I have several albums created in Photos. I have deleted these pictures from my camera and from my desktop. Is there a way to transfer the pictures to a thumb drive for transfer to another computer?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a thumb drive that I regularly plug in and out of the front of my tower using the same USB port. The drive has an assigned letter.
Plugging it in is no problem. It is detected fine and I have AutoPlay set to do nothing. I do not desire to use the AutoRun/AutoPlay on the desktop taskbar to unplug it. Is there anyway I can create a tile on the Start Screen to do so? I would imagine I have to pin some executable there?
I'm trying to install windows 8.1 on a sony vaio E series laptop which had windows 8 preloaded on it. I made a bootable usb thumb drive with Windows USB CD/DVD Download tool. When i try to boot through the pdrive it doesn't boot. I selected the option to boot from external device and selected the boot mode as UEFI. But it doesnot go into the windows 8.1 setup.
Then i selected the legacy mode and started the setup but it booted into the 8.1 setup. I formatted the C: Drive and selected that partition to install windows 8.1 on it but it showed mean an error showing that the partition is of GPT style and windows cannot install. I was doomed...
it happens because it is not booted in the UEFI mode and then i tried again but it doesnot go into the windows setup and shows a black screen with the notification that no operating system was found.
How do I transfer pictures in Skydrive to Photos, & if I Select all of them & select Download will they still also remain in Skydrive. And what dows 'Upload' mean & how do I use it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't understand this at all. Why did they take away this VERY important function? You can no longer drag and drop pictures to and from dropbox to a folder on your computer! This is so aggravating that I feel like throwing my computer in the trash. I cannot use skydrive. It won't link to it and it won't let me transfer files to another location on my computer.
There is a "pictures" folder but it refuses to let me transfer files from skydrive or dropbox! This is extremely aggravating when trying to backup four years of vacation pictures. It also disables the drag and drop function from ANYTHING else: CDs, USB drives, hard drives. I'm so angry now that I might consider buying a used computer just to transfer the files.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm planning on moving an SSD system drive from a laptop that is starting to experience difficulties to a desktop PC.
I'm retired now and my laptop never moves off my desk, so this has offered an opportunity to upgrade at little expense. My laptop is an HP Compaq Presario CQ61, dual core Pentium 4 T4300 2.1GHz with 2 x 120GB SSD drives installed.
The desktop I want to upgrade with the SSD drives is an HP DX6120 Pentium 4 HTT 3.2GHz unit that I've picked up very cheap.
I know a clean install of either Windows 7 or Windows 8 would be best practice, but is there a way I could just transfer the disk to the PC ?
As the title states, I'm switching back from Mac to PC. I have all of my precious photos (I love photography in particular) and music stored on an external hard drive (iomega), but it's been formatted for Mac OS. I read that you can't transfer from a Mac OS formatted drive to a PC.
Telling me to reformat the ext. hdd to fat32 isn't going to work, because first of all, that would delete the valuable data, and fat32 only allows the transfer of files less than 4GB.

