View 4 Replies View RelatedWindows 8.1. I built a new computer yesterday, and installed Windows 8.1. I had previously run Windows 7 on my older computer.
Everything was working great, till today I decided to move my documents, pictures, music, and video folders to a different drive. I succeeded fine with documents, music, and video, however pictures seem to be a little messed up.
see the below screenshot:
At the top, you will see it lists folders for music twice, both folders show my music files in them. I realize these are probably just pointers to the music folder, but now I have music twice, and pictures is not up there.
However, when I check to show libraries in the navigation pane, you will on the same screen shot, it does list documents, music, pictures, and video there as it should.
How I can get those folders back up at the top as they should be?
I don't understand this at all. Why did they take away this VERY important function? You can no longer drag and drop pictures to and from dropbox to a folder on your computer! This is so aggravating that I feel like throwing my computer in the trash. I cannot use skydrive. It won't link to it and it won't let me transfer files to another location on my computer.
There is a "pictures" folder but it refuses to let me transfer files from skydrive or dropbox! This is extremely aggravating when trying to backup four years of vacation pictures. It also disables the drag and drop function from ANYTHING else: CDs, USB drives, hard drives. I'm so angry now that I might consider buying a used computer just to transfer the files.
I have a pen flash drive with info from old PC. I already used it to transfer pictures to new PC with Win8, but now I cannot. I do not remember how to access it. I plug it into UBS port and... nothing. How do I access/find it in Wind 8?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just bought a new sony vaio laptop and I am operating windows 8.1 I have downloaded all my holidays photos into a folder, however, I want to rearrange them in a different order. I am unable to do this as the photos are being arranged in date & time order....and I cannot seem to change this. I have even 'renamed' the photos in the numerical order that I want, but the computer returns them back to date & time order.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just had a factory reset & for some reason I can't get my photos in Pictures in File Explorer back into Photos. If I insert a flash drive with pictures on it & select 'Import' in Photos, it will import the photos but after supposedly downloading them, nothing! I have the 'Show photos & videos' box ticked off in Settings on the Charms panel.

View 12 Replies View RelatedThe Photos app on my Windows 8.1 Pro PC won't show any pictures either in the Pictures Library or in OneDrive. It only can display folders but not pictures. In other Windows Store apps, another weird things happens. The photos show up but with no thumbnails. I tried a reformat and reinstall and the problem disappeared. That is until I signed in my Microsoft account. The problem comes back.
NOTE: I'm using Hotspot Shield because an error appears every time I install Windows updates or Windows Store apps. I use Hotspot Shield to bypass this error but even disabling it doesn't solve the problem.
My Iphone does show up in device manager, as Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. however it doesnt show up in Computer. This is really an issue because my memory is full and i need to transfer my photos to my PC. What do i do?

I have several albums created in Photos. I have deleted these pictures from my camera and from my desktop. Is there a way to transfer the pictures to a thumb drive for transfer to another computer?

View 8 Replies View RelatedTrying to use the Win 8 Photos app to import some photos from an SD Card. I keep getting this vague error.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI like the Metro app because it is the simplest to understand and I believe I do know *all* other ways to read SD card data into any folder I choose.
Autoplay has been properly selected. I put the SD card into the slot and immediately the files are read, but when they are selected and imported they end up in the default folder "Pictures." I really don't believe there is any way to change this folder if I insist on using the Metro app, but is there??
In the process of setting up my new computer with an SSD and HDD, I managed to delete the pictures folder. I got it back, but now when I click on the Pictures folder inside the libraries folder, all the data in my HDD comes up. Whatever I did, I somehow made my D: drive to the format of my pictures folder.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded to 8.1 (x64), I am unable to hide custom made libraries in the navigation pane. The default libraries can be hidden/shown. Does a custom library have a registry entry? I'm sure its visibility is controlled by a simple value.
No, I don't have "show all folders" selected.
Incidentally, this Libraries - Move above This PC in Windows 8.1 trick creates two lists of libraries in the navigation pane.
I have ten folders in my Pictures library all full of pictures, and they get cycled on the Live tile for the Photos app, and also show up under "Pictures" once you've opened the Photos app.
Is there a way to hide a folder so it's physically in my UsersLibrariesPictures location, but WON'T show up under the Photos app?
Within the document libraries there appear to be a number of default folders For Example
PICTURES
My Pictures
Public Pictures
Whilst transferring all my picture files across from my old laptop I seem to have deleted the public pictures folder within my personal library. After a bid of searching around I have found the Public Pictures folder under the "public" area of the C: directory. It appears to only be missing only in my profile account (other profiles are also unaffected).
My question is how do I restore this folder? If I copy and paste the source public pictures folder I appear to be making a complete copy, rather than a shortcut type link to the files.
When I click This pc one of the folders displayed is Pictures. However when I click Pictures it says this is unavailable.
The reason for this is I deleted Pictures within C:/users/Pete and created a new folder called My Pictures in C:/users/Pete and within that I now have all my pic folders and files.
How best do I now replace the Pictures folder with a My Pictures in This pc ....
A few days ago I decided to encrypt a folder of pictures. I decided to do this so that the pictures would stop showing up in that pictures app window, so that only I could access said pictures, and because I wanted to know how encryption worked. So far, the pictures continue to show up in my pictures app and nobody can access the file, and I now want to just move the pictures to an external drive. However, I can't find the file (it disappeared upon encryption) and so I can't decrypt it in order to move it. How do I find the file for decryption? (I have the key, just can't find the door, so to speak)

