The "Reopen last browsing session" is greyed out and staying greyed out in IE10. Is there a download fix that one can get or is there another way to fix this thrilling problem.

I have a few email addresses that I use, in W7 I can type the first letter and all the other addies with the same letter are displayed. How I do it in Win 8.
Only just noticed this but have confirmed other PC's exhibit this same behaviour. The tabs on the top line of the browser don't match the order of the preview tabs at the bottom. As you open other sites and open and close tabs sometimes they do manage to line up and sometimes not....

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I want to shut down my computer, it happens that it doesn't matter if I click the Shut Down button or Hibernate or Suspend all do the same, log me out of my session and take me to the Lock Screen image that I've setted. The only way to shut down my computer from Windows is pressing the power off button on my computer and as far as I understand this strange behaviour isn't normal. So how to make all those buttons do their work properly? Over all the Shut Down button. How can I configure that?
Extra information about my computer:
Windows 8 Professional (Activated), 3 Gb RAM memory, GeForce GT 430 video card, ASRock motherboard, hard drive partitioned with Arch Linux OS installed on the other partition.
I am missing some of (perhaps all) system tasks that used to be available in context menus of the previous Windows versions.
Is there a way to make, say, "Move" easily available (so that I can, e.g., move a window from invisible part of display within a remote session)? How?
Okay so i have a windows 8 and some tabs won't open sorta, they open but when i click on them they won't show up on the screen or anything, i've tried restarting the computer and sometimes even redownloading the programs and still nothing. The tabs are faded out like their opened but clicking on them does nothing, whats wrong with my computer??
View 1 Replies View RelatedI setup a Lock Screen picture through PC Settings/Personalize in Windows 8 last week on my laptop and it synced perfectly to my desktop as well. But yesterday I noticed my lock screen picture was not active when I opened my laptop it went straight to my picture password.
The lock screen picture still is functional on my desktop when it awakes from sleep or a test lock. But it refuses to show up when my laptop comes up from sleep/lock. So I went into my laptop PC Settings under Personalize and it is showing this screen.
I cannot access any Group Policy stuff on my laptop since it is using Windows 8 (Home). But my desktop is using Windows 8 Pro (w/ Media Center). Both of my copies of Windows are already activated and I use my Microsoft Account to log on to both so everything will sync correctly.
*Edit* All of my Group Policy information on my desktop is set to "Not Configured" so it shouldn't conflict with any prevention of settings on my laptop.
I really like Windows 8 and this problem is a little silly and I'd like to correct it!
New to Windows 8, just installed it today & have made it genuine with use of a patch.when you go into Settings/ Change PC Settings/Personalize the screen is greyed out & cannot use any of the screen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new HP computer. Came with 8.1 and IE 11. Recently had windows XP pro, worked fine but needed to get a new machine. Anyway, lost outlook express, took a while to figure out to add windows live mail and set it as default, so now the "icon" in IE 11 works. Yahoo mail is my main guy but couldn't get it to set as default, although my Yahoo still works. So back to the issue, in IE 11, if I click on "File" / Sent, the "sent to" is greyed out and thus it won't work.
Computer is really slow, that will be the next challenge and what stuff to safely uninstall.
I have my Lenovo laptop set to sleep when I close the lid. I do so with my windows and tabs active but on waking, they have disappeared.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSince i did a fresh reinstall of Win 8 64 i have never been able to change the folder view options. Example; I am in a windows explorer window, everything is displayed as a large icon (yuk), i right click go to view and change to details. I then click 'view' on the toolbar and click options, I then navigate to the 'View' tab whereby my intention is to apply the 'detailed' view to all explorer windows in future yet both fields are greyed out (the 'Apply to Folders' and 'Rest Folders').
It has never been usable since this fresh install (ie on previous versions of win 8 installs i recall it working, but not this one, ie its not a recent problem, has always been like this).
Windows 8 Pro, 64 bit. In Explorer (file manager) under File, open command prompt, and open Windows PowerShell are greyed out. This is a new situation. How can I restore them?
I didn't realize I had to have a drive or folder selected to activate the prompt.