I bought a program that will transfer data from my old computer (Vista) to my new computer (Windows 8) I plugged them both in. I had the screen on the Vista computer and it seemed to be working in transferring my stuff. I wanted until the lights on the new computer stopped blinking. Then I disconnected the Vista computer and hooked up all my wires from the Vista onto the Windows 8 computer. I can't find any of the data I supposedly transferred. Where would it be?
So now I think I better do the transfer thing again. So I take the old computer and plug it in (without monitor as I only have 1) No power. It's plugged in but the old computer won't go on. Now, I'm panicking... all my data, documents, spread sheets, genealogy are all in the old computer.
Now I do have backups... portable disks.... I see the info (or some of it) on the backup disks but how do I transfer it onto the Windows 8 computer? Theses were backedup from the old Vista computer.
How can I transfer all my favorites on win 7 internet to my new computer which has win 8. I actually transferred my files from the old computer to the new computer, however, the favorites bar in IE7 did not transfer to the IE8 on the new computer. I hope I won't have to individually set all the favorites on the new computer.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7 computer with Lotus 8.5 on it and I need to transfer Lotus 8.5 and all it's files and emails and the encryption key to the Windows 8 computer. I do not think that Windows 8 will recognize Lotus 8.5 so I had the idea to partition the Windows 8 computer and install Windows 7 on one of the partitions thus making it a dual boot computer, then install Lotus 8.5 to the Windows 7 partition. My problem is Windows 8 is already installed on the computer and Windows website warns not to install the older operating system second.
Windows website warns, "You must install the older operating system first, and then install the more recent operating system. If you don't (for example, if you install Windows Vista on a computer already running Windows 7), you can render your system inoperable. This can happen because earlier versions of Windows don't recognize the startup files used in more recent versions of Windows and can overwrite them." What should I do? I have found some information on installing Windows 7 as a second operating system on a Windows 8 computer thus creating a Dual Boot computer and giving you the best of both worlds and full app compatibility as some of your Windows 7 applications may not be supported in a Windows 8 environment. I've connected a MyBook 256GB external storage drive to my newly built computer. Half of my pictures are all rotated to the right. How did this happen? The pictures weren't taken in the way they appear right now. There has to be a better way of fixing this than to select the ones which are rotated and rotate them back to the original position.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought a laptop, specifically the Samsung QX410-J01. The Laptop came pre-installed with Windows 7, and I upgraded to Windows 8 on 10/26/2012. I bought the Windows 8 Pro product key, downloaded, and upgraded to Windows 8.
Just last week my laptops Motherboard failed and my computer would no longer start up. The HDD works just fine though so all my files are safe. I decided I wanted to build my own PC and I am simply waiting on my case to arrive.
My question is I want to use Windows 8 on my new PC. The problem I am facing is I do not know how I am going to install Windows on my new machine. I do not want to purchase a new install disk and license since I have already paid for the OS. I can only think of two options and I am not sure if either of them are right.
1. Plug in my laptops hard drive into the new desktop. Run Windows 8.1 on that and use the new Terabyte hard drive I bought as a second hard drive.
2. Somehow put Windows 8.1 on a flash drive and install it from the flash drive onto the new blank hard drive. Then use the product key that I had purchased to activate the OS onto the new hard drive!
I really do not want to have to purchase Windows again, but if I must I guess I will. I believe there has to be a way I doubt after being a loyal Microsoft customer, switching to Windows Phone recently, and buying an Xbox One, that Microsoft will just say "Too bad, buy it again".
I bought a new 2 tb hard drive and I am going to transfer the windows 8 partitions to the new drive when I get it. How can I do this ? My soon to be old drive is 500 gb . What about using hard drive cloning softwares ? Do imaging softwares work ?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been trying (without success) to transfer my e-mail folder files from my old computer (Dell Inspiron 530 using Vista) to my new computer (Sony Vaio using Windows 8). The transfer is from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail.
The recommended method on the old machine using a flash drive is as follows: File-Export-Messages-Microsoft Windows Mail-Select Folder (K:New Folder)-Next-Select Folders-Next.
At this point the folders should transfer to the flash drive. Unfortunately I keep getting and error message that says that "Export did complete successfully and Windows Mail was unable to export all messages" - (in fact only a few messages were transferred) The message then goes onto say that " your disk may not have enough space (it is a 32GB flash drive and has more than enough space!) or that some messages may be corrupted. Run disk clean-up or delete some files and try again". I have done this without improvement.
Another approach that was recommended was to find all of the e-mail files (.eml files) and copy them to the new computer via the flash drive. I can copy them to the flash drive without problem but am not sure how/where to import them into the C: drive of the new computer.

I got a Samsung 840 Pro Series SSD to replace my HDD, and used the Samsung Software that came with it to image my OS over to the SSD. It had an error at first, so I removed my antivirus program and ran it again, and it worked.
Everything works pretty much the same, except for noticeable differences in search and Internet webpage access.
If I search in Explorer, the searches are fast and prompt. But if I search with the regular search charm ( WIN+S ), searches are more than 7x slower than on the previous HDD. Also, webpages a quick to load on different computers (not the internet speed, in other words). But this computer had slow loads, and now the loading is even slower on the new SSD.
Things I've tried:
Multiple SFC scans - all say there is some files that could not be fixed All windows updates installed enabled Trimm, updated SSD firmware, ran Windows SSD optimization, optimized computer for SSD use Reset Internet Explorer Rebuilt index
I'm thinking of ditching this slower laptop in favor of something... anything nearby. Regretting either imaging to another drive, or using Samsung to do it.
So I understand that SKYDRIVE makes it easy to access your documents or pictures from different devices. Can it be used, in essence, as a external hard-drive <per se> to back up your pictures and important documents? I'm not quite understanding how it works. I think it works like a dropbox, but wondered about using it for BACK-UP rather than purchasing an external drive?

I've had intermittent problems since upgrading. At first i was getting what i consider a normal transfer rate of 8-10 mg/sec with each card. But several weeks ago I began experiencing rates of UNDER 1 mg/sec. That is KILObytes. It takes an hour to transfer my photographs, which is amazingly not ok.
I have a standard HP set-up, basic computer model, AMD Phenom 8450 Triple-Core 2.1 GHz
I've noticed that when i turn the indexing off, the transfer rate rebounds to normal. But then i have to turn it back on and reboot before either I or a program can locate a file.
Which is also amazingly not ok.
I've tried everything i can think of short of a clean reinstall. Which i REALLY would like to avoid. I've already done that twice since upgrading in November.
I am currently using windows7 in a 1 tb harddrive. I have another internal harddrive that im not using that has windows 8 on it but is only 150gb. How do i bring windows 8 to the 1tb harddrive i am using to replace windows 7?

I just want to transfer all the data from my old computer. This was pretty much all in the folder c:>Users>Myname, but when I try to transfer it all into the same folder on the new computer, obviously with 100gb there is not enough space.

I back everything up, but I have problems with Outlook. I do the same thing every time and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't... very frustrating!
