Apr 7, 2014I like the Metro app because it is the simplest to understand and I believe I do know *all* other ways to read SD card data into any folder I choose.
Autoplay has been properly selected. I put the SD card into the slot and immediately the files are read, but when they are selected and imported they end up in the default folder "Pictures." I really don't believe there is any way to change this folder if I insist on using the Metro app, but is there??

Jul 24, 2014I have a large collection of car photos spanning several years and growing, +300,000. I am now trying to combine them by year of make. There are many files with the same name like "1930 CarMakerName." I cannot take the time to review every conflict at transfer time, much quicker and easier to see them in an Icon view.
Is there any way to have them automatically renamed like every other previous version of Windows that I have used?

Nov 15, 2013I read the tutorial on building a Windows EFI USB stick from the Windows ISO. I want to build an EFI/USB from an ISO of a bootable third party application, which is not designed to boot from UEFI. First, I went through the steps in Diskpart. Then, I copied the files from the third party ISO to the USB stick. Screenshot 34 shows the objects listed from the third party ISO. The second screenshot (35) shows what I have on my Win 8.1 ISO. I tried to just copy the efi folder and bootmgr files from the Win 8 ISO, but my Win 8 system (a VM) didn't like that at all. !

Aug 25, 2014I found that my two Windows 8.1 laptops will not copy the entire contents of any folder to my Iomega network drive. Only the folder alone is copied and none of the sub-folders or individual files. I can copy individual files separately, but not the whole folder sub-folder, and files together. I have no problem doing this with my Windows 7 desktop PCs. My network drive is connected directly to my Apple Airport Base Station router.

Jun 10, 2014I'm running Windows 8.1 (standard/ home edition) and can't download a couple .exe files. I get "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this folder". errors. I'm the only user on this computer and have administrator access.
The file resides on mediafire and via my ipad I was able to manage to transfer it to dropbox, but I still get the same error. The filename (partial) is created but no further downloading is done.
I can't take ownership of the file-- it doesn't exist on my computer yet.
I can't change the local security policy (I understand this is only available in Win 8 Pro version).
UAC is already disabled as much as I can figure (via the slider set to never notify).
Short of setting up a super admin account (would this even work?)

I had the option of buying a keyboard cover, but they would only discount it to $20 cheaper, so i declined with the intention of buying one online for a better price. Jul 11, 2014I have tried exporting the contacts in WLM in win XP using CSV format and importing into WLM in win 8. The result was a real mess, missing data, sometimes 3 entries made for the same contact, it was horrendous. There should be a better way to transfer from one DBstore to another, in the same way one can transfer PST files in Outlook.
PS I have tried copying the DBstore over by replacing the folder, the result is no contacts; I guess the file in XP is somehow different to that expected by win 8?

Getting message Error-Access is Denied. I have taken the ownership of the entire 'Windows' folder via the Add_Take_Ownership.reg file (which I got from this forum). Even that did NOT work.

Sep 15, 2014I have the very latest Windows 8.1 update.
My internal multi card reader has been working fine for just under a year but just recently it has stopped recognising SD cards. When I insert a card it normally opens an explorer window but now it does nothing and does not show in file explorer.
Though if I click on .. file explorer/manage/disk management .. it then opens an explorer window for the card.
I have the setting in autoplay - memory card and removable drive set to open explorer.
I don't think the card reader is becoming faulty.

Mar 29, 2014I recently had to update a second computer's emails from another computer, both having Windows 8.1 and Office Professional--or sync them. So I exported all three .pst accounts in Outlook 2010 from computer 1 and imported all of them into computer 2 into Outlook 2010. Well, I didn't notice that there was a Duplicate setting (probably because I don't normally do this) and left the Import setting concerning duplicates at the default setting, so I got a lot of duplicates. Since then, I have received more emails into my accounts at computer 2. What is the best way to fix the duplicate issue?
Also, I noticed that many Sent folders were missing in one Imported account for some reason. Why would just some of the emails be Imported and not others? This is bad! If it wasn't for this, I could send an important email today. How can I make sure that all of the emails on computer 1 get Imported onto Computer 2? All too often, I find glitches in MS software.

All the files are tagged with date under Dec 26, 1899. I have used the same SD card to import in a windows 7 PC, all the dates are detected correctly. This issue happens only with CANON camcorder. It works fine with a NIKON camera - Dates recognized correctly.

We're currently doing this with ease with our iPads but I can't find anything for Windows 8. I'd be happy using the iPad to do this task but that would mean we would need both tablets since the other program we need is a Windows only program and the reason we bought the tablets in the first place.

Dec 26, 2012I have many photos on my Skydrive. I have signed in with my skydrive/hotmail/outlook (whatever you call it), on windows 8.
I've seen in options in Photos app, Skydrive is checked. But the Photos app doesn't show my photos on my Skydrive.
I would have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the photos app, but its 505 MB. So not feisible.
Should I convert my account to local account and then again convert the account to windows account. Will it solve the problem.
