Apps / Software :: Windows 8.1 - Photos App Won't Display Any Pictures In Library?
Apr 27, 2014
The Photos app on my Windows 8.1 Pro PC won't show any pictures either in the Pictures Library or in OneDrive. It only can display folders but not pictures. In other Windows Store apps, another weird things happens. The photos show up but with no thumbnails. I tried a reformat and reinstall and the problem disappeared. That is until I signed in my Microsoft account. The problem comes back.
NOTE: I'm using Hotspot Shield because an error appears every time I install Windows updates or Windows Store apps. I use Hotspot Shield to bypass this error but even disabling it doesn't solve the problem.
I used the file explorer on desktop to move a bunch of pictures off an external backup drive and into the pictures folder within my pictures library. They now show up under the pictures library in desktop. But the Metro Pictures app insists that there are no pictures in my pictures library.
I have just bought a new sony vaio laptop and I am operating windows 8.1 I have downloaded all my holidays photos into a folder, however, I want to rearrange them in a different order. I am unable to do this as the photos are being arranged in date & time order....and I cannot seem to change this. I have even 'renamed' the photos in the numerical order that I want, but the computer returns them back to date & time order.
In the Pictures Library I can view some pictures, but for others I get only black boxes. All those pictures show perfectly in Photo Viewer and in Explorer.
How do I transfer pictures in Skydrive to Photos, & if I Select all of them & select Download will they still also remain in Skydrive. And what dows 'Upload' mean & how do I use it.
I have just had a factory reset & for some reason I can't get my photos in Pictures in File Explorer back into Photos. If I insert a flash drive with pictures on it & select 'Import' in Photos, it will import the photos but after supposedly downloading them, nothing! I have the 'Show photos & videos' box ticked off in Settings on the Charms panel.
I accidentally deleted the entire My Pictures folder from my library. How do I get it back? I was trying to delete an album and it deleted the entire library of pictures. My photos are still in the Windows 8 library just not the My folders library.
I can't get into my Documents folder. Every time I go to get into it, this little pop up message come up.
It tells me:
" "Documents.library-ms" is no longer working. This library can be safely deleted from your computer. Folders that have been included will not be affected."
I have also include an image of the message.
It also happens when I try to get into my Pictures folder. Just lays "Pictures.library-ms" etc etc etc comes up.
Okay I seem to have managed to corrupt my windows media player library. It won't add any media files at all or videos. I click on commands and nothing seems to happen, except I can open and close the program. How I can repair Windows Media Player. At one point I've discovered I can't rip music through Windows Media Player either.
First I thought it was slow. Then I got tired of waiting and figured out how to associate all my photos with the windows photo viewer from the desktop apps like I was used to with Windows 7
However, I would like to give it a fair chance to work. So, I am posting here.
When I click on the photo app, it shows some folders, sometimes it kicks me back to the desktop before I can click anytime. Other times, it may show a photo for a few seconds before kicking me back. Either way, this is not acceptable.
The app is not closing. It is still running because if I click the left corner, I see it and can access it again, if over for a second.
Is this experience common. I have had my windows 8 pc a week and I switched over to windows 8.1 about two days after I initially got it setup. I am a very experienced Windows 7 user. I am trying to be open minded about this new operating system.
We recently acquired a few Dell Latitude tablets for use at my work and I'm looking for an app which will easily and quickly allow me to take a picture, draw notes on top of it, and then save the file to be transferred to our server later. We need to document certain conditions at various locations while working in the field and this technique seems to be our best bet. We're currently doing this with ease with our iPads but I can't find anything for Windows 8. I'd be happy using the iPad to do this task but that would mean we would need both tablets since the other program we need is a Windows only program and the reason we bought the tablets in the first place.
I have an extensive video library which I am trying to put onto my computer. I am running windows 8. I have tried lots of programs and nearly all of them fail to produce good quality on the computer. All of them seem to break up and pixelate. I can remove some of the "VOB" files to the computer from the disc but these will not play even on VLC. There are some I want to convert to play on the Galaxy Tab2. I know windows 8 does not have a program to play DVD but I have put VLC in and that plays them.
