Ok I have a Alienware M17XR2 laptop. I just installed windows 8.1 from a formatted start. Got most of the drivers functioning. I have an unknown device which I will address in another thread. Anyway my keyboard lags sometimes while I am typing fast. Never did that on my Windows 7. I'm running 64 bit as well.

I changed my new HP laptop to windows 8 yesterday. love the OS except when i try to type. the cursor moves all over the place, stalls and sometimes even disappear. this didnt happen with windows 7 at all. i know there is a touchpad issue. i have disabled the touchpad (i use a wireless use) and it came back on. i then removed the driver for the touchpad and it still works. i have resorted to downloading a program that "locks" the touchpad when the keyboard is used and none of these have worked. four times while writing this i have had keyboard issues.
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I instal win 8 pro on my alienware M17 R3, not clean instal just update since i buy the serial online from Microsoft store when installing win i keep all my setting and file and its look everything running great. after a few hours my laptop start to freeze especially after booting ( going to win 8 login ) and sometime freeze to when i play some game or doing my work ( adobe work ) when i check my system on device manager its show my graphic card ( amd radeon hd 6900M Series ) need to update driver or reinstall again, yes i do the work i download and reinstall the driver from much source and some from the AMD site too,, but the freeze and error still happens even the drivers already update on device manager

I just bought an Aloenware 14 with the following specs:

1 tb sata
256 GB ssd
16gb ram
Intel integrated graphics
NVIDIA gforce card
Ubuntu 14.04
While I was testing out the new racing game Assetto Corsa on my computer, I had not noticed that even though my battery was plugged in, it wasn't charging. Then my computer switched off. I reconnected the adapter but then the blue led on the charger went off.
When I take out the adapter, it glows blue, indicating that the charger is ready to charge.
When I plug it in to my laptop, it stops illuminating.
I bought an Alienware M17x R4 with a pre installed windows 8 64 bit operating system then updated to windows 8.1 via windows update. My problem is that it won't run the Alienware OSD application which is supposed to replace the default windows icons when using the function keys. I tried researching and tried various methods including this one but to no avail. Link here...

In windows 8, the XP partition is seen as D:
If I boot to XP, XP sees itself as I:
it sees the windows 8 partition as C: and that is what I want, is C: being win 8 and XP being D:
Is there anyway to change the lettering on the XP partition?
I've recently made a Windows 8 and a Windows 8.1 installation disc from the ISO images on MSDN. Each image includes Core/Core VL and Pro/Pro VL, 32 and 64 bit editions of each. I have the installation keys for all of these installations, but I don't want to have to type an installation key every time I go to use this disc. I've tried adding an installation key using WinReducer8 (which I do not recommend), but it only adds one key, which means I cannot choose which edition I want to install.
When I made my AIO Windows 7 ISO, I had no issues, as Windows 7 doesn't force you to add an installation or product key; you select your desired edition and you're good to go. Attached Image 1 shows what I'm referring to.
Now, however, Windows 8 has to choose your edition by the product key you enter (well played, Microsoft), and I want to find a way around this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust received this for Christmas and turned it on. It will show the Alienware logo and F8/F12 prompts. After that the screen goes blank. Start it up again, goes thru logo screen and then a blue screen pops up saying that your pc couldn't start. It comes up with different options like safe modes and disabling options. Choosing any of these options just shuts down the pc. Its an X51 running or attempting to run windows 8.

But, because Windows 8 must have a safe mode set up, I have to do other things first. Now that I've got to using the command prompt to add the safe mode, the P key is constantly being pressed, making it nearly impossible to type anything accurately. It would take countless hours to type things right or cause more problems if I go on with it.
I cannot log into any accounts.
I will soon be purchasing an Alienware X51, but I am choosing to separately buy a Crucial SSD to install the OS on. I can find videos on YouTube detailing how to physically install the SSD, but exactly how to install the OS on the Crucial SSD upon the initial booting of the computer (without having to first install it on the HDD.)

I listed all the volumes using DiskPart utility and it showed me some hidden ones, as expected. What I want to do now is to explore the hidden volumes' contents, and retrieve the drivers from there if possible. But the problem is, I don't know how to list the contents of those volumes. I could've used DIR command if they were accessible through the letters, but unfortunately they don't have any letters associated with them. how I can list the contents of the hidden volumes.

But now I have the problem that in the settings-app and in the righten menu (e.g. the search-function) every text is just a white (or sometimes black) box. I went o Disk Management to reassign the drive letter but letters J, K, L, and M are not available. There are ones before and after those letters that are available but I need those letters.

For one domain admin user only, when he logs in he sees normal mapped drives. The longer he's working, he starts seeing more and more letters mapped to the same particular network share. So after a few hours he'll have 12 drive letters all mapped to the same network share.
Doesn't matter what workstation. Doesn't seem to be a particular application.
When entering letters and numbers, that I believe are used to prevent Robo emails, do I have to use upper and lower case letters? I have a heck of a time getting those to take, and have to repeat them several times.

I have a Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad and a Standard PS/2 Keyboard, & I have a Windows 8.1 HP Laptop. I also had a similar problem like this before, but instead of not being able to move my cursor, I was unable to click. However, I am able to click while typing, but cannot move the cursor. For long time now I have been using the below program for my web designing and it has worked perfectly up to and including Windows 7. I just got a Windows 8 laptop and now the program crashes or hangs whenever I start to type I get maybe 1 or 2 characters out and then it hangs.
I saw a similar post in the Win 7 forum but there was no final answer or solution and it was posted quite some time ago. The only response to the user was to check the Event Viewer. So I tried that and the below is what I got back but unsure what to do with this info.
I am using a now no longer supported version of this program I even tried mailing them and they refuse to do any sort of update. So the software people won't do anything to try and resolve this issue so that is why I am hoping I can fix the issue. And the newer version stinks so refuse to use the newer version.

Whenever there is a text box a black bar appears and I can only remove it by pressing Del or Ins. remove it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedToday, my windows 8 desktop acted up for no reason. When I tried to install a program/software, it prompted for an Admin. Password. However, in the dialog box, there was no text box for typing in the Administrator password and OK button was grey out.
Tried to open an elevated command prompt box using "Run as administrator", no luck. Selection was grey out too. I could not enable hidden administrator account via "net user administrator /active:yes" from elevator command prompt. I also could not install any software because the Administrator password dialog box contains no text box to enter Admin password and OK button grey out. I could only clicked the Cancel button.
I am being driven mad by the clicking sound every time I do a keystroke on my wireless keyboard, how do I turn it off? Have disabled windows sounds so none play. I have gone into typing in PC settings and the turn sounds off is not there.

My camper van was broken into and the OEM support disks are gone as well. Used the standard MS back up procedure on an external usb disk drive. The latter is back home, which I could FedEx to where I'm staying for the winter.
