View 9 RepliesI own a Dell XPS 15(L502X) and I just upgraded to Windows 8 and I found out my Dell audio has been missing. Luckily I was able to download it back. But this time I found out that the Sound Blaster X-Fi is missing. Others are just fine ( I mean the Dell audio by Realtek).
View 3 Replies View RelatedBefore installing my new Sound Blaster ZxR I had to temporarily use the Onboard Sound of my Asus Rampage IV Black Edition because of a SLI Water cooling component blocking the necessary PCI Port of the former Sound Card ( a Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty Professional ).
Because of the cracking ( grounding loop? ) I receive during the startup when using 3.5mm jacks ( or 1/4" with the ZxR ) I stopped using them whenever possible and instead started using the Toslink connection on both the Recon3D AND the RIVBE as it electrically disconnects the PC from the Sound System.
Now here comes the Problem: Using the new Sound Blaster ZxR and having it connected via Toslink to my Sound System I'm not able to control the Volume using.. Multimedia Keys on my KeyboardVolume Mixer from the TaskbarEven Muting isn't possible
The only way to change the Volume level from now on has been by doing one of the following four.. Change the Volume level by Hand in the corresponding App itself, not the overall System Volume - Kind of sucksUsing the Hardware Dial on my Speaker System - Hard to reachSwitch from Toslink to Jacked Cables - Startup cracking

Switching the default Playback Device from Speakers to Digital Audio (S/PDIF) - Will cause me to loose the ability to run Encoders like Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect and it's DTS Neo:PC Music Mode feature which, in my opinion, really improves my listening experience as it then uses all my Satellites, not just the front ones.
I'm not sure how my settings were while still using the Recon3D that allowed me to go Toslink while still being able to change the System Volume simply by using the Multimedia Keys of the Keyboard.
I can't upgrade to 8.1 as it is not in the store.
I occasionally get a banner message telling me I can upgrade to 8.1 and I should go to the store, but there is no update
Just received this for Christmas and turned it on. It will show the Alienware logo and F8/F12 prompts. After that the screen goes blank. Start it up again, goes thru logo screen and then a blue screen pops up saying that your pc couldn't start. It comes up with different options like safe modes and disabling options. Choosing any of these options just shuts down the pc. Its an X51 running or attempting to run windows 8.

I have tried plugging it in the front jack and the back jack (I have a desktop PC) and I have tried to set it up again via "Set up a Microphone". In Sound>Recording my microphone icon has an empty bar next to it. Under the "Levels" tab in "Microphone Properties" I have "Microphone" set to 100 and "Microphone Boost" set to +10 dB. I am running a Windows 8 PC. This is the empty bar that I was talking about next to my Microphone's icon:

I have tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it. I have performed a clean boot. I have even tried system restore. Nothing wants to work. I have tried updates for drivers through Dell Support, but Dell doesn't detect Windows 8.1.

Have checked settings through speaker volume icon lower task bar, Dell Audio control icon, and checked for audio enabled or not through device manager/soundvideogamecontrollers/Realtek high def sound etc. All looks perfect.
This loss of sound MAY have happened after running SUPERAntiSpyware that my ex-computer "expert" installed and instructed me to run regularly. I lost sound also when he last serviced my computer and installed SUPERantispyware (among other unknown things he did), but he somehow restored the sound through changing a power management option I think. I just tried that again to no luck.
But what it means when someone says "install new drivers" or "reinstall drivers" - my Windows 8 came preloaded and upgrade to 8.1 has failed twice so I gave up - nothing to do with this problem arising though.
We were sent some Surface Pro 2 Tablets at work. They were already setup with the programs we needed, however they were not behaving correctly. Kept getting network errors for the domain, as everything else on the network was working but that.
Apparently at least unjoins our domain, restarts, and now I cannot login for anything in this world. I cannot get any other user accounts to show up but the last person who logged in, who was an administrator on tablet under our domain, and the password simply does not work. I have tried restarting in safe mode with and without network and that doesn't work because it won't recognize the password for the user. So I thought system restore would work but apparently I need to login to the account to do that as well.
Also tried rebooting to the command prompt. I apparently need to login for that as well. I have tried rebooting into a password recovery/reset disc but I cannot get it to boot to the cd, or at least if it is, it's certainly not reading the disc (which I knows works for XP & 7). I cannot do a reset password usb because alas, I need to be able to login to be able to create one of those. I've looked at several online things but most of them start with "you need to be logged in".
I have a Dell Latitude D630 and Windows 8. The generic Windows sound driver made the sound for the laptop run, but not with the docking station. I installed the Sigmatel drivers for Windows Vista 32bit. They also worked for me on Windows 7. First, they didn't wanna install, but then I made a BIOS update from Revision A03 to A18 and it solved the problem. Now again I have sound for the laptop, but when connected to the docking station the following happens:
When I set the normal speakers as output: Sound starts to play through the speakers connected to the docking station, but aborts quickly (for example the Windows sound when changing the volume).
When I set the SPDIF out as output: No sound at all!
The Sigmatel website obviously doesn't provide drivers since it's not existant anymore. The audio business was sold to IDT, but the IDT Website sucks: Detailed descriptions of all sound cards, but no drivers at all!
There was an IDT modded drivers section on laptopvideo2go.com before, but unfortunately the project is dead. I can't even find the uploaded files anymore. Anyway, one doesn't know if it works for Win 8 at all.