The photo app is not displaying any library or file. Whenever I open any picture it opens in the PHOTO app but there is no next or previous feature. That's why I tried to include that folder (from which I want to see the photos) in my picture library. I included the folder into the picture library by right clicking on the folder and selecting the INCLUDE IN LIBRARY option and then PICTURES and the folder get included in it. I checked it manually. But the photo app is still not showing any single thing. its only written there IT'S LONELY IN HERE WITHOUT PHOTOS.
I'm having a problem with windows 8 photo app. All of my images in my local drives are not showing in the photo app. It Says " All your photo sources are hidden. To show some, change your settings."
I'm trying to import pictures from external device (in this case - android phone with PTP) and in the import dialog I've selected "import settings" and then I'm trying to change "Import images to" location, but when I click on Browse and select the same path I was using on windows 7 (on E: partition) I get error "You cannot import to this folder.
Choose another location" which, frankly, doesn't make much sense. I've tried permissions and so forth and I can easily browse and save picture there, I'm the owner and all that. Why Pictures Importer complains and doesn't allow me to use this location? I don't want to import to %profile%/Pictures because it's small-ish system drive :|
Use the Windows 8 standard Photo App. There is a slideshow inside, your photos will be displayed randomly. Can you choose a specific order to play the pictures in the slideshow? How?
Any way to get rid of Metro appz which come with Win8 directly working with Dism. Also it's possible to restore standard file associations so that pictures open with Image viewer without switching to Metro UI.

To fix associations, save this XML as "AppAssoc.xml":
I bought an Alienware M17x R4 with a pre installed windows 8 64 bit operating system then updated to windows 8.1 via windows update. My problem is that it won't run the Alienware OSD application which is supposed to replace the default windows icons when using the function keys. I tried researching and tried various methods including this one but to no avail. Link here...
Any software to either enlarge the tray desktop clock display or replace it? I know I can hover the mouse on Settings to get the large panel display. But I'd rather just be able to read it. Of course I'm looking for freeware.
Running Windows 8.1. Have admittedly modified it quite heavily but what I have screwed up.
Pretty much, any apps which have the purple wheel splash screen do not load (presumably crash). Normal windows settings work fine. Windows applications and Metro apps works with no hitches (I have none downloaded but default Music, Games all start with no issues).
I am new to Windows 8, and on the tile display, when I touch a tile, i.e. the weather tile, a black screen appears with Accuweather.com in the middle; this lasts about a second, then the tile window display reappears. I would expect that the Accuweather.com website would appear, but it never does. Other tiles act the same way, but some apps are executed when the tile for them is touched.
Currently in the process of locating my "library folders" to my storage drive rather than keeping them on my boot drive. In the process, I made a mistake of somehow syncing my music folder with my pictures folder. Now they open up to the same directory on my storage drive. At the same time, my pictures folder was renamed to Music.
1.) How do I disconnect my original "pictures folder" (which is now renamed to music and is essentially the same folder as my music folder).
My computer is a bit like the car; turn either of them on, and expect it to do its 'thing' but when it doesn't.... stuck!
My windows 8 library is not working...
Anyway, I've researched how to delete and then reinstall/program. What I cannot understand is why this library facility has so many awful reviews on the forum, who are slatting this facility and how it eventually clogs up memory with duplicated files.
there are many attempting to disable or totally eradicate it from the computer There is a "registry hack" website for windows 7, which disables the library.
I've used the method 2 from the sevenforums tutorial to include a network folder in the Picture Library. In Windows 7 it works with thumbnails but not in Windows 8.
I am new to windows 8 and started copying my photos to my new laptop. I placed them into the Pictures Folder but noticed it wasn't using any space in the D drive. So somehow (not really sure what I did) I've ended up moving my photos to the D Drive but in the process my Pictures Folder has changed to D:
Windows 8 problems. How to easily and quickly download selected photos from my camera. When I tried it was taking forever as the system seemed to be going through opening every single photo on my camera and I gave up waiting. I just want to be able to download the latest ones not all of the ones I have on my camera.