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn setting up a new Acer Aspire V I have managed to rename the default Pictures folder Documents and I now have two folders called Documents - see below:
I was trying to move the Documents and Pictures folders to DropBox (because DropBox is encrypted) in order to have all contents synced. I believe the problem may have arisen because Windows 8.1 (I upgraded from installed Windows 8 immediately after buying the PC and before the install of Office 365) may have put the Documents folder in Skydrive folder by default.
To complicate matters Acer also has some form of cloud storage that may be in the mix -the clear.fi folder below? It is worth noting that the two folders below appear in both Documents folders (above) even although one still had the old Pictures icon - see above.
Here is a shot of the folders currently in the relevant user folder:
Is there any way to unscramble this mess and get the folders to DropBox?
Windows 8. Nice to Meet U Everyone
I Want to Delete Unuse Lock Screen or Account Pictures But I Cant Find Store Folder. Where ?
PS. I Really Like Windows 8
I accidentally deleted the entire My Pictures folder from my library. How do I get it back? I was trying to delete an album and it deleted the entire library of pictures. My photos are still in the Windows 8 library just not the My folders library.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to import pictures from external device (in this case - android phone with PTP) and in the import dialog I've selected "import settings" and then I'm trying to change "Import images to" location, but when I click on Browse and select the same path I was using on windows 7 (on E: partition) I get error "You cannot import to this folder.
Choose another location" which, frankly, doesn't make much sense. I've tried permissions and so forth and I can easily browse and save picture there, I'm the owner and all that. Why Pictures Importer complains and doesn't allow me to use this location? I don't want to import to %profile%/Pictures because it's small-ish system drive :|
I can't get into my Documents folder. Every time I go to get into it, this little pop up message come up.
It tells me:
" "Documents.library-ms" is no longer working. This library can be safely deleted from your computer. Folders that have been included will not be affected."
I have also include an image of the message.
It also happens when I try to get into my Pictures folder. Just lays "Pictures.library-ms" etc etc etc comes up.
I have a new Dell Vostro 270MT running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. I'm having a problem in that the Metro Apps (Music, Pictures, etc) are not seeing any files on a second internal HDD.
I have gone into Windows Explorer and explicitly added the file location (e.. E:Music) to the relevant Library (e.g. My Music). When I click on the library, the files appear there and I can open them from within Windows Explorer (by selecting the file and choosing "Open with"). Individual music files will open with any of the installed programs including Music, Media Player or VLC. Similarly picture files are visible in Photo Viewer or Pictures.
But when I return to the Metro/Start screen and select the relevant app (e.g. Music) - no files appear.
If I copy a file across to the main library on C: - then the file will appear in the app. (But I want to keep all my data on a 2nd internal HDD rather than fill up my C: drive).
I have tried:
- Uninstalling and reinstalling the app
- Explicitly setting the folder type to "Music" or "Pictures" or whatever is relevant, as well as keeping it as "General"
- I have added the file to the library by (1) going into the library and adding it to the list of locations to be accessed, as well as (2) going to the E: drive, selecting the folder and adding it to the library
None of the above work.
I have been trying (without success) to transfer my e-mail folder files from my old computer (Dell Inspiron 530 using Vista) to my new computer (Sony Vaio using Windows 8). The transfer is from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail.
The recommended method on the old machine using a flash drive is as follows: File-Export-Messages-Microsoft Windows Mail-Select Folder (K:New Folder)-Next-Select Folders-Next.
At this point the folders should transfer to the flash drive. Unfortunately I keep getting and error message that says that "Export did complete successfully and Windows Mail was unable to export all messages" - (in fact only a few messages were transferred) The message then goes onto say that " your disk may not have enough space (it is a 32GB flash drive and has more than enough space!) or that some messages may be corrupted. Run disk clean-up or delete some files and try again". I have done this without improvement.
Another approach that was recommended was to find all of the e-mail files (.eml files) and copy them to the new computer via the flash drive. I can copy them to the flash drive without problem but am not sure how/where to import them into the C: drive of the new computer.
I'm using hp pavilion dm4 and after all the internet search I'm unable to use my bluetooth under the OS windows 8.1 X64. Need to find the driver or some other way to get my bluetooth activated.
At the same time I'm confidentially able to use my wifi no problem in it but in settings>devices bluetooth doesn't exist...
