issue I'm having is that when I add a link to OneDrive in my Windows Explorer Favorites, the link will get removed at some point without my interaction. My guess is that Windows is removing the link from favorites but I can't figure out when or why it's doing this.
IE 11 is slow and tells me this page can not be displayed after clicking on a link. after I click on the link again it usually opens up. sometimes it takes 2 or 3 clicks to open the page.
I have used Malware bytes, but have no malware. I think it started after May 5th. Did we get an update on May 6th that could have caused that?
I have this usb 2 wireless adapter which worked fine on windows 7, ive just installed Windows 8 and have tried to install this WLAN adapter but its not working. It comes up in device manager as a usb 2.0 WLAN with drivers not installed but when I try and manually install them I just get The hash for the file is not present in the specified catalog file error
With a website opened on the desktop that I want to send the 'link' or 'page' by email, I go to 'Page', (top right), but both the 'Send page by email' & the 'Send link by email' are greyed-out. They won't even work if I select/highlight the page first. Why? How do you normally accomplish the same thing with a site from the 'Start screen'?
Using windows 8.1 pro. While using facebook I wanted to watch a part film via a youtube link, so far ok but as soon as you go to full screen etc everything freezes the up comes the directive windows fixing problem, then ok but still cannot get full page,
When I'm on a website that has a link that says"Contact me" or other such words and I click on that link this is what it brings up. I think it started happening since I've installed Windows 8. The only way I can contact the person is to right-click and select "view source" where I can see the email address and then contact the person using that address.
I almost filled the hard disk C and would like to install other applications that discharge in the second harddisk D (microSDHC), wanting to make a symbolic link to the folder c program file windowsapp how can I do then to keep all permissions? using the function "Robocopy"?
I just upgraded the wireless card in my laptop to the Intel AC1200 7260.HMWWB. Based on my research, I thought this card would be pretty much backward compatible with every router specs... im still using a DLink DI-624. I see the available connection but.. cant connect. So it almost seems that my laptop's wireless is in worse shape now.. before it was sporadic but now with the updated and recommended card, I cant connect. Could this be an incompatibility issue with my router?
I noticed when I send a web page to anyone using Windows default mail program (Outlook) it will send the page as a Url address and not a clickable link. Is there a way to change this? Or should I change defalt mail handler? When I send page links from Chrome or my g-mail account it always sends the page as a link.