I don't want to discuss the specifics why but basically I don't want to use my left hand at all sometimes during certain web browsing sessions.
How do I browse through internet web browser tabs with just right hand mouse? Without having to click on each tab. I just want to use either a button, scroll wheel, or an extension/add on that will make scrolling through tabs only right handed.
have been using AMD Drivers 13.4, recently tried the new 13.8 Beta drivers, but Catalyst only showed tabs for CPU settings, nothing for Graphics Cards, have tried a clean install and a overwrite of the software, but still comes up the same, have finally got back to using the 13.4 Drivers but only after a lot of hassle.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis new sync tab feature in IE11 is handy. But it's also a bit annoying. I have about 7 or 8 PCs I use frequently and I re-install the OS all the time. So I end up with orphan machines that appear in IE 11 sync tabs and I can't seem to find a way to remove them. I also noticed that these tabs mysteriously disappeared on some of my machines.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor my touchpad I use an unofficial driver (higher version and more tuned than official), which works nicely.
However it also installs some add-on to Control Pane lMouse, which causes about 1 minute delay (of waiting for Mouse window to appear), when I try to run Control Panel Mouse icon (for mouse pointers and acceleration). That add-on is probably new custom tab, however it don't show up, so I don't know. It is probably some DLL loaded at start maybe via Task Scheduler, maybe via system service. (I have already checked more common autoruns - both StartUp folders and also Run registry keys.)
I want to keep the driver, but remove that add-on, what causes delay (by identifying the file and renaming it). What is the best procedure to identify the add-on?
Today, my windows 8 desktop acted up for no reason. When I tried to install a program/software, it prompted for an Admin. Password. However, in the dialog box, there was no text box for typing in the Administrator password and OK button was grey out.
Tried to open an elevated command prompt box using "Run as administrator", no luck. Selection was grey out too. I could not enable hidden administrator account via "net user administrator /active:yes" from elevator command prompt. I also could not install any software because the Administrator password dialog box contains no text box to enter Admin password and OK button grey out. I could only clicked the Cancel button.
I have a new HP Pavilion Slimline 400-034PC with a HP Pavilion 23bw monitor. I need to dim the monitor screen because it is too bright but the brightness control in the Windows 8 settings is greyed out. All drives and OS are up to date. The adaptive brightness has been changed in the power settings but that did nothing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI love how Metro IE11 works now in Windows 8.1. I was using a reddit app, opened an article, and it spawn a separate window for the IE browser to read a link. Works great. But one day, when it launched the IE browser, I was hearing a video that was completely unrelated to the link.
So I bring up the tabs and I had like 50 tabs open! When I close the IE browser that spawns from reddit or from a newsreader like News Bento, I just drag the app to the bottom of the screen to put away IE. That didn't terminate the tabs. So it was tedious to close each tab independently.
is there a way to close all tabs immediately?
I've got a tablet that runs Windows 8 pro. When the keyboard is up it takes up half of the screen, making is difficult to see whatever it is I'm working in and I can't figure out how to re-size it.
I'm also trying to re-size the tabs in Microsoft Excel. I know how to do this in Window 7 but I can't find the proper place with in the control panel in windows 8 to do it.
When I get to the part in the Windows 8 installer that it tells me what needs to come to my attention, instead of opening a little browser inside of the program as I guess it's trying to do, it opens up 2 tabs in whatever browser is my default. This would be fine if the buttons in the web pages still modified the actual installer, but they don't and therefore the installer is effectively stopped.
I'm trying to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Key word: Upgrade. I would like to avoid re-installing the OS altogether, but I can do that by myself if it comes to that.

I read on another thread that making IE the default would fix it, but I tried that and it did not work.
I wanted to remove the hidden recovery parition on my Asus Zenbook UX31A, which is 20GB in size, and I need that space, because the laptop just has a 128GB SSD, and I am permanently on space limit of about 1-2GB and Windows isn't working anymore properly.
when I open the Windows 8 recovery tool, the option for copying the recovery partition is greyed out. I googled for this, and I just could find informations about, that this can happen, but not why, and how to solve it.
I'm running Windows 8 on an HP P2-1310.
Examples where I see the windows busy circle:
1. I right-click on the recycle bin icon2. If I right-click on the recycle bin I get the busy icon. For a few minutes, I get the busy icon if I hover over the recycle bin. Eventually, things seem to go back to pre-busy state in that I don't get the busy icon, but the right-click menu never appears. I get a busy icon for the recycle bin even if I shut down browsers, etc.
2. right-click on the time and date in the lower-right portion of the screen, in an attempt to launch Task Manager. If instead I do CTRL-ALT-DEL I get launch Task manager immediately.
Maybe related: if I bring up Control Panel - System Properties - System Protection, the 'Protection Settings' table says:
"Available Devices
Searing"
forever.
The System Restore button is grayed out.
Occasionally, I get the busy icon in other cases, but I have yet to find it repeatable.
When I get the busy icon, it is only on the application mentioned, above. I can generally operate a (3rd party) browser with no problems.
Task Manager reports the sort of numbers I'm used to seeing when things are running normally:
1. ~50% CPU usage (due to browser).
2. ~25% memory usage
3. 25% disk usage
4. 0% network usage
I now have gotten things into a mode where the desktop is semi grayed out and shows the busy icon if I hover the mouse over the desktop. Also, I get the busy icon if I hover over the 3rd party Start button or any of the app buttons on the task bar (this is the bar just to the right of the Start button; I hope I'm using the right term).
I can't seem to get Secure Boot enabled on my laptop, the secure boot option is greyed out and I can't change it to enabled, my computer came with windows 8 on it automatically so I thought it would've been enabled by default.

How do I get this nasty file browser to never show up? I'd really much rather a normal file explorer window pop up.
For example, using Paint Free, I made a nice little picture, then click "Save As". The screen I attached popped up. How do I get this bulky explorer to be replaced by a nice normal File Explorer? It happens in other programs sometimes as well, but I can't think of any other explicit examples.
