Aug 1, 2014How can I save the email photos I receive to my computer in Windows 8? The Save picture as..... tab doesn't work.

Browsers/Mail :: Audible (New Email Received) Tone
Jan 22, 2014I have a POP3 email address (Tiscali) I have set it up on "outlook". I can send and receive Emails ok but cannot find an option to get a tone to sound when a new Email arrives.
I have looked at the Laptop's "Sounds" and found that the 2 items referring to Email Notifications are both set to use the Default sound. My volume is turned fully up. Sounds from Iplayer are ok.
I have Goggled for a solution but the methods suggested cannot work because the options are not viable.

In the old XP days when ever I received e-mail with that annoying vertical line down the side of the page it was simple enough to get rid of them by using the instructions below. Now of course in this modern world things are different with tool bars turning into ribbons. When I open the e-mail there is no View.
Is it possible convert the XP instructions below into Windows 8 ...
Lets see if this works: Open the email and click Forward: Now, click View on the Menu Bar: Now look for SOURCE at the bottom tab and click: Now look through the SOURCE CODE and find a selection that starts with something called <BLOCKQUOTE>Now, if there is one line in the email you should see it once. I want to be able to save an email to my local hard drive as txt or htm
When I tell EI 11 to Save as.. .txt, the file is unreadable.
When I save it as an htm and open it I'm sent to the gmail login but gmail seem to hang for a long time at login. I don't get to the inbox at all and need to close IE. How to save web mail to my hard drive?

Jul 13, 2014I am new to Windows 8. I emailed myself a .jpg photo as an email attachment (in yahoo email), from a different computer. When I try to save the attached photo to my own computer, the options are to save as "webpage complete" or as "HTML." I don't want to do either of those. I want to save it as a .jpg-format image in a folder of my choice on my computer.
Also, when I click on the attached photo, it opens in some unnamed Windows 8 imaging app that takes up the whole screen. I don't know what I am supposed to do with it (there are no explanations or options, or even any text that tells what the app is called or what it is supposed to be doing), and I can't get rid of it unless I press the keyboard key with the picture of a window on it, and then get back into my browser (Chrome). If I knew the name of this intrusive imaging app, maybe I could uninstall it, or at least reconfigure Windows 8 to make it save images in the format I want them in and in the folder where I want it to save them, so I can manipulate them the way I want to (in my case, with Paint Shop Pro).

I got a new laptop with Windows 8 for Christmas. It was my first exposure to Windows 8 and I sailed through the installation/setup pretty quickly. Unfortunately, I've forgotten most of what I did and now I have a problem.
When I sign in to Windows 8, it shows me my main email address. But I've just moved and cancelled my account with that ISP. In another couple of days or weeks, the account will die and what will happen with regards to signing on to Windows 8. I assume I need to go to a website somewhere and re-register my laptop in some way to use a different email address.

Dec 31, 2012I have been trying (without success) to transfer my e-mail folder files from my old computer (Dell Inspiron 530 using Vista) to my new computer (Sony Vaio using Windows 8). The transfer is from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail.
The recommended method on the old machine using a flash drive is as follows: File-Export-Messages-Microsoft Windows Mail-Select Folder (K:New Folder)-Next-Select Folders-Next.
At this point the folders should transfer to the flash drive. Unfortunately I keep getting and error message that says that "Export did complete successfully and Windows Mail was unable to export all messages" - (in fact only a few messages were transferred) The message then goes onto say that " your disk may not have enough space (it is a 32GB flash drive and has more than enough space!) or that some messages may be corrupted. Run disk clean-up or delete some files and try again". I have done this without improvement.
Another approach that was recommended was to find all of the e-mail files (.eml files) and copy them to the new computer via the flash drive. I can copy them to the flash drive without problem but am not sure how/where to import them into the C: drive of the new computer.

