"Considering that both Firefox and IE are affected, and then you find that Chrome doesn't work either, the problem is with the operating system or the sound drivers.
I was watching videos on my PC, using FireFox, in the evening I went and had a shower, I got back and without any apparent reason, FireFox stopped producing sound.
I installed Chrome after checking all the basics, and Chrome does have sound, I can watch videos on Chrome with sound.
I have tried Youtube, MSN, FilmOn, Facebook (Games and Videos), Game sites, SoundCloud, and there is no sound. I opend IE, and tried the same, and got no sound. There is sound on my PC, if I open a MP3 in WMP it Plays, Windows system sounds play, Yahoo sounds play, Skype sounds play, I can hear them loud and clear. TheSims 4 plays sound.
I have done the following: Updated Flash, VLC, Java, Shockwaves, QuickTime.
Updated FireFox Updated FireFox Pluggins, Followed all steps here: [URL] ....
Updated RelTek, Uninstalled FireFox, Swiched Default browser from IE to FireFox and Chrome and back again, I have rebooted my PC 50 times, Deleted Internet cache, cookies, history, etc.
I have been to ControlPanel/InternetOptions/Advanced and made sure that "Allow browsers to play sounds" Is checked, I have updated my Graphics Card, and my Sound card.
On the Volume Mixer, (FireFox is no muted and its turned up) When I play a video, It remains blank, There is no movement of sound in the Volume Mixer. (Adobe Flash player is not muted either)
I am using a Razer Kraken 7.1 HeadSet, I have updated its drivers also.
I am using WINDOWS 8 Nvidia Geforce GTX 650 Intel i7 4th Gen 8GB RAM ...
I've updated my laptop's OS to Windows 8 64-bit a couple of days ago and I quickly noticed that there was a rather annoying issue with performance. It lags every 5-10 seconds, but this seems to happen only when I open Firefox or any other Web Browser and this slows down the whole computer unless I restart it again. My Laptop used to run Windows 7 very well. I also updated to Windows 8.1 yesterday but the problem is still unsolved. By the way I have 4GB of RAM but the system recognizes only 2.
I am not able to double click and install chrome/firefox the only way I can install is by right clicking and selecting run as administrator then the browser starts with a message that profile not found.
So I've heard these two are the best browsers around, although I've seen firefox and its good it takes up more RAM than Chrome by about 30MB, should I switch or stay?
I just got a Dell with Win 8 and touchscreen. It was fine for a couple days. A half hour ago when I started it again I am unable to send email using yahoo mail in either of my browsers. I can check email fine and if I click the email in the inbox I can read it fine. When I click the onscreen right or left arrow to go to next or previous email nothing happens. When I click compose I go to the draft screen and all is well until I click Send. Nothing happens. I can send fine through my hotmail account. I can't get it to work clicking on any of the other folders in yahoo mail either.
So, is this a temporary issue with yahoo or something I need to figure out about Win 8? I've been in Mac land for the last 3 years or so. Also, the touchpad is way too sensitive. I turned palm rejection to the highest setting but it still jumps all over and does things I don't want it to do.
I have this little problem and I'm not 100% sure that it is windows 8 related but honestly I think it is..
I'm running windows 8 RTM 64bit and it seems that I can't get java work properly with firefox or chrome.. With IE it works perfectly. We are talking about java 7 update 7 and yes it is 32bit java, not 64bit. With every page where java is needed it says 'Install java' etc.
I got a HP Envy m6 Sleekbook laptop about three months ago. I installed Firefox and Chrome right away, although I used Firefox almost exclusively.
After about a month, Firefox just stopped working. I would click the icon, and it would light up (and the blue circle would appear over the cursor) as if it was about to open, but after a few seconds it stopped loading and the icon went back to normal, as if I had never clicked it. It just kind of... gave up. I restarted the computer and tried opening it from a different shortcut, and then directly from the file, but the problem persisted.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing Firefox twice, but it didn't solve the issue. Finally, I abandoned Firefox and switched to using Chrome.
Now, after using Chrome without a hitch for almost two months, Chrome has spontaneously started exactly the same behavior- BUT now I can open Firefox.
I'd really like to keep using Chrome, since I finally had it set up the way I like (I have quite a few bookmarks and quirky little preferences).
My Norton trial that came preloaded in my HP laptop was about to expire so I removed it using the Symantec Norton tool remover.
Now I only have IE 11. The Firefox and Chrome browsers won't connect to the internet. I tried system restore a couple of times but that's not working either.
How to get my browsers back. I ran the adware removal tool, AVG scan and malwarebytes. Everything is clean.
On my office network none of the computers connected to it have problems surfing the web, except my own. Pages fail to load 75% of the time, I use Google Chrome and Firefox but they both have the same problem. I've scanned my pc for malware and viruses using Malwarebytes and Bitdefender (separately of course) and they've come back clear. I've reset the tcp ip stack (a pain in Windows 8) taking full control of netsh via the regedit key (running it as admin), then wiping the wifi profile, following with a dns flush and finalizing with restarting the computer. Once restarted I can navigate the internet problem free for a few pages and then I go back to having issues. I can't reinstall Windows 8 because I don't have a disc or a partition (upgraded from Win7 to 8 pro online, which I admit was a huge mistake).
I am running on : Windows 8.1 Pro AMD Athlon 2 P320 Dual Core Processor 2.10Ghz 8.00GB RAM, 64 bit OS, x64 processor.
After I installed VMware-player and VirtualBox, I started to get this error "The connection Was Reset" (got that on firefox, different name on Chrome since it has an error code, but leads to the same error).
