I bought an Alienware M17x R4 with a pre installed windows 8 64 bit operating system then updated to windows 8.1 via windows update. My problem is that it won't run the Alienware OSD application which is supposed to replace the default windows icons when using the function keys. View 1 RepliesSo I upgraded to Windows 8 today and finally finished all the installations only to find that using a 1920x1080 resolution means that the display is too big for my screen (a 32" Samsung full HD TV). The screen is cropped by about a half a CM all the way around. I had to revert to a 1776x1000 resolution for the display to fit properly on the screen but would much rather use the highest possible setting but I cannot seem to fix the problem.
I am running 64-bit and have updated all display drivers and completed windows updates. My GPU is an ATI Radeon HD 5800 series.
I can't upgrade to 8.1 as it is not in the store.
I occasionally get a banner message telling me I can upgrade to 8.1 and I should go to the store, but there is no update
I know how to select the second screen options, however, my Surface Pro and our Samsung Laptop both running Windows 8 cannot detect a second monitor/screen. We are connecting via the HDMI port, but it will not display no matter what option we choose nor whether we run it from the desktop or apps. This is what we use for work to display presentations for clients.

Windows 8.1 Pro
1 tb sata
256 GB ssd
16gb ram
Intel integrated graphics
NVIDIA gforce card
Ubuntu 14.04
While I was testing out the new racing game Assetto Corsa on my computer, I had not noticed that even though my battery was plugged in, it wasn't charging. Then my computer switched off. I reconnected the adapter but then the blue led on the charger went off.
When I take out the adapter, it glows blue, indicating that the charger is ready to charge.
When I plug it in to my laptop, it stops illuminating.
For last couple days I've been going through a minor computer issue. I wasn't doing anything special, I just turned the computer off. And the next day the problem occured; After bios and Windows 8 loading screen ( the little dots going round, just below the windows 8 icon ) my screen goes black and there's no signal to the display. I've already tried formatting my hdd and installing windows 8, also tried doing Reset option, from the Windows 8 troubleshot system. I can't access my Safe Mode, because it tells that Windows can't finish the installation in safe mode ( After installing the new system I format all the data and it goes just fine until the windows icon and "Preparin your devices" sign. It goes 100% and gets black again.

When I try to duplicate or extend, the hub says 'Connecting to PC...' but then nothing happens. Something is working as my mouse and keyboard are plugged into the hub and they work. I just cant get the display. I think all my drivers are up to date.
Ok I have a Alienware M17XR2 laptop. I just installed windows 8.1 from a formatted start. Got most of the drivers functioning. I have an unknown device which I will address in another thread. Anyway my keyboard lags sometimes while I am typing fast. Never did that on my Windows 7. I'm running 64 bit as well.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe Photos app on my Windows 8.1 Pro PC won't show any pictures either in the Pictures Library or in OneDrive. It only can display folders but not pictures. In other Windows Store apps, another weird things happens. The photos show up but with no thumbnails. I tried a reformat and reinstall and the problem disappeared. That is until I signed in my Microsoft account. The problem comes back.
NOTE: I'm using Hotspot Shield because an error appears every time I install Windows updates or Windows Store apps. I use Hotspot Shield to bypass this error but even disabling it doesn't solve the problem.
I have got alienware m14xR2 with windows 8 x64. The task manager is showing 100% disk usage which is mainly used by "System" process.

I was attempting to hook the computer up to my tv through hdmi (the pc has no VGA input) and when I went through the normal paces to put the display on my tv (display desktop only on 2), the signal did not transfer and there is no display on either my tv or pc! how to revert the display back to my pc monitor without being able to see anything? View 5 Replies View RelatedI just recently purchased the ASUS ROG G750JM-DS71. I noticed that I can't seem to the get the display to be in full brightness. For example when booting it up, the brightness seems much higher, and after a few seconds at the desktop the screen would suddenly get darker. The brightness is indeed all the way up, and my laptop is plugged in. BTW, it actually looks more orange instead dimmer, like the there is much less blue emitted light. how I can get rid of this setting or what could be causing this? The display does indeed change while at the desktop, so I know this isn't the highest brightness.

This is what the first few rows of icons should look like, but it's like everything under the word "Start" was moved down and partially off the screen. I don't know how to get it back, or which process to attempt restarting (is the Start screen handled by the explorer.exe process?). Also, the right - click menu (which is usually on the bottom) is completely hidden, so I can't use any of that functionality.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust received this for Christmas and turned it on. It will show the Alienware logo and F8/F12 prompts. After that the screen goes blank. Start it up again, goes thru logo screen and then a blue screen pops up saying that your pc couldn't start. It comes up with different options like safe modes and disabling options. Choosing any of these options just shuts down the pc. Its an X51 running or attempting to run windows 8.

I've managed to make the display horizontally smaller, but I can't figure out how to change the center to the right side. This is annoying because I have to re-size every window every time I open it, and then I have to constantly scroll back and forth on web pages. Pretty much, any apps which have the purple wheel splash screen do not load (presumably crash). Normal windows settings work fine. Windows applications and Metro apps works with no hitches (I have none downloaded but default Music, Games all start with no issues).
I've had windows 8 for a bit, but since I've installed the OS not a single one of my windows apps will work. I've tried a lot of options and none fix it. I will open up a app ( windows store app or PC settings for example) and it will open and display the icon and blown up screen then immediately minimizes and will not allow me to maximize it. I'm so tired of it! I can't download any new apps or update my old ones let alone use any of them. I ran a basic trouble shoot through Microsoft and it came up at one point saying I need a Microsoft account. which is crazy because I've put in my CD key like 50 times and registered it when I put the OS on this computer . Windows 8.1