Maintenance :: Received A Message - System Restore Did Not Complete Successfully?
Feb 23, 2014recently I tried doing a system restore on windows 8 and after going through the process of waiting, I received a message upon reboot namely this "System Restore did not complete successfully, Your computer's files and settings were not changed.
System Restore could not access a file. This is probably because an anti-virus program is running on the computer . Temporally disable your antivirus program and retry System Restore.
An unspecified error occurred during System Restore, (0x80070005)"
anyway I panicked and went to undo the last change made(if one was in fact made) via system restore , but the same thing happened I repeated this procedure a few times trying to restore to the same point and then undoing the operation (I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) to which it just kept giving the same error message after going through a short process and rebooting each time.
I was wondering could any of this possibly of corrupted my files, deleted files, or wrecked anything in any way, my computer my programs, anything. As far as I can remember the restore process said something about restoring registry each time, which only took a short time.
Setup Installation :: Windows 8 Boot Priority Device Not Saving On BIOS
Jul 17, 2014I wanted to do a fresh windows 8.1 install (i have a samsung NP500P4C-T03CL notebook with windows 8 OEM preinstalled and when i updated to 8.1 the system went slow and "faily"). So i put the CD on the drive, but for my suprise when i reboted the system to enter the BIOS the F2 key didn't do the job, nor it appeared on the splash screen on samsung. After googling a lot and under trial/error concept i could enter the BIOS via Shift+Restart.
I did some changes to the BIOS booting set-up and noticed i have 2 Windows Boot Manager, the CD, the HDD and one option called "SETUP" that has a "!" ("!3.Setup"). So i tried every combination posible with Secure boot unabled, and UEFI+CSM OS, also with UEFI disabled, and none gave me the option to enter bios with F2, or recovery with F4. I managed to install win7 on another HDD. Main thing, besides the F2, F4, F8, F9, F12 (yes i prove all of them, even ESC), is that whenever i change the boot order it's not saved, and it is restablished to:
1. Windows Boot Manager
2. Windows Boot Manager
3. Setup
4. HDD
5. CD
Also i noticed that on the password options the one for the HDD appears grayed and as "FROZEN". I entered user and supervisor password, neither cleared the HDD one. i want to keep the BIOS update as a last resort. clearly it's not hdd related as the same thing happened when i tried another hdd with win7).

Apr 18, 2014I just recently imported Bookmarks (Favorites) from Chrome, and I was wondering how to remove the names of my bookmarks to have only the icons showing? That's the way I have them in Chrome, and it is great because it saves tremendous space on the Favorite Bar. I don't want to change with "Customize Title Width" to show only the Icons because I have some named folders as well, and when the text is removed it's impossible to know their contents. I know it's possible to have icons only show, even with the setting "Long Titles" selected, because YouTube, one of my imports, did indeed save without a name/title. I have attached a screenshot to exemplify that this is indeed possible:

I use a USB drive for extra capacity but I seldom have much spare space on C: as I have SQL server and Visual Studio installed. Looking at storage use on C: I notice 1.7 Gbytes of files in C:UsersSimonAppDataRoaming. Can I delete these as I use my login on only one computer at home? Roaming profiles are not enabled.
There are also 1.9 GBytes of files on C:UsersAll Users. I believe All Users is used for creating profiles for new users and All Users contains folders corresponding to those in C:Programs and C:Programs (x86). Can I delete any folders with programs that wouldn't be needed by any new accounts I might create?

File Explorer Freezes When Saving Document
Nov 1, 2013When trying to save a document (could be from OpenOffice or LibreOffice or even a PDF), the Save As dialog opens and then immediately freezes. There is no way to escape--I have to "X" out of it and the document app crashes.
No new software has been installed since creating the new user account. We use Norton 360 and also Malware Bytes for protection.

Mar 3, 2014I recently installed Win 8.1 Pro...there's some things I like and some I don't. I'm learning about File History and the System Image tools. Why MS went backwards in their backup tools from Win7 is a topic for another day...but I have a question about getting File History to backup certain files.
1) From what I'm reading & inferring, the only way to get File History to backup my Outlook 2007 PST file would be to add its containing folder to the Library? For example, add C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlook to the Library?
2) I'm guessing for other user files, preferences, data files, etc., that are usually located in the AppData Local or Roaming folders, that we have to add their containing folders to the Library?
Is this correct...or does File History back these up by default somewhere (besides System Image).
P.S. I hate this File History thing and the buried System Image tool that's also been handicapped. I want Win7's Backup & Restore back, where we could select any files we wanted for backup, schedule time of day to run backups and images, etc. I can only think MS did this to dumb down things for users.
Last Webpage Keep Saving - Same Page Load Up When Open Browser
Jan 14, 2014This new computer I've recently gotten comes with Windows 8; something I've never used before. I've noticed that, for some reason, the PC saves the last page (or pages) I was in, even after clicking out of them. Even going so far as resetting the computer or shutting it off completely, the last pages I were in start up upon starting up a browser. This has gotten incredibly annoying.
For example, if I were in Hotmail last before closing the browser, the next time I open the browser, it will load up the exact same Hotmail page I was on even though I have the homepage set to a different site. I do not want this to happen. Is there a way to shut this off so pages I X out of remain X-ed out of even after restarting the browser? Even if I don't close a page, if I reset or shut off the computer, I don't want to start at the same page I was on before. I want to start at my homepage. How can I fix this?
