Browsers/Mail :: Unable To Delete Outlook Email Account
May 18, 2013
A few days ago I went to Outlook.Com and established an email account. Now I want to delete that account and remove all things associated with Outlook.com but still retain my Microsoft Account. It might come in handy for getting Apps and other things from the Microsoft Store.
I tried to remove the Outlook.com email account using the instruction I found in How To Close & Delete Outlook.com Account I was unable to do so. When I got to the Close Microsoft Account section and pressed OK, it reminded me I needed to close any paid services associated with my Microsoft Account. I've no such services. Pressing OK again took me to the Account Summary page. There I could find no way to close the Outlook.com email account, just another Close Account that took me back to the previous step.

An old Microsoft email account (xxxxxxxx@MSN.COM) from the days before Hotmail when you still could get @msn.com addresses. Account correctly set up in Windows Mail App on Windows 8 machines, no issues. Account has one outlook.com alias.
This was the only email address I have had without two step verification. Last week something happened which made to rethink my complete online / domain / email security. I both changed the password of this @msn.com account to a very complicated one and set up the two step verification using the MS Authenticator App for Windows Phone 8. Tested the set up by logging out and logging back in with the new password and as it should be, outlook.com asked for the authentication code. All was well and working.
Next step was to open Windows Mail App and change the account password there. As expected, the Mail App told me to check settings of this account, clicking the Check Settings link opened the credentials dialog. I entered the xxxxxxxx@msn.com as email address, and the new password. Got an error message telling the credentials were wrong. Logged out, logged back in, tried again, could not get the app to accept credentials.
Signed out from Windows, back in, relaunched the Mail App, removed the xxxxxxxx@msn.com account as nothing I tried with original @msn.com or newer @outlook.com alias did work. From account settings I added a new account, trying both the original @msn.com and the @outlook.com aliases. Wrong credentials tells the app and does not let me add the account. Trying the same credentials on Outlook.com web interface works, no issues in signing in.
Notice that I am absolutely sure that although my new password is really complicated, I have typed it every time right. I have checked it using the View password feature, #1 in below screenshot:
Short version: Can't add an email account to Windows Mail App, credentials 100% sure correct.
Additional issue: This might be impossible to solve: I would like to set my 20 years old original @msn.com address again as the primary alias but apparently it is not possible:
It was the primary alias before the issues told above, has worked as an MS account to be used for instance as the login account for Windows 8.

How do I change it in windows 8 to when I click a link in any browser to open up Outlook 2010 new email as it did before?

There are red 'x'es in email on Outlook 2013.
However when I log in as Administrator, I can see images in email without red x.
The value of "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerUser Shell FoldersCache" is "Z:Temporary Internet Files".
And I tried "safe mode" way - open outlook in safe mode and close and open - but it's not working.

I'm trying to look for an alternative robust email client to outlook -- want to start gradually moving away from Ms Office to cheaper solutions.
I don't like the way Ms is going with subscription based Office 365 and Office 2013 is IMO "The Pits" - office 2010 works fine but I want where possible to start using alternatives. Libre Office is fine for some things but not quite ready for prime time yet (IMO) especially for EXCEL but I can start moving away from office gradually with an email client first.
The email client must NOT be web or browser based (I Hate webmail type of things) and must support IMAP. I don't want it to have ADWARE or NAGWARE (you know those that keep persuading you "Please update to PRO version etc etc"). It must also support MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS. It should ideally have a similar or identical interface to OUTLOOK -- simple plain, not like the background I've seen on some Gamers machines !!!!
If it can integrate with GMAIL that's fine but not mandatory. Preferably free too .
I did see a portable client ISCRIBE at i.Scribe and InScribe: A Small and Easy to use Email Client but it looks as if it might be a little experimental.
I discarded OPERAMAIL -- don't want any BROWSER or web mail type of stuff.
Linux has some decent choices such as EVOLUTION (probably one of the best if not the best) but Windows seems a bit lacking in this area -- pity OUTLOOK EXPRESS wasn't continued after XP -- it was small, simple and could also manage multiple accounts.

I notice when using the Metro version of Outlook that when I open Outlook it always marks the first email as being read. Sometimes I will need to keep emails marked as unread so I end up having to go back and mark emails as unread before closing Outlook.

Today Outlook was updated so that you can now send email from Outlook but also send it from a non-Outlook account from the same inbox. Unless I misunderstood the story. How to set this up?

I have installed Outlook 2007 on a friend's laptop (running Windows 8).
I set up his main email account (gmail). All fine.
I then set up another account (btinternet). Again all fine.
The problem is that, in the folder pane, the btinternet inbox & folders do not appear. And, when emails come in, whether they're aimed at the gmail or the btinternet account, they all appear in one mixed up inbox. How do I separate the two account inboxes, emails in & folders?
I have set up Outlook of various flavours successfully several times, including on my own Windows 8 machine.

My mail account is working perfectly OK except this morning I received an email - junk mail! (but just plain text) that I now can't get rid of.
I highlighted the email, clicked on the delete icon on the top right and in greyed briefly but remains in my inbox. Unfortunately Microsoft have seen fit to stop us manually dragging the file to the delete folder and has done away with the drop down menus that allowed us to do so much in the past.
Found similar problem deleting an email stuck in the Outbox, but no luck. The message remains!

