In IE 11, if I click on a link on a page, then click the back arrow to leave that page, and go back to the original page, it takes me to the top of the original page, rather than were I was on that page. I think there must be a setting that controls this, but I can't find it.

When I have multiple tabs open and click the X in the upper right hand corner I get an option that asks me if I want to CLOSE ALL TABS - CLOSE CURRENT TAB. I always want to close just one tab. How can I suppress the display of the Close All Tabs - Close Current Tab question and still be able to close just one tab?
View 5 Replies View RelatedOnce something opens, even from desktop, it doesn't have a little red x in the corner and there doesn't seem to be a way to close it and return to where I was before. I can only either hit the windows button and go back to the page with all the apps, or swipe it down and do the same. But say I'm on desktop, I've got the internet open and I open up my pictures and double click a picture to see it larger- it then fills the whole screen and there's no way to go back to my desktop and what I was doing by just CLOSING it, rather I have to go back to the app page and then click on deskptop. Is there a way round this?

View 6 Replies View Related1) Firefox always hangs (Not Responding) when I try to close it.
2) Sometimes I am unable to kill the process from Task Manager or Process Explorer (access denied).
3) Sometimes it leaves behind a zombie process that can't be killed. I cannot launch a new Firefox process (it launches but stays hidden). The only solution is to reboot my computer.
4) If I leave Firefox open, after a while it becomes nonresponsive. I usually need to reboot the computer for reason 3 above.
I have seen similar behavior from Internet Explorer and iTunes, but not all the time. I am focusing on Firefox now because the problem is very repeatable.
I have scoured the internet looking for a solution but have come up empty. The Mozilla web site suggests I disable all add-ons, which I have done. This does not fix the problem, so it is something else. I have Norton Antivirus and have scanned my system for problems but it is clean (tried Malwarebytes too, but looks good). I have tried disabling my antivirus software (everything but the firewall) and still get the same problem. I have methodically gone through and made sure all of my drivers are up to date.
When I'm on the main/first page and put my cursor on a link (cursor won't turn into hand) then when I click it just started saying Opp's then top left circle spins then goes to a page to download something I don't want or bogus.
Another big problem, certain words will be highlighted and a window pop's up (different windows) and want allow me to go to the webpage I want.
This has been happening sense I purchased my new computer wit Win.8
Example: the words on the page highlighted is where I want to go, but a small window pops up and says Best cities to work or Free Local Job Search. Its has a icon to close the windows but when I do it will go to another download type page.
Is there a setting in IE or Firefox to turn that problem OFF ? See on this page there IS NOT a word that is highlighted and what I click I go to.
Firefox 26.0 64 bit windows installer link? The portable runs fine but it's too much hassle to set as default. Any clean link to FF installer? (Not Pale Moon or Waterfox but the Firefox 26.0 x64)
All I can find is the 26.0 Portable link on Softpedia.
When reading an email in the windows 8.1 mail app, if the sender of the email has typed a url it should come up us a direct link to be opened in your default browser...right? mine does not, i have taken a screenshot and attached it to this thread

If I'm using Chrome and the "email this page" feature or using IE 10 and using the "emial with windows live", neither of them sends a clickable link. Why not? Is this fixable?
IE 11 is slow and tells me this page can not be displayed after clicking on a link. after I click on the link again it usually opens up. sometimes it takes 2 or 3 clicks to open the page.
I have used Malware bytes, but have no malware. I think it started after May 5th. Did we get an update on May 6th that could have caused that?
With a website opened on the desktop that I want to send the 'link' or 'page' by email, I go to 'Page', (top right), but both the 'Send page by email' & the 'Send link by email' are greyed-out. They won't even work if I select/highlight the page first. Why? How do you normally accomplish the same thing with a site from the 'Start screen'?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI love how Metro IE11 works now in Windows 8.1. I was using a reddit app, opened an article, and it spawn a separate window for the IE browser to read a link. Works great. But one day, when it launched the IE browser, I was hearing a video that was completely unrelated to the link.
So I bring up the tabs and I had like 50 tabs open! When I close the IE browser that spawns from reddit or from a newsreader like News Bento, I just drag the app to the bottom of the screen to put away IE. That didn't terminate the tabs. So it was tedious to close each tab independently.
is there a way to close all tabs immediately?
Using windows 8.1 pro. While using facebook I wanted to watch a part film via a youtube link, so far ok but as soon as you go to full screen etc everything freezes the up comes the directive windows fixing problem, then ok but still cannot get full page,

I think it started happening since I've installed Windows 8. The only way I can contact the person is to right-click and select "view source" where I can see the email address and then contact the person using that address.

Mainly I'm interested in setting one specific folder as default for every time I right click on an image and choose save as. I'm tired of having to browse through to my images folder each and every time. It didn't used to do this until I upgraded to windows 8.1. I don't really use "libraries" as there are only two folders I use for downloads. One is for images. The other is for everything else. I don't mind having to browse to my downloads folder, just not the images folder as that is generally what I download the most since I work with graphics a lot.

Today when I try and access my folders I just getting a message saying 'no messages from the last 2 weeks', meaning I cannot access all those useful emails that I have kept on purpose without using gmail through chrome. I like using the new Start menu (Metro) and want to avoid Desktop mode as much as possible now, to avoid confusion and flicking between the two modes repeatedly. My Windows boots into Start (Metro), as I want, and then I open an application, for example Firefox or Outlook. So far so good. However after closing any application, I'm returned to Desktop mode. I then have to click on the Windows logo in the bottom left to return to the new Start menu.
How to boot directly into Desktop mode, how to keep a desktop computer with a keyboard and mouse in Start (Metro) mode. Exiting an application should not return me to Desktop mode, it should return me to Start (Metro) mode.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy parents bought a PC last year running Windows 8. I set up there talktalk E mail accounts in the Windows 8 Native E mail client from the Mail tile at the start screen without any problem. All worked fine until recently when in order to download an app they had to register an Outlook E Mail address. Not sure if they had updates applied as well but they had to start logging on to the PC at boot up every time using a password. In an effort to resolve this they restored the PC to an earlier time which has cured the logging on issue (ie no password required) but when they access the Mail tile from the start screen it is an outlook E Mail account that comes up. I have tried without success logging into this outlook account and then adding the talktalk accounts. I even tried using my own account but could not add that either.
All they want is to click the Mail tile and get there talktalk accounts to come up just as before (no outlook or hotmail or anything else). Is there a way to reset the E Mail client/tile in Windows 8 back to what came with PC so that I could set it up just as I did when the PC was purchased. They are running Windows 8 and do not wish to restore back to factory settings as they have a few other bits and pieces of software installed.If they upgrade to Windows 8.1 will they be forced into using a password to log on every time ?