Weird thing is that I can still explore some of the website that are open, for instance I leave a Facebook tab or Twitter tab, or any other site (not necessarily a social network). But if try to open a "new" site, which is not explored yet, then I get the error.
Things I tried so far: 1) delete cache, doesn't work at all. 2) Change the MTU Value, that was quite interesting, since I do get an error when i try to ping with my current value, but when i find a value that apparently should work, after I set that value as my MTU, I get the error with that value, so i go down a few numbers until i get a working value, set the MTU and error again. and so on. 3) Made a repair of my windows 8 install, preserving my personal files, but didn't work. 4) Only thing that seems to work is restart my pc.
I didn't have time yet to try to reinstall my antivirus (Avast) .
I have looked all over the internet and cannot find a solution to this, cleared cache/history/etc, re-installed chrome (twice) and still the sound does not work and it's getting kind of annoying. It works fine in IE but not Chrome,
I have the laptop as stated above, i have had it a week and the user before me had decided to put on 7 instead of 8. i completely wiped and restored to windows 8.1, installed all sammy drivers and ensured it is all up to date.
the laptop had huge instability issues, the hdd was on its way out as mbr was damaged and the heads were ticking badly. then i found the ram was not secured in the sockets properly too. so i fixed it all!
Anyways back to the problem. i have the realtek hd audio drivers installed from sammy, reinstalled the ones from realtek themselves and still nothing.
Main issue, mic and speakers built in work and are fully detected. but the microphone port and headphone port are not detected, no matter what i plug into them.
I recently bought a new ASUS K55N-DS81 laptop and its been working fine since I got it but today (April 21st, 2013) while browsing in firefox the computer froze completely, it was restarted by pressing the button and afterwards only the ASUS splash page would load with the circle loading animation, it would never progress anywhere just constantly spin. It turned on once and asked me to go back to a previous restore point, during which it froze, now it powered on once again and it updated some things while booting, I got the event log from the event viewer so what caused this behavior in the computer.
My incoming connections is set to "block all connections to apps that are not on the list of allowed apps" why isn't there an entry for Mozilla Firefox on that list, it isn't blocked.
Also, I installed a VST plugin (software music synthesizer) and the first thing it did was check for updates (it phoned home), why wasn't that automatically blocked until I explicitly added a firewall exception? I don't get it.
I have windows 8.1 ... Whenever i start my computer, firefox starts automatically. When I check under the startup tab of my task manager, i find that firefox is nested under rainmeter.exe along with bunch of other processes. How do I disable it?
I got a new Samsung laptop because my other laptop was slow and old. However, there is something strange in this laptop the images on firefox don't appear all the time.
I followed their guide: Cleared cache and cookies, it worked for few hours then images are not loading.
- I deleted my ESET smart security: It didn't do anything. - I installed Panda free antivitus and still the same problem. So it's not from the antivirus program I'm using.
I checked my other laptop and images are showing without any problem, so it can't be from my connection.
What else can I do? I think I exhausted my laptop uninstall and Install a lot of programs and it's still new.
I use 20 sites every day and use bokkmark bar of firefox for easey access but i can not put all of my sites in bookmark bar. Is it possible to add 2 bookmark bar?
1) Firefox always hangs (Not Responding) when I try to close it.
2) Sometimes I am unable to kill the process from Task Manager or Process Explorer (access denied).
3) Sometimes it leaves behind a zombie process that can't be killed. I cannot launch a new Firefox process (it launches but stays hidden). The only solution is to reboot my computer.
4) If I leave Firefox open, after a while it becomes nonresponsive. I usually need to reboot the computer for reason 3 above.
I have seen similar behavior from Internet Explorer and iTunes, but not all the time. I am focusing on Firefox now because the problem is very repeatable.
I have scoured the internet looking for a solution but have come up empty. The Mozilla web site suggests I disable all add-ons, which I have done. This does not fix the problem, so it is something else. I have Norton Antivirus and have scanned my system for problems but it is clean (tried Malwarebytes too, but looks good). I have tried disabling my antivirus software (everything but the firewall) and still get the same problem. I have methodically gone through and made sure all of my drivers are up to date.
I have the high contrast option turned on for only one reason. The differences in colors of the active vs non-active window that is highlighted in the taskbar was too subtle for me and I often clicked on non-active windows.
Sadly this however resulted in IE / Firefox and Office (Excel & Word so far) be almost unusable. Excel has basically no colors at all no matter what is selected for either text or backgrounds. Office documents are either black or white, no colors come through at all. IE and Firefox are almost unusable.
Only Chrome ignores the high contrast option and uses its own styleset.
My browser of choice is Firefox but I have the same problems in Chrome also. First a little background. I'm running Windows 8.1 for the last month and up until 1 week ago I had Roadrunner light with download speeds around 9 to 10 Mbps. Last week I upgraded to higher speed Roadrunner and am now getting download speeds of around 35 Mbps consistently.
Now my problem: Several forum pages that I frequent USED to load instantly and when clicking on a post would load instantly. Now certain pages may take up to 45 seconds to 1 minute or sometimes not at all. This happens most of the time but not all the time. This happens whether I'm using Firefox, Chrome or IE. I have cleared cookies, history, search, cache in an attempt to solve this problem.
Firefox 26.0 64 bit windows installer link? The portable runs fine but it's too much hassle to set as default. Any clean link to FF installer? (Not Pale Moon or Waterfox but the Firefox 26.0 x64)
All I can find is the 26.0 Portable link on Softpedia.
I'm running Windows 8.1 Update 2 and I'm having a issue where Adobe Flash crashes randomly and get a script hang error. I have uninstalled Adobe flash and reinstalled and wiped cache in firefox and still haven't resolved the issue.