I have a clean Windows 8 install with latest updates. I plugged the computer into LAN via standard ethernet cable and everything looked alright, however, it seems that there is some problem with downloading files (be it through browser or a different service, such as win update). Usually the download starts normally, downloading about 5-7 megabytes, but then the download freezes, as if the internet connection had disconnected. Thing is, it hadn't, I can still browse websites and ping hosts. The downloading sometimes randomly resumes for another 700 kilobytes to 2 megabytes, though generally not more. Other computers not running windows 8 in the LAN do not have this issue, which leads me to believe it's not connected to router nor ISP.
Sometimes, it also fails to load a webpage, hanging untill a manual refresh is performed or untill I replug the ethernet cable.

My laptop has been giving me an issue for several weeks where it will not connect to the internet. When I attempt to do ipconfig commands it tells me "No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection 13 while it has its media disconnected." As well as Local Area Connection 12, Bluetooth Network Connection, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi.

I just bought an Aloenware 14 with the following specs:
Windows 8.1 Pro
1 tb sata
256 GB ssd
16gb ram
Intel integrated graphics
NVIDIA gforce card
Ubuntu 14.04
While I was testing out the new racing game Assetto Corsa on my computer, I had not noticed that even though my battery was plugged in, it wasn't charging. Then my computer switched off. I reconnected the adapter but then the blue led on the charger went off.
When I take out the adapter, it glows blue, indicating that the charger is ready to charge.
When I plug it in to my laptop, it stops illuminating.
My wifi only works correctly at home. When at home, I have no problem and a good, solid internet connection. When I am anywhere else (friend's house, school, work, even my phone personal hotspot), I can connect to the internet with no problem, and it even shows as "internet" on the wifi screen so I know it is getting it. However, when I attempt to load a webpage it shows as if there is no internet. I have tried Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. I have done the ipconfig renew and release, when I do release it says "media disconnected". I have also tried forgetting the network and reconnecting.
Unfortunately I don't have access to the internet in these locations to troubleshoot.
I bought an Alienware M17x R4 with a pre installed windows 8 64 bit operating system then updated to windows 8.1 via windows update. My problem is that it won't run the Alienware OSD application which is supposed to replace the default windows icons when using the function keys. I tried researching and tried various methods including this one but to no avail. Link here...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the laptop as stated above, i have had it a week and the user before me had decided to put on 7 instead of 8. i completely wiped and restored to windows 8.1, installed all sammy drivers and ensured it is all up to date.
the laptop had huge instability issues, the hdd was on its way out as mbr was damaged and the heads were ticking badly. then i found the ram was not secured in the sockets properly too. so i fixed it all!
Anyways back to the problem. i have the realtek hd audio drivers installed from sammy, reinstalled the ones from realtek themselves and still nothing.
Main issue, mic and speakers built in work and are fully detected. but the microphone port and headphone port are not detected, no matter what i plug into them.
I have Latitude 10 tablet that now has Enterprise edition of Windows 8 installed and this has removed the Dell Picks section in the Microsoft app store. Is there any way to get this back? I have an app installed on another device that is Dell exclusive and I cannot find any way to get it installed on the Latitude 10 even though it is a Dell device.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt's definitely not a hardware problem as one minute it's all working, then it suddenly stops. I've tried everything. My sound card drivers are all up to date, it also happens at the same time as youtube videos stop playing on google chrome (despite them loading), windows media player is unable to play and an error occured on youtube on firefox.
However after a few hours it finally lets me on the "configure speakers" setting and I click test and it begins to play sounds again, from then on it plays sound and loads videos.
Edit: When I click "test" it tells me "The device is being used by another application. Please close any devices that are playing audio to this device and then try again."

On the Volume Mixer, (FireFox is no muted and its turned up) When I play a video, It remains blank, There is no movement of sound in the Volume Mixer. (Adobe Flash player is not muted either)

Latest version of Windows 8 This will take a while A few months ago Windows 8 quit producing sound through my speakers - overnight. I've tried a number of things I'll list here. Volume Control - red 'x' in bottom right corner. AMD HDMI OUTPUT and HEADPHONES are checked. Troubleshooting Speakers/headphones produces "doesn't appear to be plugged in' - they are. See next sentence. Potential issues that were checked. Check audio device issue not present one or more audio services isn't running issue not present audio device is disabled issue not present I can plug the speakers into a Vista PC and hear music so I know(?) the speakers and cable are plugged in and OK. Device Manager>Sound,Video and Game Controls>AMD High Definition Audio Device = device is working properly. Using most recent driver - Rollback is disabled. I have two sets of audio inputs on the back of my PC. Tried them both (have always used the top ones). Someone suggested checking my sound card - don't know how to do that. One last thing . . . I found an MS article telling me to disable/enable the AMD. Did that but as soon as I disabled it, it disappeared.
View 6 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I bought a pair of Samson Studio GT studio monitors. which connect to my computer via USB. However, I'm only getting sound out of one monitor/speaker, that would be the right side with the power cable. I've checked the speaker wires and made sure they were hooked up correctly for polarity. There are no drivers for these speakers on SamsonTech.com. Windows sees everything correctly, as these speakers have a built in audio interface for audio production, which is what I do.
This is definitely not an issue with the speakers, because I managed to hook up my computer to the speakers'/monitors' aux RCA inputs and got sound out of BOTH speakers! What is most interesting is that headphone output from from the SPEAKERS/MONITORS functions the same in both cases. (One case with audio out the right speaker, the other case with audio out of both). However, these speakers (I'm just going to call them that from now on) have two headphone outputs. When hooked up via USB, and when listening on headphones, the phone output to the right only outputs right channel audio, and the left only outputs left channel audio. But when hooked up via the RCA inputs, both headphone outs put out as stereo.
I suspect there is something within my Windows 8 installation that's screwy. I can use these via the RCA inputs coming from my PC's sound card, but I would like to get this working via USB, as mentioned earlier, these speakers have an built in audio interface that I want to use.