New to 8.1 and have been searching for an answer to no avail.
How do I delete the autofill email addresses when I compose a new email?
Many of the emails that show up will never be sent to again. One has even taken a person' name from an email and assessed it to anything sent from PayPal. How that happened.
Incredibly frustrated with the lack of options/customization . . . the entire idea of "apps" on a laptop. bah!
By the way, I do not utilize the "people" app so I do not have any contacts stored there to delete - already checked to see if emails could be found there. I tried regedit.exe to find the emails I wanted to delete, also to no avail.

I have Windows 8 with Outlook 2007 as e-mail. In the old XP days when ever I received e-mail with that annoying vertical line down the side of the page it was simple enough to get rid of them by using the instructions below. Now of course in this modern world things are different with tool bars turning into ribbons. When I open the e-mail there is no View.
Is it possible convert the XP instructions below into Windows 8 ...
Lets see if this works: Open the email and click Forward: Now, click View on the Menu Bar: Now look for SOURCE at the bottom tab and click: Now look through the SOURCE CODE and find a selection that starts with something called <BLOCKQUOTE>Now, if there is one line in the email you should see it once. For each blue line you will see it listed. Highlight each line in the screenshot below and delete:

Outlook 2013 won't set up an email account if the TEST SEND EMAIL fails.
This is a really strange error -- if you are in some places often your ISP won't let you logon to your email server to SEND email from programs like OUTLOOK (SPAM protection amongst other things) but insist that you use their webmail unless you are actually LOGGED ON to the ISP.
ISP's have no problem with you READING Email while on say a public / other Wi-Fi system but often restrict the SENDING of emails through their servers from such Wi-Fi accesses - you often have to be logged on to your own ISP.
So if you are trying to set up the account while you are staying in a Hotel and using their broadband service it fails -- all I want is to be able to READ email until I can logon at home.
I can SEND via webmail or mobile phone so the stupid install process shouldn't stop me CREATING an account even if for the moment I can't use it for SENDING.
Rolled back to Office 2010 -- Outlook 2010 works fine - you can SKIP the test email send --this is what they should allow on Outlook 2013 as well. !!!!!

For some reason or other I can no longer access my email account Outlook.com (known formerly as Hotmail.com) when using the Internet Explorer10 browser, it will not go to the sign in window, although I can access the account by using the "InPrivate Browsing" option in IE10.
Not a huge problem as I can and do use another browser most of the time. I am curious as to why this has occurred more than anything?

I have a new ASUS notebook and it uses Windows 8. On my home pc I have Windows Vista and was able to set up multiply email accounts in Window Live Mail. (my charter, my hubby charter, 2 school google accounts and yahoo).
I was able to read mail coming thru our main email acct (my charter), if an email came thru that needed to go to my hubbys account or another account I was able to drop and drag it to the other account listed on the screen.
I have most of my emails set up on my new ASUS notebook. Is there any way to drop and drag emails from one account to another? I can drag the email and hover over the new email account, but it does not drag it.
I am new to the notebook thing and windows 8.

Just updated my desktop and it came installed with Windows 8.1. Previously used Vista & XP. Thought I had set up user accounts etc correctly. Have a Hotmail and talktalk account supposedly installed but now my talktalk email looks totally different from Vista and will receive but will not reply or send. I log into it through 'google/talktalkmail otherwise using the mail icon it opens just like Hotmail and I have only my limited hotmail contacts. I am trying to add several email accounts to 'Mail' in Windows 8. So far I have successfully added Hotmail, and BT mail. I am now trying to add my 2 Virginmedia NTL accounts using the imap settings shown on the Virginmedia support site but neither of them install correctly...though they do work. The problem is the Folders list on the left hand side shows only Inbox, Flagged, Outbox and then for some very strange reason it lists (Gmail) Folders...see attachment Ntl account.doc.
I have tried deleting these folders but they come back after a few seconds. I have also noticed that 'Mail' must keep details of additional accounts hidden away somewhere as whichever NTL account I create it always uses the first account name I ever entered...'Ntlworld' which was a typo...and all subsequent attempts to create this account have been spelt correctly.

During the night my windows desktop with Windows 8.1 pre-release was update to Windows 8.1 release.
Of course it deleted my Favorites in IE & updated to IE11. It also deleted all my contacts in Mail.
However when I logged into my other desktop using my MS account, it updated IE Favorites & Mail contacts to 0.
I had this info on my portable & put this info on a thumb drive. There is no way to import or export this info into IE11 or Mail.
Is there something I missed on this procedure?
I was under the impression that I had control of my computer & not MS!

One contains my junk mail, but clicking the extra folder just displays the 'busy' spinning icon and never opens the folder. How can I delete the extra folder? Opening my accounts with Outlook.com only has one junk folder. This problem showed up with the latest Windows 8.1 Update.

I am getting a Windows 8 tablet and want to set up Gmail on the Windows 8 mail app. I don't have a Microsoft account.
Should I sign up for a MS account using a Hotmail address, or using my Gmail address? What is the advantage in using a Hotmail address in order to access my Gmail. What are the pros & cons?
I'd like to be able to view/send email but not download it onto my tablet, as I use Live Mail on my main PC and want all my downloaded email on that computer.

I've installed Windows 8.1 Home Premium on my parents laptop and I'm now trying to set up their email account.
It is a non MS account which Windows 8 doesn't seem to allow me to create. I've searched for a solution but they seem to require the Local Group policy to be edited and as far I've researched home premium doesn't include the management function to do so.
Does this mean if you are using Windows 8.1 Home Premium you are tied to using a MS mail account.
