When ever I click a mailto link in either Chrome, IE, Firefox and Opera it opens up a new chrome browser window. Before I installed windows 8 I had it opening up Outlook 2010 new email, now it opens up a new Chrome browser window.
How do I change it in windows 8 to when I click a link in any browser to open up Outlook 2010 new email as it did before?
this is the hotfix for Office 2010 when you install sp2 and see in event viewer over and over Outlook 2010 calendar Folder is empty
It is a zip file which you will have to unzip
It puts it into C:/
Find the file that says (if it is the 32 bit one) Outlook 2010-Kb2849973-fullfile-x86-gill.exe
You need to run it as an administrator or it will come up and fail
I have installed it and so far I am not getting the hundreds of error msgs
this is where you get it, you will pick either the 32bit or 64bit edition depending on which one you installed.
I am using Incredimail, but when I click on any links in received emails they no longer open up Internet Explorer 11. Nothing happens at all.
I have not made any changes recently, and up to a couple of weeks ago they worked okay. I have run virus and spyware checks and tried system restore, but no joy.
Uninstalled and reinstalled Incredimail, but no joy. Made sure file associations are set to open IE11, still no joy.
Win 8.1. As the title says: Why aren't the links in my email messages hyperlinked. I am unable to activate some accounts, because even if I Copy and Paste them they don't work. I am using MS Mail!

I just purchased a Windows 8 laptop. Since the Windows 8 Mail app will not work with POP email accounts, my email/internet access provider (Comcast) recommended using Windows Live Mail (I'm using 2012 version). This works fine for new emails. However, I have not been able to find a way to "move" the historical emails from my Outlook 2010 (PC) to WinMailLive (laptop.)
Exporting the emails from Outlook 2010 creates a .PST file which is not recognized by WinMailLive.
I tried using MailStore, but it will only archive email from the Inbox for POP accounts.
Any way to move emails from Outlook 2010 to WNL 2012, that is easier than forwarding all the historical emails to myself from the Outlook PC & then reorganize them in WML on the laptop?
Since upgrading to Windows 8 (from 7) a week ago my Outlook 2010 email has been faulty. It keeps stopping emails coming in or out and I have to (daily) run a 'repair' to get it to work. I contacted my ISP (Virgin) and they said that Outlook doesn't work with Windows 8 and said I should use Live. However, I then added my accounts to Live but it wouldn't accept all of them, and I found the interface very hard to use. Outlook contains all my business folders and email records for my business so I need it to work. It seems to accept my IMAP email account but not the main accounts with my ISP.
My HP desktop machine is less than a year old and has plenty of memory. But also, in general the machine is slower and won't restart (I have to force shut down).
There are red 'x'es in email on Outlook 2013.
However when I log in as Administrator, I can see images in email without red x.
The value of "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerUser Shell FoldersCache" is "Z:Temporary Internet Files".
And I tried "safe mode" way - open outlook in safe mode and close and open - but it's not working.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to look for an alternative robust email client to outlook -- want to start gradually moving away from Ms Office to cheaper solutions.
I don't like the way Ms is going with subscription based Office 365 and Office 2013 is IMO "The Pits" - office 2010 works fine but I want where possible to start using alternatives. Libre Office is fine for some things but not quite ready for prime time yet (IMO) especially for EXCEL but I can start moving away from office gradually with an email client first.
The email client must NOT be web or browser based (I Hate webmail type of things) and must support IMAP. I don't want it to have ADWARE or NAGWARE (you know those that keep persuading you "Please update to PRO version etc etc"). It must also support MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS. It should ideally have a similar or identical interface to OUTLOOK -- simple plain, not like the background I've seen on some Gamers machines !!!!
If it can integrate with GMAIL that's fine but not mandatory. Preferably free too .
I did see a portable client ISCRIBE at i.Scribe and InScribe: A Small and Easy to use Email Client but it looks as if it might be a little experimental.
I discarded OPERAMAIL -- don't want any BROWSER or web mail type of stuff.
Linux has some decent choices such as EVOLUTION (probably one of the best if not the best) but Windows seems a bit lacking in this area -- pity OUTLOOK EXPRESS wasn't continued after XP -- it was small, simple and could also manage multiple accounts.
Any way to put an email contact shortcut onto you desktop so that when you click on it Outlook will open new email with that contact already entered?

Now I want to delete that account and remove all things associated with Outlook.com but still retain my Microsoft Account. It might come in handy for getting Apps and other things from the Microsoft Store.
I tried to remove the Outlook.com email account using the instruction I found in How To Close & Delete Outlook.com Account I was unable to do so. When I got to the Close Microsoft Account section and pressed OK, it reminded me I needed to close any paid services associated with my Microsoft Account. I've no such services. Pressing OK again took me to the Account Summary page. There I could find no way to close the Outlook.com email account, just another Close Account that took me back to the previous step.
I notice when using the Metro version of Outlook that when I open Outlook it always marks the first email as being read. Sometimes I will need to keep emails marked as unread so I end up having to go back and mark emails as unread before closing Outlook.

I set up his main email account (gmail). All fine.
I then set up another account (btinternet). Again all fine.
The problem is that, in the folder pane, the btinternet inbox & folders do not appear. And, when emails come in, whether they're aimed at the gmail or the btinternet account, they all appear in one mixed up inbox. How do I separate the two account inboxes, emails in & folders?
I have set up Outlook of various flavours successfully several times, including on my own Windows 8 machine.
I have Windows 8 with Outlook 2007 as e-mail. In the old XP days when ever I received e-mail with that annoying vertical line down the side of the page it was simple enough to get rid of them by using the instructions below. Now of course in this modern world things are different with tool bars turning into ribbons. When I open the e-mail there is no View.

New computer blues... I installed my Outlook7 through Windows Office. I ran it on my old computer. I eventually got my email files moved, but for whatever reason had to manually redo all the email address' that I check with it.
I now have Explorer10. When I click on a "mailto:", it tries to set up a new account app. When I go to the file "Set your default programs", click on "Mail", all I have showing on the right is "Mail", no "Outlook"! How do I get "mailto:" to associate with my Outlook?
Likes to use the Windows 8 Start Screen that has all the tiles on it. Normally, she clicks on the "Mail" icon to get to her email, but now when she clicks on the icon it doesn't go to her email and instead it goes straight to her desktop. I tried clicking another icon; the "weather" one, and it too goes to the desktop. She told me she downloaded a couple games from iWin a few days ago and I noticed a new toolbar in her browser so I tried disabling that, but no change. I've checked what the default browser is, Internet Explorer (what she normally uses). I also tried making Chrome the default browser but still no change.

I have a folder with all my old outlook express emails in it but it is not compatible with outlook and I NEED an email in the old outlook express file. How the heck can I get this? I have installed Outlook 2013 and would like to import my contacts from my outlook 2007 in another computer. I have already prepared the contacts.pst file from outlook 2007 and made it available in my public folders. I then imported the .pst file into Outlook 2013 via network. However the contacts shows up as a separate contact list rather than integrated into the outlook 2013 address book . How to correct it?
I must have got the process wrong.
I cannot add new links to my favorites folders anymore. cannot recall changing anything in IE. When I try to add a link it gives me an error that simply states that it cannot add it to internet explorer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo upgraded to 8.1 from 8.0 in the hope it was more user friendly but no evidence so far but that's not my issue...now when I'm in Internet Explorer if I click on a link or even a webpage...it takes me to a blank screen that tells me to 'check the link'....if I refresh nothing happens but if I go back to the original link or web icon and try again it loads the page (sometimes takes a couple of goes to do it)...also it keeps asking me to 'login' to frequently used things like facebook and my Hotmail account which it never did in the past....when using 8.0 it was all good but nothing but trouble in 8.1.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently had to update a second computer's emails from another computer, both having Windows 8.1 and Office Professional--or sync them. So I exported all three .pst accounts in Outlook 2010 from computer 1 and imported all of them into computer 2 into Outlook 2010. Well, I didn't notice that there was a Duplicate setting (probably because I don't normally do this) and left the Import setting concerning duplicates at the default setting, so I got a lot of duplicates. Since then, I have received more emails into my accounts at computer 2. What is the best way to fix the duplicate issue?
Also, I noticed that many Sent folders were missing in one Imported account for some reason. Why would just some of the emails be Imported and not others? This is bad! If it wasn't for this, I could send an important email today. How can I make sure that all of the emails on computer 1 get Imported onto Computer 2? All too often, I find glitches in MS software.
Since yesterday I find that in Internet Explorer (on the Desktop) SOME links on many websites don't work when I click them. If I open the same pages in Google Chrome, the links work fine.

View 5 Replies View Related(I don't use IE a lot ) I run a completely updated Windows 8.1 (home?) edition operating system so the browser I take it should be fully updated already. I have tried opening it directly from the local directory for it and also running as an administrator and neither would make it open.
There is no error message and there is no direct indication in the processes currently running under task manager that shows that it has booted up and is just not responding.
I thought maybe I could uninstall it but... then I look under program and features and I didn't see any relative program to uninstall for it. I remember a few years back uninstalling like version six or seven under a xp operating machine but that was ages ago.
I've set up a few computers for some users and would like to prevent their ability to rearrange the order of the favorite links in the IE10 favorite bar. How can I accomplish this?
